Flipping Out – “A House Divided”
Jeff and his staff are at West Knoll. Gage, Jeff’s partner, and Zoila, his housekeeper, live there of course. Zoila cleans for Jeff three days a week and runs errands on the fourth day. Jeff has kept Lupe to clean two days a week. He had hired Lupe to fill in when Zoila had her plastic surgery. Lupe did such a good job, Jeff has kept her as an incentive for Zoila to keep up the pace. Jeff admits it’s kind of cruel, but so far it’s working. Jenni is back as Jeff’s full time assistant. Vanina was hired to take Trace’s place. Jeff has also hired another assistant, Andrew to take Sarah’s place. Andrew is in his mid-thirties and, in order to keep his trust fund, he has to hold a full time job until he turns 45. Of course Jeff is going to use that fact to his advantage.
Jeff and Jenni are in the car talking about Jenni’s upcoming engagement party. She has finally become engaged to be married to her boyfriend Jonathan. Jeff complains about having to buy her gifts again since this is her second marriage. Jenni’s phone rings and she see it’s from someone about her party preparations. She answers the phone as Deb, Jeff’s tough-talking assistant. She takes a message for Jenni and tells the wine vendor that Jenni is a hot mess, but she’s got everything under control. I love Jenni as Deb.
Jeff has bought a house he previously owned in Gramercy Park. He originally intended to do slight modifications before he and Gage moved in. However, it’s become a full blown remodel and will take a year instead of three months. This is the longest he has taken to refinish a home. It could be a full time job for Jeff, but he has other projects.
He’s still working with Jeanne Shaw on her main house. He finished her house on Durand. He’s also working on a home in Calabasas for his client Lisa. He is finishing up the remodel in Spring Oak for Mike and Laura. That’s the residence where he had to fire the contractor and hire a new one.
Jeff’s not complaining about being busy, but he is stressing about getting Gramercy finished while working on all his other projects. Gramercy will probably be Jeff and Gage’s permanent home where they will settle down and start a family. Gage has taken over the project management of Gramercy. Jeff keeps making changes, much to Gage’s frustration. Gage just wants it finished already so they can move on with their lives and start a family.
Jeff checks on Spring Oak and of course, he is being anal-retentive about everything. Gage and Jeff decide to play a trick on Andrew and scaring the crap out of him. It works as Andrew screams like a girl. Jeff likens his staff as being a fraternity and Andrew is going through the hazing phase.
Jeff and Jenni are in the car again and Jenni is talking about the wedding because she knows it drives Jeff crazy hearing about it nonstop. Jenni gives just as good as she gets from Jeff.
Back at Spring Oak, Jeff tells Andrew the owners will be back in town in a week and he will have to stay there full time to make sure everything gets done because the owners plan on sleeping there instead of a hotel.
At Gramercy, Jeff decides to install a huge generator to cover for the rolling blackouts that occur there. Gage thinks it’s unnecessary to have the generator. They argue about where the generator is going to be installed. Jeff is not used to having to compromise with someone else when it comes to his personal decisions. If Jeff and Gage ever break up it will be over that generator.
Back in the car (again), Jenni asks Jeff if redoing Gramercy has put a strain on his and Gage’s relationship. Jeff wonders where that question came from and Jenni says planning for the wedding has been stressful for her and Jonathan. Jeff says yes, it has. Jenni thinks Jeff has fears of whether he’s really ready for the whole house and children thing.
Andrew is at Spring Oak and he’s going over last minute things that must be done before the owners return. This is Andrews’s first design job and he’s held a myriad of other jobs before. There is a huge leak in the bathroom and Andrew has to go turn off the water main. Andrew calls Jeff in a panic about it. Of course water has flooded all over the bathroom, but it hasn’t gotten to the hardwood floors. Jeff thanks Andrew for the information and turns around from going to his appointment to check on what happened. Jeff thinks Andrew blew things out of proportion. Andrew is a nervous nelly and has only been there a week.
Back at West Knoll, Jeff asks Andrew if he’s going to Jenni’s engagement party. Andrew says he wasn’t invited. Jeff asks Vanina if she was, and she says yes. Jenni is sitting right there and Jeff wants to call Jenni out on not inviting the whole office to the party. Of course, Jenni says it’s OK for Andrew to come to the party.
Andrew and Jenni are cleaning the garage doors at Spring Oak. Gage is inside getting things ready. The owners arrive. Jeff tells Andrew to be positive and not let the owners know what’s been going on at the last minute. Mike and Laura, the clients, are very happy with the results of Jeff’s redesign. Laura cries when she sees her walk in closet. It looks great and definitely has Jeff’s personal aesthetic. Jeff had a lot of fun doing it because he was given pretty much free reign to do whatever he wanted. Jeff worries about Andrew maintaining his stress level, but for now he has done a good job and he’s safe.
Vanina tells Jeff she thinks the Generator location at Gramercy is bad. He accuses her of being in cahoots with Gage, but she says she’s not. While they are talking, Jeff notices the sprinkler system is not fixed the way Jeff wanted. He orders Gage to call the landscaper to fix the sprinkler system and he wants a new gardener. Gage tells Jeff not to assume he’s not been doing anything; he’s been working very hard and will take care of it. Jeff thinks he and Gage are going to come to blows over the Gramercy house.
Jeff asks Zoila what she thinks about a certain wallpaper design for her room at Gramercy. She thinks it looks nice, but Jeff asks Jenni what she thinks the design looks like. Jenni just smiles. Jeff whispers to Zoila the design looks like a vagina. Zoila calls Jeff a pervert. Jeff tells Zoila she doesn’t want hundreds of vaginas on her wall and she tells Jeff she would prefer penises. I’m sure conversations like this are the norm around Jeff’s house/office.
Later at West Knoll, Jeff asks Nancy, the house assistant, to make everyone a shot of apple cider vinegar to boost their immune systems. Nancy swears by it. Nancy is a former client of Jeff’s and he hired her after Jett told Jeff he couldn’t work more hours and left. Andrew makes a big production when drinking his vinegar shot. He acts like a baby and runs into the bathroom to throw up. What a drama queen.
At Spring Oak, Laura and Jeff take a walk-through to make a list of final items needing to be done. Laura tells Jeff she and Mike have decided to stay up north and sell the Spring Oak house. This surprises Jeff.
Andrew shows up all stressed out. Jenni thinks he’s a worrier and wonders why in the heck he’s working for Jeff Lewis. He should be working in a zen garden or a spa.
Back at West Knoll, Zoila and Jenni are singing “Don’t be Tardy for the Party” because Jenni’s engagement party is that night and Zoila is excited about going. Everyone is at the party except for Jonathan. Jonathan and Jenni have a long distance relationship because he’s from Chicago. Jeff asks Jenni if Jonathan has cold feet because he’s not at the party yet. Jeff is always teasing Jenni about Jonathan backing out of the wedding. He finally shows up and everyone applauds. He has a very nice looking boy next door quality. Jenni makes a toast and it looks like Jeff might even get choked up a little. Jeff thinks Jonathan has been worth the wait for Jenni. Next, Jonathan makes a toast to Jenni and it brings a tear to my eye. He’s a keeper! Jenni hopes her happiness is an inspiration for others who have been through a divorce and don’t think they’ll find love again. She says to never give up on love.
Jeff and Jenni are in the car again. They spend a whole lotta time in that car going from project to project. Jeff calls Gage about Gramercy and they get into an argument about not putting tape on the floor because it will ruin the finish. Jeff accuses Gage of being passive aggressive because he’s not getting his way.
Later Jeff and Gage are having a lunch meeting and have a discussion about things not working out. Jeff thinks they need to talk about an exit strategy. Jeff thought redoing Gramercy was going to be fun, but it’s starting to put a big strain on their relationship. Jeff thinks they need to nip it in the bud. Jeff asks Gage what he thinks about buying Spring Oak and living there and selling the Gramercy place. Gage asks Jeff if he’s already bought Spring Oak and Jeff intimates the deal is done.
Gage is upset that Jeff didn’t include him in this decision. He tells Jeff he loves Gramercy. Jeff asks Gage what if someone came along and offered $3 million for Gramercy. Sounds like Jeff has pretty much made up his mind and Gage is not happy. I can’t say that I blame Gage. They are supposed to be a couple and that should have been a joint decision. I hope Jeff can adjust to the fact that he’s now part of a “we” instead of just “me.”
From the previews, it looks like Jeff hasn’t lightened up much. Of course, when has Jeff ever really lightened up? He’s Jeff Lewis. This is one of my favorite Bravo shows.
We have 2 weeks of Dance Moms today
Dance Moms – August 28th
by Michigan Susan
First, I apologize for the delay! My computer crashed last week but I’ve borrowed a laptop and should be able to keep up. So sorry !!!
Bottom row: Paige (due to her injury), Brooke (hip hop wasn’t her thing) and Mackenzie (hip hop was over her head)
Middle row: Nia (because she won the most improved scholarship) and Chloe (because she did a good job)
Top row: Maddie (because she won the Junior scholarship)
Sadly, Kendall still isn’t on the pyramid. Jill says that Abby is torturing her and torturing Kendall.
Really, Jill? Why are you still there?
Abby said that the concert last week was a smashing success. Now they have 2 weeks to get ready for Nationals. But first, this week they are heading to California for the “ihollywood” competition.
Solos: Mackenzie, Nia, and Chloe
Group: everyone including Kendall
The group music is called “I see kites flying”. It’s another creepy piece by the same person who did “Where have all the children gone?” Same dark undertones but this time about kids in an insane asylum.
Nicaya and her Dance Mom Kiya arrive. The story is that since Nicaya is a student of one of Abby’s colleague’s in St. Louis, that Abby will take a look at Nicaya’s dancing. Then we hear Abby say that this will be a surprise that will wake everybody up. My own theory is that Lifetime totally fabricated this ridiculous story line for ratings. You choose the more plausible explanation.
Heaven help us. After hearing Kiya’s opinion about everything, I’m starting to actually like Jill. I’m even beginning to miss Candy Apple Kathy!!! While sitting in the Dance Mom room, Kiya tells the other moms that the group needs more personality and “diva-tude”. Apparently, Kiya’s daughter Nicaya has diva-tude and a whole lot more.
As Kiya continues to expound on her daughter’s never-ending talent, we watch as Abby evaluates Nicaya’s skills. She doesn’t know ballet terminology. She has no gymnastic or acro skills.
Kiya continues to yammer on about how she’s a single mom with 4 kids from St. Louis. She had a wife but not anymore. Kiya has the name “Black Patsy” embroidered on a dance school jacket. We learn that the name is in reference to Patsy Ramsey, mother of beauty pageant winner (and murder victim) Jon Benet Ramsey. Apparently, Kiya thinks that Patsy was the ultimate stage mom. What??? At this time, I know that Lifetime is screwing with our heads. Who would say something like that? It’s horrible. It’s not funny. Kiya disgusts me.
Back to the Dancers…
In a cute sister moment at home, Brooke and Paige are on their computer watching the hits on Brooke’s music video of “Summer Love Song”. It’s a catchy tune and Brooke has a nice voice.
Nicaya says she prefers to be called Nini (nee nee).
Paige is worried that the doctor will make her wait 2 more weeks before she can dance again. When she is cleared by the doctor, it is with the understanding of limited dancing with no tricks.
Chloe’s solo is full of glitz and glamour; very new Hollywood according to Abby.
Kiya invites the other moms to lunch. Melissa asks about Kiya’s former wife and Kiya remarks that she’s getting a vibe from Melissa because she’s a little too friendly.
Nia is performing to a Josephine Baker scat.
Abby gyrates around to demonstrate a move. Not a pretty sight.
Drama ensues: Abby puts Nicaya in the group number in Paige’s spot. Kelly storms out. Christi argues with Kiya. Kiya refers to Kelly’s kids as “Broke Back Brooke and Pegleg Paige”. What a horrible, vile woman. She’s seriously making Jill look like an angel.
Abby invites Nicaya to go to California with the group but not necessarily to dance…Abby hasn’t decided yet.
Nia: so beautiful, simple, clean, fabulous, a mini-goddess; she gets 10th in Jr. Solos
Chloe: edgy but is needing more complicated choreography; she gets 5th place in Jr. Solos
Mackenzie: sassy attitude and energetic; she gets 3rd place in mini-solos
Group: Abby finally announces that all the girls (including Nicaya) will perform. I found the group dance to be a little odd. Nicaya, in spite of all her mother’s claims, was not outstanding in any way. But the group takes 1stplace with the overall high score
Back in the dressing room, Kiya goes ballistic and offends everyone. She tries to play the sister card with Holly who would have none of that. Kiya calls the mothers (mostly about Kelly) liars and bitches. She’s exhausting and obnoxious. She needs to go. Please Lifetime, stop the insanity.
Dance Moms 9/4—The Road to Nationals
by Michigan Susan
Bottom row: Kendall (back on the team; needs to improve technique)
Paige (coming off injury; performed well)
Brooke (didn’t finish the group number with the other girls)
Maddie (blended in; should stand out)
Middle Row: Nia (handled solo well)
Chloe (needs to be consistent)
Top Row: Mackenzie! (was 3rd in her division)
The girls and the Dance Moms are still in LA this week. They will be having dance rehearsals at Millenium Dance Studio. Abby complimented the girls on their behavior and kindness towards Nicaya. Abby then chastised the moms for behaving badly to Kaya and said they ran Kaya and Nicaya off…causing Abby to lose another student. Abby tells the girls that they will be attending the In10sity (that must be the way they spell “intensity” in California LOL) Dance Competition and Abby will use this competition to determine who gets a solo at Nationals.
Solos for this week: Mackenzie, Chloe, Paige, Kendall, Nia, and Brooke. What? No Maddie? Melissa prods Maddie to ask about a solo. Abby tells Maddie to toughen up, that she won’t get every part she auditions for. Maddie is in tears. Poor kid. Still getting punished for not doing a solo when Abby wanted her to compete (beat) Justice of the Candy Apples a few weeks ago.
Towards the end of rehearsal, Melissa stands up and announces that she and the girls need to go out and disappears. Christi says her liar radar went off when Melissa left so abruptly with no explanation. We then see Melissa taking her girls to the MSA agency, a talent agency that will be helping Maddie and Mackenzie get commercial work.
Kelly announces that she has arranged for a professional recording of Brooke’s song and asks the girls to sing the back up music. The girls are thrilled.
Maddie asks Abby, yet again, for a solo. This time Abby tells her that Maddie let her down. She told Maddie that she needs to want it, work for it and prove that she deserves it.
Abby decides that she wants to make a music video of Brooke’s song. They go out with a hand held camcorder and dance around LA. Brooke says that Abby was sucking the fun of it. Maddie said that dancing in the street in LA was the best day ever.
Maddie asks AGAIN for a solo. Abby says she needs to show she still has the ambition and gives Maddie a lyrical solo. Thank goodness. I thought the kid was going to have to go on medication if Abby said no.
At the In10sity Dance Competition (what a dumb name)
Mackenzie: another adorable acro dance but for a few seconds FORGETS her dance. Melissa yells from the crowd to keep going and Mac recovers quickly. Later Mac says she’s worried that Abby will be mad L
Kendall: She did a nice job but I hated the big lips on her costume top. The ending was cute and she had lots of personality on stage. Kendall says she wanted to show Abby what she could do.
Nia: a cute, energetic 60’s inspired dance. Nia always has great attitude and presence on stage
Maddie: beautifully choreographed with her signature spins and expressive face
Her mom Melissa was beside herself with emotion afterwards. She yelled “Beautiful!” several times and thanked Abby for Maddie’s fabulous dance.
Chloe: lovely contemporary dance. Chloe’s mom Christi is very frustrated about the pressure Abby is putting on the girls since this performance determines if they get a solo at Nationals. Chloe was proud of her performance but is worried about her chance to get a solo.
Paige: prior to her solo, Abby tells her to forget about the pain for 2 minutes and get through it. Later, Abby says that Paige needs more time to heal. During the dance, Paige forgot a bit of it and cries afterwards. She’s also in a lot of pain. Kelly says this is too much pressure on the girls.
Brooke: beautifully performed, hit all her acro tricks.
Mackenzie: 1st place in Elite Mini with highest overall score
Chloe: 6th place in Elite Junior
Kendall: 5th place in Elite Junior
Maddie: 1st place in Elite Junior with highest overall score
Brooke: 4th place for Teen Solo
Whew! Kaya and Nicaya are gone. Glad to see them go. AND happy days are here again because crazy Candy Apple Kathy will be back next week! Can’t wait.
(Anderson will feature Abby Lee Miller on Friday. Tune in to see what she has to say. NMD)
Dance Mom Holly has a website with some photos of the girls rehearsing. Cute. http://staree.com/dancemomholly/13468165935104411
Aviva Drescher continues to make news after the explosive Real Housewives of New York on Monday. In new video interviews, she explains that she’s no longer speaking to Ramona Singer and her “puppet” Sonja Morgan. This should be an exciting reunion with all the bickering that’s gone on with this cast. Let’s just hope they don’t overtalk each other and drive viewers away like the S4 Cast.
Kyle Richards has landed a guest spot on CSI. She’ll play a divorcee who is questioned when her neighbor is murdered.
New Miami Housewife – Karent Sierra tells us a little about herself – and claims she’s level headed. How in the world did she get cast of the show? Miami debuts a week from Thursday.
Another photo of Phaedra Parks and Apollo out having fun with Chef Roble, this time tweeted by Kandi Burress http://instagram.com/p/PLhzkkBJM2/ Are they – or are they not – separated?
Teresa Giudice has been quoted as saying that Melissa Gorga is “one big joke” in a new news story. http://www.examiner.com/article/teresa-giudice-believes-she-is-the-star-of-rhonj-and-not-melissa-gorga Something tells me Melissa doesn’t care what Teresa thinks.
Caroline Manzo is tweeting about “looking for an apartment” according to wetpaint. I guess that love nest in the Brownstone isn’t as great as she told us it was.
Jaqueline Laurita opens up a little more about her son’s autism to the Huff Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-murro/jacqueline-laurita-opens-_b_1848658.html
Melissa Gorga has released new cover art for her single – “I Just Wanna” on twitter. No news on when the actual single will be released – but I’m guessing before the show finishes airing so that she can promote it.
Her first single – On Display – continues to be a show stopper.
