Basketball Wives getting the Axe by NoMoreDrama

TMZ is reporting that 4 out of the 6 cast members of Basketball Wives LA are getting fired for not allowing the cameras into their full lives.  The last straw was when Gloria flew to Vegas to get married and didn’t bother telling production. The only ones back next year will be Draya and Jackie – although TMZ also reports that none of the wives have been told yet.

Real Housewives of Miami – Why Can’t They All Mind Their Own Business by NoMoreDrama

If everyone had just minded their own business, Lisa’s party might have come off without a hitch.

I Know how my Sister Gets When she Drinks Alcohol

The prize for worst behaved goes to Joanna.  Out of control can’t describe it.  She screamed at Joe Francis (although he is a pig).  She screamed at her fiance Romain until he grew disgusted and left the party.  She screamed at her sister Marta (who was trying to calm her down) and threatened her.  She screamed at Adriana who was trying to have a conversation with Karent.  She screamed about Marysol’s fur shrug – though thankfully her posse restrained her enough that she didn’t go after Marysol directly.  She continued her disgusting behavior on WWHL calling Adriana a beyotch the first second she could, and claimed she didn’t have a drinking problem.  And when Adriana phoned in she overtalked her so no one could hear what Adriana had to say.

Carrier Pigeon

Karent earned a spot on the bottom of the pyramid for her awful behavior last night.  What a disgusting display of stirring the shit and walking away pretending that you’re innocent.  With that sickly smile on her face, she did absolutely nothing to diffuse any of the horrible behavior going on around her.  She was just as bad on Watch What Happens Live.

James and Beau

Lea’s friend James came to her defense when Karent’s friend Beau got in her face about being snubbed.  Get over yourself Beau.  She doesn’t know who you are and doesn’t care.  While Lea handled herself with grace, James had to jump in and defend her (she was doing a great job of it by herself) and one thing led to another and James pushed Beau into the pool.  Not so funny with the sound equipment in the middle of the pool.

Adriana did slap Joanna – and normally she’d be right on the bottom of the pyramid for that – but she was actually trying to get away from Joanna when it happened.  Still not cool.     I will never condone violence even if Joanna was the instigator.

Wow I have a lot of sympathy for Marta.  Joanna yelling at her gave us a little insight into what she has to deal with. Yes Marta, your sister is crazy, but Daysy is one heck of a nice person to cheer you up like that.

What is there to say.  He’s still with Joanna as far as I can tell, but he came to her defense, and did his best to calm her down.  Walking away was probably the best thing he could do in that situation.  He showed a lot of control with Joe Francis.  Some have wondered why he told Adriana be respectful and didn’t say a word to Joe Francis. From his twitter line I believe it was because he was furious with Joe Francis and didn’t want to start something, but with Adriana he was just trying to calm the ladies down.

Ana and Marysol

They stayed out of it all.  Good for them.

Lea was a riot.  She tried to calm things down, was very compassionate about Lisa’s party being ruined, and basically enjoyed herself while the rest of the ladies were stuck in the kitchen dealing with the trainwreck.

Lisa and Daysy

Lisa lost it a few times, but for good reason.  In the end she managed to laugh a little and kept the prize (earning money for her charity) in mind.  I hope she and Lea have made up – Lea was pretty harsh on her in her last blog.  She really seems like a sweetie.  Daysy was also really great trying to cheer Marta up.  It’s clear they’ve bonded while Marta had lived in Lisa’s house.

The Real Housewives of Miami “Bra and Brawls: Part 2” Recap by Krissy S

…Lisa’s lingerie charity party for Susan G. Komen for the Cure is in full swing. The alcohol is flowing and the house is packed with guests. Joanna and Marta are still reeling from Joe Francis’s accusations that he had sex with both sisters and Karent is in damage control mode after forcing Joe to tell the sisters that he said he slept with them. Lea and James are flitting around from group to group and Marysol is stunned after being confronted by Karent for wearing fur in front of Joanna.

Marta confesses to Joanna that she slept with Joe Francis and Joanna flips out. Calling her sister a ‘whore bag,’ Joanna is pissed that she has been defending Marta against Joe’s accusations all night. Joanna is also concerned that the rumor is going to cause more problems with her and Romain. Lea is upset that anything was said in the first place and Joe blames Karent who stirred the pot. Meanwhile, Karent finds a willing ear in her friend Beau at the bar and whines that she was only trying to defend Joanna and the drama that ensued from her meddling is not her fault.

The more Joanna drinks, the angrier she gets. She is furious at Marysol for wearing the fur vest and says that she is going to ‘burn in hell for eternity.’ Joanna wants to confront Marysol at the party, but Marta talks her out of it. (On a side note, doesn’t Joanna eat meat and wear leather? Hmmm.) (Yes -she confirmed the wearing leather part on WWHL and justified it by saying it was a by-product of meat eaters anyway – NMD) Joanna goes on and on and on about what a horrible and disgusting person Marysol is for wearing fur. When she sees that Adriana is wearing a fascinator with feathers on it, she starts bashing her too.

In comes Adriana and Marysol fills her in on Karent confronting her about wearing fur in front of Joanna. The article comes up and Marysol says that she knows the journalist well and that she would not make things up. Adriana is upset because she introduced Karent to the group and feels responsible for inviting in bad behavior. She decides that she needs to confront Karent again.

Poor Romain is trying to keep his cool with Joe talking about having sex with his fiancée and Joanna going into a drunken rage. He says again that he cannot be with Joanna if she is going to continue being a nasty drunk.

Lea is talking with James and Joanna when Beau confronts her about a previous incident when he felt snubbed by her. Lea apologizes, saying that she probably didn’t have her glasses on and things are smoothed out. They hug and make up and things are fine until Lea pulls out her phone while Beau is talking. He is insulted and Lea defends herself saying that it might have been her son calling. James jumps in and says that Lea doesn’t need to apologize for anything and fingers start wagging in the air. Voices get raised and James throws his drink in Beau’s face and then shoves him into the pool. Lisa runs over to stop the fight and tries to keep James and newly soaked Beau apart. The splash from Beau getting tossed into the pool shorted out the DJ booth so there is no music. Lisa loses it and starts screaming at Lea and James for ruining her party.

Things start to simmer down and all of the ladies move to Lisa’s kitchen. Ana, Adriana, Joanna, Karent, Lisa, Marta, Marysol, and Romain gather around for shots.

Adriana tries to pull Karent aside to continue their conversation from the Venue Magazine party, but Karent doesn’t want to leave the group. Adriana brings out the newspaperarticle and Joanna comes over to defend Karent. Adriana tells Joanna to butt out and Joanna accuses her of bullying Karent. Voices get raised, fingers start wagging, and things get heated.

Romain tries to stop them before they get out of hand and Joanna yells at him. He is over it and leaves the party. Marta tries to calm Joanna down and Joanna shoves her.

At this point Joanna and Adriana are screaming in each others’ faces. In a huff, Adriana walks away and Joanna follows her screaming down the hall. Adriana whips around to Joanna, punches her in the face, grabs her arms and begins shoving her backwards down the hall.

A party guest is able to get in between them and break up the fight. Ana sums it up best, “This ‘Dancing with the Stars’ supermodel and the feisty Brazilian get into a fist fight at a charity event while wearing sexy lingerie. You can’t make this s** up.”

Adriana and Joanna are moved into separate rooms to cool off. Marta is crying and being comforted by Karent while Joanna yells at her. There is something seriously twisted about the sisters’ relationship. Joanna is so venomous and abusive towards her. Marta tells Joanna that she is acting crazy and Joanna spits out that she is going to lose her if she doesn’t stop.

Marta walks away and Lisa’s maid Daysy tries to calm her down. The next time we see Marta she is back in the kitchen and this time being comforted by Joe Francis who has his hands all over her.

Lisa and Lea are beginning to build a relationship. Lisa respects Lea and acknowledges their similarities and Lea is impressed with the way Lisa handled her charity event and the drama that went down. Lisa confesses that she originally thought Lea was a b** but now she understands her sense of humor and Lea tells Lisa that she is smarter than she thought she was. At the end of the episode, Lea sums up the party, “So the evening overall is another Miami night. Crazies, loony-tunes, whack-a-doodles. Fabulousness. Egos. You know?  Gab, talk, gossip, repeat, twist, bend. I mean it’s crazy. It’s Miami. It’s Miami at its finest.”

Amazing Race – Leg 5 – Oct 28, 2012 by MelTheHound

Welcome back race fans… Here is where we stand after the 4 episodes.

  • Abbie & Ryan – Dating Divorcees
  • Trey and Alexis -Dating couple (Texas)
  • Rob and Kelley -Married Monster Truckers
  • Jaymes and James – Chippendales
  • Josh and Brent – Goat Farmers (Beekmans)
  • James and Mark – Friends (Rockers)
  • Natlalie and Nadiya – Twins

Welcome back race fans. Last week we lost the substitute teachers, Gary and Will who dubbed themselves Superfans from Michigan. If the trend of the past few weeks had continued we would have lost Trey and Lexi to the bad luck of their cab breaking down. As it happened, that would have been the case, but Superfan’s cab took them to the wrong place for the pit stop leg forcing them to go back and complete the leg properly. They weren’t the only ones who had to but their dumb luck of the previous leg, ran out. Rockers finished leg 4 in first place and Trey and Lexi finished in last (7th).

This time around, we are still in Bangladesh and are not leaving for this particular part. The show opens with James, of Rockers, Skyping with his family. It seems that before he left for the race, his father had some doctors appointments as he’s been fighting cancer for quite some time but has always survived it. Not this time though. Stage 4 Cancer of the bowel (I think that’s what it was) and it will not go into remission. I feel bad for James, as a son of a cancer victim, I know exactly what he’s going through. His family however encourages him to finish the race.

Being the first to arrive, Rockers are also the first to leave. The clue they are handed sends them to the market  to find the eggplant vendor for their first clue. That clue takes them to a bridge via taxi (waiting for them at a marked location – this is very important) where they will find their next clue. That clue is a roadblock. The task is to build a large balance scale to spec, and then use it to weigh out a certain amount of bamboo vs 4 large rocks as counter weights. James does the task and at first his scale isn’t properly constructed. He’s used the wrong type of rope to build the tripod that holds the balance beam. It also has to be high enough so neither side hits the ground. The rope is in plain sight but for awhile he cannot find it. When he finally does, he asks the guy sitting underneath it, why he didn’t point it out. The guy just smiles and shrugs. James gets it done, gets the next clue and Rockers are on their way to the detour (I’ll get to that in a moment).

Next to arrive are Twins and Divorcees. I’m going to say this right here and now.. There was a reason I didn’t like these Twinzies and this leg sealed it for me. These have to be two of the most rude people I’ve ever seen play this game. The roadblock clue said something about it not being heavy so Divorcee lets Abbie handle the task. Remember the one who was making faces at the twinnies? Yes, Her. She struggled with building the scale and had to do it over a couple times and fix different things. All the while, one twin is shouting at the other as she always does and this time, she’s gotten a couple of the local kids involved. Before they got there, Divorcees (who are the only ones who can claim the 2 million dollar prize) declared they were going to win the most legs, beating out Combat from last season.. Not so fast there fella. Twins finish before them thought the twins arrived afterwards. Monster Truckers arrive and though Rob thinks perhaps he should have done the task, Kelley is handling it quite well. She too has to make some adjustments but gets it done. Turns out, she’s was a rodeo barrel racer. What that has to do with building a scale, I have no idea but I guess it was one of those things that production felt it worth telling us. Beekmans, at this point are still looking for the cab stand and I think that even behind Trey and Lexi are the last to arrive at this task. Brent has a bitch of a time building the scale, Chippers have some trouble too. Trey gets through it pretty easily. Bottom line is they all finish the task but Beekmans are clearly in last place at this point.

The next clue is a detour. Straw Dogs or Bamboo Jungle. Everyone except Divorcee chose Bamboo Jungle so we’ll do that one first. The object is to collect 40 pieces of various size bamboo poles and deliver them with a rickshaw to a construction site to be used as scaffolding. The pieces vary in size and length from what looks like 10 feet up to 20 or 25 feet. The first to arrive at this task are the rockers. Once they find the marked rack of bamboo, they begin to collect what they need and carry it to the rickshaw. The get it loaded up and are on their way to the construction site. When they arrive, the guy counts the pieces and says yes, they get their next clue which is the pit stop. Now each of the teams seemed to have help navigating this stuff though the streets and pushing it along but the rockers seemed to have the most help. Maybe because they were the first to leave. The Twins, managed to hit everything and everybody with the bamboo rods, including the camera crew. They were the third to leave after divorcees.

Chippendales had a bit of a struggle with it the first time, they were the only ones who didn’t have all the required pieces on their cart and had to return. As they were originally getting them tied down, they tossed their pieces off of the cart and left 3 of them behind so they had to take the entire load back, make it right and come back a second time. Originally they had left just ahead of Trey and Lexi and would have beaten them if not for those 3 pieces they left laying on the ground. They say they’ve been conserving the money by not eating sometimes and it’s wearing thin on them, particularly in that humid heat. Beekmans know they are in last place and are finishing the task just to say they finished the leg. Never give up fellas, you don’t know what awaits you at the finish line.

Straw Dogs is a task where the players must comb out 20 bundles of Jute and deliver a full bundle of 20 to the weaving area. This is a textile sweatshop where they make bags out of the stuff. Probably for shipping vegetables or something like that. To untangle the jute (rope?) they have to beat it against this bed of nails contraption and draw it out like a comb. Divorcees made the mistake of just counting the number of times these bundles were swung at the comb rather than note what was really going on. So once they finished their 20 bundles they had to do many of them over again. Remember, these people want to beat combat in the number of legs won. They just blew that opportunity if everything is happening simultaneously. Actually, I don’t think they ever had a chance at it because the rockers finished the leg long before anyone else. Woops, Just gave that away…

Once the tasks of the detour are completed, they are given their next clue which is a stencil drawing of the place shown in the top left photo here. That is their pit stop. First to arrive are the Rockers. They win a trip to the Malasian Rain Forest (take the back woods off mosquito spray fellas). Second to arrive are the Divorcees, Abbie and Ryan. Ryan is being a bit pissy about losing the leg as now there is no chance of breaking Combat’s record. Abbie is happy to have finished the leg at all. Third are the twins and they seem to have the same attitude as Ryan. Fourth, Trey and Lexi followed by Monster Trucker (who didn’t really embarrass us Americans this time around). Last but not least here, Chippendales after they finally delivered their complete cart of bamboo to the construction site. Jaymes or James, don’t know which is which, tripped over a rock or something on his way to the mat. Kind of embarrassing I guess (these guys need to have a meal or something) but they did finish, in 6th place.

That leaves us with the Beekmans finishing in 7th and last place. They of course, figure they are done but, miracle of miracles, Non Elimination Round. I knew this was coming and actually thought it overdue. In the next leg of the race they will have to complete a speed bump at some point. For those who don’t know, this is an extra task that will put them further behind the pack. Typically it isn’t that difficult but time consuming.

That’s about it folks. See you next time when we are off to Turkey.

  1. Powell says:

Good morning everyone. I hope you’re safe.

Boston and Butter I don’t know what woke you ladies up so early. Are you going to need a nap later? 🙂

  2. TexasTart says:

Good morning! NMD, I loved the pyramid yesterday and I see it changed appropriately!

    • 🙂 I’m sure it’ll change again as time goes on. What I’m really curious about is why Joe Francis hasn’t said anything in answer to the allegations. Joanna says it’s still within the statute of limitations (less than 10 years ago).

      • Orson says:

Since this isn’t his first time around with an alleged “statutory” violation, he probably remembered something his attorney from the last time around probably repeatedly told him: “Keep it zipped. Say NOTHING!”

    • Powell says:

Ooh! It has hasn’t it?? 🙂

  3. Powell says:

    Happy Birthday Another Lynn.

  4. Powell says:

MTH thks for Downton Abby. I follow them on Twitter and tried to watch from the UK link on NY phone but that didn’t work.

  5. ATLnNYC09 says:

Good morning everyone from Queens, NYC. Its very windy here but nothing bad as of yet in my area.

  6. ramonacoaster says:

I wonder if I should tell my neighbor not to power blow leaves into the street where they can clog up the storm drains. It’s always tricky when you give unsolicited advice to someone but if there’s a flood on my block because of him I’m gonna be pissed. I’m not sure if the leaves I raked up and put in lawn bags would work like sandbags against rising water. All the lawn furniture is put away and now all that’s left is to wait for the hurricane and eat.

    • Powell says:

You live there too Ramonacoaster. Just tell him it could affect the whole neighborhood. If he doesn’t and if the worst case scenario happens and you have to pay for a plumber knock on his door w/the bill. If he’s a good neighbor he’ll do the right thing. I hope you all will be ok.

    • Kansas Girl says:

RC, I thought you were on the west coast! I’m putting you on the list. And yes, speak to your neighbor. Leaves can rot down and make a very effective plug in storm sewers. Around here it’s not legal to do this (but rarely reported).

      • Powell says:

There’s a neighborhood in NW District of Columbia, 45-50 minutes from me in MD that homes flood w/heavy rains, disasterous in hurricane weather. Those poor neighbors have been on the news yr after yr showing their flooded homes. There is some kind of drainage problem that DC Govt is making all kinds of excuses as to what the issue is to correct it. They showed the neighbors on the news Friday eve preparing their neighborhood. They made their own grates to put over the gutters, raked leaves block to block and these were leaves in the street that DC should have had the street sweeping trucks doing. They showed a Councilman in his suit sweeping leaves. The whole thing is deplorable.

    • Donna says:

My mom and dad & neighbors would keep their curbs clean of debris to prevent flooding. As new people moved in one or another neighbor would ask them to keep their curb clean and then went on to explain that since they kept it clean no basements were flooded.

  7. BB says:

Happy Birthday Another Lynn. We’re OK here in southeastern VA. Just a lot of rain and flooding in the usual low-lying areas. Haven’t heard of any injuries or anything like that. Everything is pretty much closed today so there aren’t a lot of people on the roads. Everyone to the north, please stay safe.

  8. Yuck – Kelsey Grammer partied into the wee hours of the morning with his newborn baby tucked in a bassinet by his side according to TMZ

Music blaring, etc. What a tool.

  9. Good Morning! Adding my thoughts and prayers that everyone stays safe today. I looked at some arial (?) views of the storm yesterday and wow….I am so sorry for what you are having to face. Watching the news this morning, I can’t believe what these reporters do to get their scoop!

Jumping up to read the blog. Thanks to all who contribute! Hugs!

New post and all the goodies at my place! Enjoy!

  10. LavaLady says:

I’m in northern NJ and all is well here. Not too much rain or wind yet. Almost everyone has no work or school, but stores, gyms, etc. are still open at least until this afternnon. Looks like we will get the worst of the storm tonight into tomorrow morning. Both LavaKids are home, from school and work, and LavaMan as well has no work. We all hit the gym early this am, since it looks like we’ll be in all day tomorrow.

No reports on our house in southern NJ. Looks like the center is going right over our little beach town. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with that. Stay safe everyone. Be careful. Even though it’s not bad here now, it won’t last too much longer.

thanks KGirl!! haven’t heard from my son today. Wondering if he’s been evacuated. I’ve been reading that many in NYC (Long Island) have been. Will keep ya’ll posted if/when I hear anything.

      • Kansas Girl says:

Yes, NYC is evacuating flood areas now. They’re saying this is serious and to get out while they have the chance. Very high water.

      • Please do Lainey. I hope he communicates soon and lets you know! Kids!! 😛

        • contessa says:

Lainey please keep us posted about your son.

To all of our Sister/Brother members…you are all in our prayers and thoughts. Please be careful and safe. XXOO

          • LaineyLainey says:

Hi Contessa – not sure if you saw my comment below. He finally did send me a couple of texts. He said he is in Zone B and was not part of those who were evacuated because they are not in an area that normally experiences severe flooding. He had power (about an hour ago) and said the bodegas in his neighborhood are still open. I will keep posting as I hear things. BTW: I’M VERY RELIEVED just hoping the communication stays open.

  12. Kansas Girl says:

My cousin posted to Facebook that he arrived safely in the DC area returning from Peru. He said the airlines loaded and departed early and really booked it to get in before the storm. He was to land at 12:30 a.m. but got in early and was home by 1. Said it was windy and a bit rainy, but not storming at that hour. We’re just relieved that he’s home safe!

  13. LaineyLainey says:

Favorite line/phrase from the Atlanta Hairdressers Tell All (when describing Nene): “From Ratchet to Riches!!!!” so funny.

    • ATLnNYC09 says:

OMG Lainey I loved that show! It was 1 hour of pure fabulousness.

    • keida says:

I also loved it. I wish Miss Lawrence would’ve dished more though.

      • contessa says:

Those two were hilarious last night. I can’t remember all the lines, but they were so funny I was laughing out loud. Kim has really changed up from those nasty synthetic wigs, and Nene’s look has certainly become much more polished from season 1.

  14. LaineyLainey says:

Check out the Hurricane Sandy “Mascot”

  15. Kathleen Caesar says:

Thank you for carrying on the legacy. I really miss Lynn’s spot on realhousewive’s news. Thanks again.

  16. shamrockblonde says:

I’m at work now, and will stay at a nearby hotel tonight – it is gettng worse out here, and you can feel the wind as yoy drive – very creepy sensation – my younger daughter got evacuated last night so she, and her two children are at my house along with my older daughter and the twins – her husband works for the town so we won’t be seeing him for a few days – keep well all – and stay safe

Jeff – the twins (TAR twins, not my twins) annoyed me to no end last night they were practically yelling at the people THEY hit with the bamboo as though it was THEIR fault!!!!! – my heart went out to the rocker dude – losing any loved one is never an easy thing – and Jeff – I will say a prayer for your Dad, for you and for all your care – my Dad was one of the finest men ever to walk the earth – I miss him every day –

    GO ROCKERS!!!!

seriously, everyone – keep safe –

    • melthehound says:

Thank you SRB but it was my mother. She lost the fight in Feb 2009. Dad has been gone since 1999.

I thought the Twins were beyond rude. I know some here are cheering for the girl-girl team but they have worn my last nerve.

      • nohausfrau says:

ITA about those twins. They are rude and one of their comments was quite racist.

        • LaineyLainey says:

OMGosh, really? I haven’t had a chance to watch my recording of last night’s TAR. I am glued to the weather channel. I am so curious to see how Lexi and Trey fared (I haven’t read the MTH’s blog, yet) and now I’m really curious to see what the twins said/did.

        • melthehound says:

I thought about bringing that up NHF, but I didn’t want to get into that fight.

    • Kansas Girl says:

You had to go to work???? Sorry! Staying in a hotel is good. Maybe they have a spa? LOL! You’ll come through the storm all relaxed!

  17. Kansas Girl says:

If you’re on Facebook, check Northern NJ Weather Authority. They’re posting pictures coming in of flooding. Atlantic City is flooding.

    • LaineyLainey says:

oh my goodness – there is flooding already and Sandy hasn’t even hit land.

    • Powell says:

Watching GMA this morn weather lady Hannah Storm, ironic huh, was doing her reporting from ATL City. She was in the water. She said the beach us going to be changed. They showed the weather man in NC. He and one of the people that helps hook his audio up were pulled in the water. They got themselves up and out but that was not good. I don’t want any of these weather people to get hurt for us.

      • Powell….I mentioned this upthread. I have the weather channel on and the anchor just said “we have an army of reporters out in the thick of it”, so come back after commercial. Now….I know they have to do up to date reports and keep people well informed, we could not do without that….but they put some of these reporters in some very dangerous situations that I, IMHO, don’t think they should do. Sometimes I think it is more about getting that “better scoop or pic than the other guy” than just reporting the news. I am nervous for these guys!!

      • LaineyLainey says:

Oh my, I hope no one gets hurt trying to bring us news. this reminds me…Did anyone here ever read “Tricky Business” by Dave Barry (fiction)? It followed his first book “Big Trouble” which was made into a movie. The whole story is set in Florida where there is a tropical storm brewing off in the Atlantic. As an aside to the plot the news stations are sending their reporters and crews out into treacherous weather and well…let’s just say that the storm is newsworthy, but then the consequences of sending team after team into the bad weather and flooding creates more news and SPECIAL NEWS EVENTS, and moments of silence, etc. It’s an entertaining, quick read.

  18. Just Wondering In Jersey says:

So far there is only a very small branch down. Very windy and wet but I still have power and I can still cook and make coffee. Why they put electronic ignition on stoves so you can’t cook in a no power situation confounds me.

    • melthehound says:

Get a box of Ohio Matches. The cure for any non working stove top electronic ignition. You won’t be able to bake but you can cook.

    • Kansas Girl says:

Hopefully it all comes down in tiny pieces if it comes down. That would be something!

I used to have a camping gizmo that was to start the campstove. Had a flint in it and sparked. I could use it on my stove if the ignition didn’t work. That’s what you need. Can you start it with a match? Make extra coffee now so you can drink it cold if necessary. Hang in. There’s flooding on the coast now — storm surge.

      Thanks for reporting in!

  19. Glad to see those of you checking in. Know that, along with these wonderful suggestions for practical use, you are also being wrapped in positive warm energy and hugs!!

Power going on and off….winds picking up.
The mayor of my city has declared a state of emergency…this is getting ugly folks.
Every one in the path of the storm-heed all warnings and take every precaution-if this storm is only hype-then who cares…but if it lives up to the hype-we are in for it tonight!!!
    STAY SAFE!!!!!!

  22. Just Wondering In Jersey says:

Wind is picking up and I hear things blowing around in the neighbor’s yard. Think I will sign off and go sit with my cat for a bit. Hopefully I’ll be back later.

  23. keida says:

Everyone on the East coast, stay safe and sending prayers your way.

  24. not THAT Jill says:

Lainey-if your son is anywhere near Sandy Hook he most likely was advised to evacuate-Keep us posted!!!

    • LaineyLainey says:

Jill – thanks for thinking of him…he’s not answering texts and my calls go straight to voice mail. It could be the cell towers are down. Not knowing is hard. Just praying. His apt is at Grand Street, Brooklyn 11211

      • not THAT Jill says:

The wind is getting stronger so maybe he lost power and didn’t charge his phone-Im sure he will check in soon with you. It is not so bad yet so he probably isn’t thinking that you would be worried.

        • LaineyLainey says:

As of last night everything was charged up, I asked him to check in from time to time to keep us posted on his status and whereabouts if he could. Its looking like He can’t. So I’ll sit tight til he calls or txts.

          • not THAT Jill says:

OK keep us posted….and try not to worry-it really isn’t so bad here yet-he is only about 40 minutes from me and we still just have wind and light rain.

          • lori says:

Thinking about your son! The wind is really getting bad it could be that his phones aren’t working because of that. I hope he stays safe!

          • I feel for you!! it must be difficult to wait! (((((Lainey & Son)))))

          • LaineyLainey says:

Hello Dear Friends: My step is a little lighter!! My son just sent me a text. He said they are in Zone B and are being asked at this time not to evacuate as their area is not prone to severe flooding. He says the bodegas are still open and he still has power. I am so relieved to hear from my little fella. Thank you all for the encouragement, It DID help. I went out to pick up lunch for me and one of my coworkers and PRAYED OUT LOUD in the car, when I got back to the office my phone was going off with him contacting me. YAY!!!! I know I’m a mess especially since Sandy hasn’t even really hit, yet. Thanks for putting up with my worry wart self! Praying for all who are in Sandy’s path. Gonna keep praying and praying til she dies or goes away!!!

            • not THAT Jill says:

Oh Thank God!! I wasn’t blowing smoke when I said it wasn’t bad here yet…just so you know…

              • LaineyLainey says:

Haha!! I figured as much….since you’re online. I do/did appreciate hearing that. I just wasn’t sure if he had been evacuated or …what. Keep checking in!!

            • Lisa Renee says:

LL, whew! been waiting all morning for that news. He will be fine. I have no clue how old he is but it really doesn’t matter. My mom told me that post Ivan waiting for me to contact her were some of the longest days of her life. She always said no news is good news and that helped her alot. Keeping good thoughts for all, Lisa

            • Oh thank goodness Lainey!! So good to hear. Don’t stop venting and posting as often as you need to! Love the “Prayed Out Loud” comment. Sometimes we need to shout out above all the other prayers a bit to get our voice out there!! Glad you were heard! Hugs!

            • Powell says:

              Yay LaineyLainey!!!

            • cocfarm says:

              Glad you got your call!

            • trudie says:

              What a relief!

    • LaineyLainey says:

You are all so great. I just got home and sent him a text asking him if the wind has picked up,;when I left the office the update I was checking said that winds were at 37 mph and they’ll max out at 47 mph by 11pm. Not sure how accurate that is. ANYWAY, he replied right away and said it was blowing but it had been blowing harder earlier. I just tried to be positive and encouraging. He said nothing else and I decided not to riddle him with questions. I figure like Lisa Renee’s mom says, no news is good news. If there were something wrong, he would have mentioned it. I’m just thankful that we can get through to each other to communicate. Oh and he’s 24 years old, hardly a baby. 🙂

      • Lisa Renee says:

LL, my kid is same age, too funny. Glad you can communicate 🙂 Remind him that most injuries happen post storm. Get some rest, he will be fine, Lisa

  25. cocfarm says:

Stay safe everyone. I can only imagine what the winds feel like out east. There are some ear chilling guts here in Chicago today.

I laughed so hard at the chips during tar. I thought it was cute when they said something about how the used their muscles but forgot to engage their brains. The the fall was a trip over the metal threshold to the fence gate they went through. I laughed but then Phil’s expression just cracked me up. The chips are endearing. The beekmans scared me and the twins are shrill. Good racing.

  26. Exit4 says:

Ok here. The shore however is getting pummeled by floods. The worst is yet to come!

  27. BB says:

Me checking in. It’s a little windier than earlier this morning, but not too bad. Still steady raining. The ground is definitely saturated. So far so good though. You guys to the north stay safe please.

  28. amalfi says:

Lauren Manzo’s dig about everyone over-hyping the hurricane was a dig against Gov. Christie for firing her dad.

What a dumb @ass. Sick as thieves. All of them.

Prayers to all in Sandy’s path.

  29. ItzAngieDuh says:

I love this blog family!! Everyone is looking out for everyone else-those of us on the west coast are experiencing the storm along with our east coast buddies. 30. princesspindy says:

Princess Pindy’s prayers and thoughts are with all of our East Coasters!!! Stay Safe!
    Happy Birthday AnotherLynn!!

Last night while deciding what to watch live, Good Wife or Revenge, Princess Pindy discovered that neither was available here in San Diego, bother!! Don’t know if it was the World Series or the Storm or what happened. Checked DVR this morning and only Good Wife recorded. 666 was on at 9pm instead of Revenge so only one minute of Revenge, the previews for next week recorded. Princess Pindy will have to check On Demand later. So Princess Pindy spent the evening and early morning watching Once Upon A Time. Princess Pindy watched episodes 7 -12. Princess Pindy feels the need to stress what a well done show this is and how much fun it is to figure out whom is whom, or who is who, or whom is who, or who is whom, lol!

And Princess Beanie Boo is at Legoland today, yea!!

So, as Sergeant Phil Esterhaus would say, Hey, let’s be careful out there.

    • lillybee says:

      You can see Revenge on

      • princesspindy says:

        kewl, thank you!!

        • Powell says:

Princess P I’m so glad Princess P is enjoying Revenge. I think it’s even better this season & it’s just getting started. Once Upon a Time shocked me last night. Frankenstein? That’s not a fairy tale but it’s a good addition to the story. 666 Park Ave is getting scarier. I missed the first part. ABC is good Sunday TV alright. 🙂

  31. Powell says:

Joanna does not need to drink out in public. She acts like a maniac. And Krissy you are so right. If everyone had minded their own beeswax Lisa’s party would’ve gone off w/o a fight in sight. Those of you that said it was Adriana that hits someone before the season began were right on the money. Remember at the reunion Adriana said she brought the heat so it wouldn’t be boring or whatever she said, I wonder did she do just that by hitting Joanna?

  32. Boobah says:

Checking in…it’s 2:42pm and the winds have been bad but now they are roaring. House is shaking. Not even sure if this is the worst of it. I am not exactly a happy camper and I don’t do well in storms. I decided to stay w/my parents which is only 10 miles from my house. My hubby is home with our fur kiddies. We lost power about 30 minutes ago.

    This sucks!

Oh, and I’m on the eastern end of Long Island. Good luck to everyone impacted by this beast.

    • Kansas Girl says:

It does indeed suck! Bethenny seems to be in Montauk and has tweeted photos of the surf. Seems to be a little breezy. (She said casually, totally minimizing the extent of the winds.) Hang on tight! This will be one everyone talks about for years.

      • BB says:

I wonder if Bethenny will make it to WWHL tonight or if they will even be able to do it.

        • Kansas Girl says:

I saw earlier she was worried because their Tribeca apartment was in the flood zone. I can’t imagine Montauk is a better choice. And if she’s to be on WWHL tonight, how would she get back? It makes no sense to me.

          • Boobah says:

BB and KG- Montauk is a terrible alternative to downtown NYC! WTF was she thinking?? I’m not sure about the south fork as the hamptons are affectionately called, but on the north fork the main road is closed. Houses near the bay have already taken on water. The high tides tonight will do much damage. So I doubt she will be able to do WWHL. There’s a road called Dune Road in the hamptons that is famous for it ocean front 20 million dollar houses (or more)….inevitably a storm like this just wipes them away. I would bet Dune Rd completely under water right now. Bethenny is not near Dune Rd nor would she have to take it to get back to the city but if our main rd is closed then i imagine the hamptons one major highway is closed in some areas as well.

Thats the crazy thing…each fork has one major thruway way to get to the end of Long Island. We have Rte 25 and they have Rte 24. So when the roads are closed your pretty much f**ked.

Geez, I just rambled. Perhaps I already have cabin fever….anyone know if incessant geographic roadway sputtering is a symptom?

            • Kansas Girl says:

I don’t think it is. And now I’m going to have to go look at the Bing maps again to see where you’re talking about!

              • Boobah says:

Lol. I know what you mean, whenever someone says something I always look it up. How did I survive without google?? Lol.

    • BB says:

Take care of yourself Boobah. Hopefully it won’t last long!

    • Powell says:

It’s good to see you Boobah. I hope all is well.

      • Boobah says:

Thanx Powell. Good to see u also. Forgive me stupidity, but aren’t u on Long Island also? I know I know this but my brain is misfiring from all the noisy wind.

    • LaineyLainey says:

HOw’s the wind now, Boobah? so curious. I hope you are well!!!

      • Boobah says:

Lol! I did get weird about the wind there didnt I?? Lol…seriously though it has picked up to 90 mph gusts if not a bit higher. I hate how damn loud it is! I feel like the wind is going to rip the side of the house off! And to think this is only a Cat 1 hurricane (the last I heard anyway).
Truthfully, I am an huge wimp when it comes to weather. I thought I be on my 100th panic attack but so far I’ve kept the anxiety down unless you consider squatted rocking movements with dull whimpers a sign a anxious distress. Kidding…kinda.

        • LaineyLainey says:

It’s amazing what you are all enduring, not weird at all. It’s also amazing that you still have power – –you’re still able to get online. It must be very, very scary. I am glued to THE WEATHER CHANNEL. The Storm Surge is what they’re all talking about now.

          • Boobah says:

We lost power a little after 2 o’clock this afternoon. I am using my cell phone. The battery is not going to last but chatting here is helping me feel calm.
The noise of the wind is driving me bonkers. Yes, bonkers I tell you! Every time I try to go to sleep the gusts pick up! I just pray everyone is safe.

  33. Sus says:

Wind is howling here but so far so good.

I wrote Lisa a note on her webpage respectfully asking that she re-think her support of SGK. I also asked that she re-think having a lingerie party in the name of breast cancer. There are many ways to have a breast cancer event that doesn’t have to include lingerie. We’ll see if I hear anything from her about it.

Joanna rubs me the wrong way. I don’t like her. She’s obnoxious. I am not a fan of PETA because of their extremism.

    Be safe everyone.

    • BB says:

Sus. I thought of you when I read the attached article. It’s not exactly what you were talking about, but thought you might be interested in reading it.

    • djprincessc says:

I don’t like Peta either Sus. Agree with you.

    • melthehound says:

What exactly is your issue with this charity? Is it that you believe it is no longer a charity or perhaps never was? I understood the Stage IV vs Lingerie thing but does it go further than that? In looking, it appears that only about 6% of donations go to help with treatment. A lot of administrative costs (my main issue with most charities) some for research, etc.

      Just curious.

      • Sus says:

SGK is all about “awareness”. Being aware doesn’t save you from breast cancer. Being aware doesn’t save you from all the debilitating and disfiguring medical treatment. The organization is lying when they say “early detection” will save you. “Early detection” does nothing to save you from your cancer coming back.

When Stage 4 breast cancer people try to join the SGK’s walks, they are turned away because that ruins the image that “pink” is winning.

Not one more penny should be spent on “awareness”. Money needs to be spent on research and taking care of uninsured people who can’t afford their treatments.

It isn’t just SGK I have a problem with. It’s all the “Save the Tatas”, “Save Second Base”, “I love Boobies” that incur my wrath too. Saving my figure was the last thing I was thinking about when diagnosed. I’m worried I won’t be here for my daughter’s high school graduation.

SGK does deserve some credit this Pinktober. They turned down a porn’s site donation. The porn site is giving 1 penny for every 30 views of porn videos in their “small tits” and “big tits” categories. They are making the donation as a vehicle to get free publicity for themselves. It’s absolutely disgusting.

      • Sus says:

One more thing about SGK. If they were truly concerned about breast cancer and not their profits, they wouldn’t sell things in the name of breast cancer that have cancer causing ingredients. Their perfume that is $50 a bottle has cancer causing chemicals in it. Their water bottles have BPA which has been connected to cancer.

      • melthehound says:

I see. I wondered if there was a personal element of it for you but didn’t want to ask. I’m sorry you have that connection. You are correct though. Awareness cures nothing and there is nothing pretty or pink about the disease.

        • Sus says:

          Thank you Mel 🙂

          • contessa says:

Sus, Thank you for enlightening us about this. I am thinking this is not what SGK stood for in the beginning. It has grown into an organization with high salaries. I think they should hire women with breast cancer and they will put them on the straight and narrow in a minute. I am with you on the giving directly to people who need it. My sister had a double mastectomy 2 years ago, and I decided there and then it would only be with personal fundraisers, for those in need that are not insured or who need help one way or another. I am appalled they will not let stage 4 cancer patients join the walking ranks. This makes me f’ing mad!!! You are truly a hero for putting it front and center, my applause and admiration and love!

  34. princesspindy says:

Anderson Cooper’s talk show was cancelled. It’s all Teresa’s fault!!!

    • amalfi says:

It was the biggest favor anyone could’ve done for him. I prefer Anderson reputable and reporting on revolutions and natural disasters — with only a teeny glimpse of his crazy obsession with Honey Boo Boo from his wacked out friends like Kathy Griffin..

      • princesspindy says:

        So true!

      • You know amalfi…I agree. I have always respected him as a journalist/reporter, then this show came up and knocked his cred a bit. I wonder if his BFF Andy talked him into doing the show, or encouraged him. I think he is best at his other show. Some things like this are a blessing!

      • Sus says:

I wish Anderson’s 8:00 pm show was on during the day. His day time show was hit and miss for me. I do love his night time show but don’t watch it every night.

    • cocfarm says:

I lost respect for him when I saw how pandering he was. I really admired him as well when he was a newscaster, in particular, his coverage of Katrina.

  35. AZGirl says:

Pictures coming in on MSNBC from Atlantic City do not look good. Hurricane has not even landed yet and flooding is terrible. New Jersey and VA is really bad also. Please be safe everyone. Keep checking in.

  36. Kansas Girl says:

I can’t figure out a way to post them here, but the Photoshopping is going crazy with this storm. I’ve seen Godzilla in the surf. Now someone has Lady Liberty down off her pedestal and peeking around the bottom, hiding from the storm. LOL. People are crazy!

  37. boston02127 says:

It’s sooooo windy & scary outside. I pulled (squeezed) my VW under the back porch. I could barely get out. I have a big head! I may be black & blue for a while or may have lost an ear somewhere in the front seat but hopefully my car is safe from damage.

The ocean is wild & beautiful. I can’t believe we still have power (knock wood). I hope everyone is staying safe.

Crane on to floor of highrise dangling over the side in mid-town Manhattan.

    • AZGirl says:

      on “top floor” not “to”

        • Kansas Girl says:

OK, that photo made me laugh in an inappropriate way.

Why on earth would they leave these cranes up there in high winds!

          • not THAT Jill says:

That type of crane can not be taken down…I asked my husband why the hell it is still up. It becomes part of the building structure-all that scaffolding and the crane are all part of the building now. I hope all of the people that were standing around looking at have smartened up and moved the hell on!!!

            • melthehound says:

I would think that if it could be put up, it could be taken down but you’d need another crane to do it.

              • Orson says:

Tower cranes sort of assemble and disassemble themself. And least the vertical part once the first 2 sections and the top cross section is set up. But it’s quite tedious and isn’t a fast procedure.

                • amalfi says:

This is true. They build it up there and it aids in its own construction. They evacuated the hotel next door. There is no good in most of this…. hope everyone stays safe.

  39. not THAT Jill says:

Where are all the Jersey people-how are you all holding up?? Show this storm how tough Jersey girls are!!!!
New York is waiting…bracing for the worst…
BB-saw some pic of OBX-not as bad as it could have been but still took a hit. Hope everyone in VA is okay and hopefully the worst is over for you guys.

    • Nancy says:

      Hi Jill,
I just spoke to my bff that lives in NJ and she said not much is happening.
I have a feeling that, that won’t last long.

    • lori says:

I’m in N/NJ and it’s starting to rain a bit harder and the wind is bad. There are gusts of wind that making the tall trees seriously sway. Still have power but we always lose power when the wind is bad so not holding out much hope it will last.

  40. amalfi says:

I can’t feel sorry for the warrior reporters standing in 80mph winds anymore. It is beyond stupid.

    • Nancy says:

Whenever I see that I always think…”I wonder what they did to piss their boss off?” lol

    • Powell says:

amalfi I’ve been watching and saying “ok. Now go inside”. It’s too scary.

    • cocfarm says:

I think They lack what it takes to climb everest, so this is their adrenalin outlet.

      • amalfi says:

lol. I think they have ropes tied at the waist. And Powell – me too! But I suppose none of them have blown away or been killed. Yet.

It must bring in the ratings – news is a business after all.

  41. BB says:

Well, VA sure has their priorities straight. This is taken from a local article:

“State offices were closed Monday and a decision on whether they’ll be open tomorrow will be made later this afternoon.

There is a noteworthy exception: Most of Virginia’s 330-plus state liquor stores are open if people want to buy a bottle to warm them from the cold outside.”

My youngest lives in the southwestern part of VA and their are in the middle of a snow storm. Crazy,

    • LaineyLainey says:

BB – what a great article – my favorite part:
“That’s bonkers. And we can’t even get into Karent, a woman who is so insane that she has a parasitic “T” living on the end of her name and won’t do anything about it.”

  42. Exit4 says:

Due to hit between Cape May and AC within the hour. Philly suburbs getting the wind-the trees are blowing like crazy! Sandys knocking on the door! Still safe and still have power! Hope it stays that way. Hoping for word of the shore place by tomorrow. But um sure we will have some damage as the storm is hitting at high tide AND during a full moon!

Is this the universe punishing us for Snooki? Lol

  43. BB says:

This is a neat video of damage to the Avalon Pier in the Outer Banks. My house there is about a mile down the road and about 1/2 mile inland from it.

    • BB says:

The videos are below that live camera shot. The second one from the left is the one I’m talking about.

      • LaineyLainey says:

I see it. That looks bad. Will there be any of it left when Sandy hits?

        • BB says:

I believe the worst of Sandy has come and gone for the Outer Banks. They will still be dealing with high tide flooding issues and rain and such, but I think the worst has happened. At least I hope so. This isn’t the first time the Avalon Pier has been damaged either.

  44. klmh says:

NMD and all, thank you for keeping the blog going.

Im hoping all on the east coast in inland remain safe. Thinking of you…

And MTH, thanks for the link above for the Downton Abbey series.

  45. ramonacoaster says:

A big tree just fell on the street down the block. I noticed the firemen’s lights outside and investigated. They’re using chainsaws to remove the tree. It’s going to be a big mess to clean up. All the fall foliage might be gone.

    • Kansas Girl says:

Amazing they got there so quickly and are cleaning it up. I would think they’d wait till the storm passed.

      • BB says:

That’s what would happen where I live Kansas. We had a huge tree fall across our street in a big snow storm and it was days before they came and moved it. We were trapped as it was the only way out of the neighborhood. If we wanted to go anywhere, relatives would have to drive over and we would have to walk down and meet them past the fallen tree.

  46. Just checking in. Glad some of you report it is not as bad as thought for you. Tho, news reports say the worst will come tonight. I forgot about the full moon, which affects the tides.

Hang in there… is all around you! I’ll check back later. ❤

  47. Exit4 says:

She’s here! hatches are battened down!

  48. Eastbayca says:

    • Powell says:

Sandy is taking a lot of people’s place on TV tonight. Jimmy Kimmel is in NYC to do his show live from Brooklyn thus week. He was on GMA and Kelly & Michael this AM. Tonight’s live show is cancelled. Letterman & Jimmy Fallon won’t have a live audience. Jimmy Fallon sent his live audience home.

  49. LavaLady says:

Another report from Northern New Jersey. The storm is raging here. Windy, rainy, power outages, trees down, the whole nine yards. No school again tomorrow. I’m listening to Gov. Christie and he is p*ssed that not everyone evacuated Altantic City (which is in very southern New Jersey). Seems as if the landfall will be in Altantic City. They are planning to do no rescues there tonight; nothing until 7am. So basically you’re on your own, if you choose to stay there. Pretty tough stuff from our governor.

No word on our beach house, also located in southern New Jersey. Not looking good, but no way to find out as the town was evacuated and no one we know stayed. LavaSon and LavaDaughter and LavaMan all safe and sound, and thats what counts.

Just in the last 10 mins the winds seem to have picked up even more and the lights are flickering. Hope everyone in Sandys path is safe!

    • Boobah says:

Hang in there LavaLady! Glad that ur fam is safe- that is what matters most. But I sure hope ur shore house stands strong.

  50. contessa says:

Wishing I could bring everyone down to Arizona from the East Coast. Looking at all the photos and am worrying for all. Praying that everyone stays safe.

    • AZGirl says:

With you 100% Contessa. Do you think we both will have enough room? I have a huge yard. Lots of tents. Anyone is welcomed.

      • contessa says:

I have a smaller house than yours I’m sure (there’s only me) but we can certainly overload plenty and meet halfway for a cookout – on beeline?

        • AZGirl says:

          Lost Dutchman’s State Park!

          • djprincessc says:

I’m in Southern California and its 5:15p and 70 degrees. I had no idea until about yesterday afternoon that there was a horrible storm on the east coast, its been so hot, dr and miserable here!! I wish the storm would send a few sprinkles this way! Hope all you ladies stay safe, I had no idea how huge it was! ❤

  51. not THAT Jill says:

Things are really picking up here…wind wind and more wind. Thank god my husband is home!!
    Stay safe everyone!!!!

  52. Exit4 says:

I love the big man-Chris Christie but he just walked into a landline here. He’s mad at the mayor of AC because he had people go to shelters instead of leave. Now the shelters are flooded and he won’t send in anyone to help. Here’s the problem, AC unlike its neighboring towns where I go, is more if a year round community. 30,000 people. The neighboring towns are mostly seasonal second homes and year round retirees. So, it may get ugly.

Here’s the problem. For those of you unfamiliar with AC, it is primarily African American. And poor. Locals know you don’t cross a certain point. If God forbid people die b/c no one helped them….we have another Katrina situation here. Oh and the mayor of AC that he called out? He’s black too.

    • LavaLady says:

From what I can gather from the news conference going on right now, Gov. C. feels the Mayor of AC contradicted his orders to evacuate, and told people it was ok to stay. There’s a shelter that flooded; it was only a few blocks from the ocean. This will be interesting to follow in the next few days. Gov. C saying the mayor of AC didn’t do his job.

    • Eastbayca says:

The question should be why were the shelters set up in an area of possible flood and who picked up such locations?

    • amalfi says:

I am not sure how the state of NJ can rescue anyone in the midst of a hurricane without causing imminent harm to first responders.

He only said that there could be no help until 7am. But he is a very curt man. If I had to make that decision, I wouldn’t use it as an opportunity to chastise anyone — later maybe but not at the crescendo of the storm.

      • MamaZ says:

The problem with evacuating AC is similar to evacuating NOLA during Katrina. It takes $ and transportation to leave. Not everyone has a friend or relative they can stay with and hotel/motel bills can add up fast for an extended stay. Even if you have an inexpensive or free place to stay you have to be able to get there. Not everyone owns a car or a car big enough to transport all the family and pets. The elderly and sick can’t always make the trip. I know someone who had a heart attack while evacuating FLA during a hurricane once. He lived but it was a close call and terrifying for his family.

        • amalfi says:

I think they were encouraged to go to shelters within the city instead of shelters outside the city. I could be wrong… sad all around. It looks like what set the Gov. off is that there was some assurance that it was ok to stay there at ground zero when he requested otherwise,

        • Nancy says:

Isn’t that the truth. Everyone thinks it’s so easy to just leave. I wonder how the hospitals
          are dealing with the storm?

        • AZGirl says:

You are right Mamaz. That was one of the problems with Katrina. Some of the poor have no where to go or the means to do so. If there was a problem there was time for the mayor to ask for assistance from the state. Sandy has been hanging out on the ocean for a while and the project landfall was spot on. Let’s just pray and hope all are safe in AC

          • melthehound says:

Well, Hurricanes don’t just show up. There’s usually several days warning before they hit land. The problem with Katrina wasn’t the storm but the resulting broken levies. While there may not have been a permanent place for people to stay, Just Away, might have been a good idea. City and state officials have access to things like school buses and the like if there is a need to get a large number of people out of the way of the storm. Many of those deaths, didn’t need to happen.

          • BB says:

I agree that it’s not like people in charge of their citizens’ safety were taken by surprise by this storm. Forecasters have been talking about this for over a week. We’ve (my husband and I) been preparing for it since last week. And I know the resources are scarce and municipalities don’t want to waste money needlessly, but they should know what their citizens need in case of evacuation (transportation, resources, shelter) and plan accordingly. I hope nobody has to die because of poor planning on the part of the leaders of their city. Sometimes death and injury can’t be prevented no matter how much you plan ahead, but this doesn’t sound like the case here.

  53. Well – here in Northern MD, it winds are picking up and the howling doesn’t stop – ebbs and wanes, but it doesn’t go way – nice, big gusts every once in a while. Every once in a while something hits the house, but nothing big. I hope that all the neighbors have put all their yard items away.

The rain has been steady all day, but seems to be getting a little heavier. For me, I’m noticing the drop in the temperature.

Luckily, we still have electricity. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I hope all of you folks caught in the storm stay safe! You’re definitely in my prayers.

  54. BB says:

The worst of our flooding is over in southeast VA. We may still experience some power outages, but that’s it. Thank goodness. Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you guys up north that things will happen quickly and the damage will be minimal.

    • Kansas Girl says:

Think we can put you on the “storm is past” list?

    • Powell says:

BB I just can’t wait for the night to pass. I think it’ll be turning good once we get thru the night.

      • boston02127 says:

I cant wait for the night to be over too. It’s scary.

        • Nancy says:

Is your fiance with you or is he at work?
Hang in there boston. Your dogs are there. 🙂

        • BB says:

Hang in there ladies. This is a cute video. Something one of my dogs would do.

        • cocfarm says:

It is I’m sure, but try to look at it as an adventure. Document it in your fun way Boston. Keep yourself busy and this might be something you tell your kids about someday. You Aren’t alone. We are here for you.

        • LaineyLainey says:

I was thinking the same thing…I can’t wait for this night be over!! Hang in there!! I’m stress eating. Let’s see 2 rice, bean and cheese soft tacos when I got home and now I’m eating the last of my daughter’s stash of ice cream. chomp chomp chomp…it’s not making the time go by faster!!! no more eating after the ice cream. It doesn’t help that my husband isn’t home – – he decided to go spend time with his dad, who’s been ill before his new job starts.

          • cocfarm says:

My nephew and his wife live in Pennsylvania. I emailed to make sure they were ready and they reported back that tthey were fully stocked with ice cream and wine. I think it may be a theme to eat what ever the heck you want!

    • Christi44 says:

BB, glad to hear you are well. We are doing fine here. No school tomorrow. They say we have the biggest chance of damage here between 7PM and 2AM as the storm wraps around and comes back down, but nothing like what they are getting further north. I have been talking with family all day because my parents decided to be dumb and went to Nantucket, Thursday of last week. They got the last ferry off the island yesterday and are now staying with my uncle right on the water in Newport. They have been texting pictures and generally worrying me to death. My son said, “Am I seriously related to these people?” Anyway, hope all is well and praying for all in the areas feeling the most effects of the storm.

    • LaineyLainey says:

      Really? that’s great, BB!!

    • Boobah says:

That’s good news BB! Hopefully the power outages are rectified promptly.

  55. boston02127 says:

Lauren Manzo’s tweet~~~~~Powers out! Loving our generator!

I tweeted to her~~~~~~@Laurenmanzo Hey Lauren, How about this…. God help all those who don’t have as much as I do. #rhonj

She just tweeted this~~~~~~Building in Chelsea on 14th & 8th partially collapsed…so scary- hope everyone’s ok

Maybe she just needs to be reminded to be nice?

    • BB says:

Boston. It’s obvious Lauren Manzo has never wanted for anything in her life. She’s probably never had any hardship (outside of being overweight and even mommy and daddy solved that for her). Heaven forbid if the girl is ever in desparate straits or had to really work hard for just the basic things in life. I feel sorry for her and her lack of compassion. She’s missing a lot in life in my opinion. Accomplishing things on your own has great rewards that she will probably never experience.

      • djprincessc says:

I love what you wrote BB! I totally agree! I’m a few years older than Lauren and think she wouldn’t know what to do with herself if she had to go through hard times. I can KIND OF relate to her (even though I think she’s a lazy, miserable girl and can’t stand her) bc I’m an only child and was pretty spoiled growing up until I was about 22. Although I have been working since I was 17 and always paid for all my bills and such, but my mom at around that age started having more and more health problems and then later my dad lost his job and things changed A LOT. I was never the way lauren is in the slightest because I have accomplished a lot of things without my parents and believe in hard work, but maybe one day something will happen to her or she’ll experience something and then she’ll see how things can change like night and day.

        • BB says:

I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s health problems and dad’s employment. Sounds like you have your head on pretty straight even at your young age. I don’t blame Lauren entirely, but she’s an adult now and needs to act like one. All parents want the best for their kids, but there’s a point where you’re not doing them any favors by handing them everything on a silver platter. You’re hurting them more than helping them.

          • djprincessc says:

Thanks BB, its true, life can change out of nowhere. And her family definitely hasn’t done her any favors in being self sufficient.

        • LaineyLainey says:

Oh DjPrincess – you are so very right. Circumstances can and do change throughout our lives. It’s the only thing that stays the same…CHANGE!!! It’s not always for the better, either. But with a strong foundation we can get through anything. There’s a saying: We can’t savor joy if we’ve never tasted sorrow. Something like that.

  57. Nancy says:

    Go 49ers! 🙂

  58. Cusi77 says:

How are you, Westcoasters? Sending prayers your way?

    • Nancy says:

      Hi Cusi,
      How was your trip?
I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for my relatives to call from Anguilla.
They finally called so I can breath again. 🙂

      • cusi77 says:

It was really nice, my Nancy. The love tank is full.

I will send an Email to Wsl, it seems that Manhattan is flooded….

        • Nancy says:

Well that’s nice to hear Cusi. 🙂
Say hi to WSL for me. Stay safe as your town might be getting a lot of rain and wind too.

  59. JustDee says:

Hugss and Prayers to everyone in the NE.
Everyone checking in seems to be in good spirits all things considered!

Don’t forget if you’re on twitter you can search #[your state abbreviation]WX for up to the minute updates. (Ex: New Jersey would be #NJWX)

    • amalfi says:

I used it for PA yesterday. Were you the one who posted that here? It is very helpful.

    • BB says:

Thanks JustDee. Hope today was more relaxing than yesterday. Did your mom take it easy on you today?

      • JustDee says:

Mom flew back to Jacksonville this morning so I’m on my own til tomorrow night. Whew. (I’m at her house in Ft Lauderdale). I managed to get a lot done ALL BY MYSELF, lol.

  60. ramonacoaster says:

Hope everyone is alright so far. My neighbor’s big oak tree fell. Glad it didn’t fall on someone’s house. Didn’t hear a crash, just a popping sound. Weird, huh?

  61. Hi All – hope you are safe. Manhattan just lost power if my twitter feed is reliable.

    • amalfi says:

      Manhattan is a mess.

      • Nancy says:

If sea water enters the subways etc I think it will be a nightmere there in NY for a very long time. Do you live there? If yes stay safe.
I hope all the animals are getting taken care of out there.

        • Orson says:

Pumping out the subways cannot be much fun.

        • amalfi says:

I do not live in Manhattan, but some family and close friends are there. They are expecting the salt water in the subway to be devastating. Not like ordinary rain floods.

          • Nancy says:

Exactly. I hope your family members and friends are safe.

            • amalfi says:

Thanks Nancy… I hope so too.

It’s like some Hollywood disaster movie sadly. It is intriguing and interesting to me in many ways, but it’s hard to appreciate the statistically rare science of it all when seeing the destruction it has reaped so far.

  62. WindyCityWondering says:

There were folks surfing on Lake Michigan today!

  63. AZGirl says:

From the weather reports Sandy went more northwest than up the coast which has me worried with the cold front moving in from the north. Of course the “spiral” of the hurricane has not stopped so southern NJ is still getting hit.

Please keep in touch. This is a doozy

  64. not That Jill says:

Power out for the last couple of hours-we have a small generator to power a few lamps and charge electronics-hope all my fellow east coasters are hold up!!! I will be happy to see Sandy go!!!

  65. princesspindy says:

Just heard from hubby, his brother is in Monroe, NY and 2 trees fell on to the neighbors house and they are without power. Sliding doors are crashing in and they are hunkered down in the basement. Hubby said his brother was sounded scared. He also said that you can not believe the sound that a full grown tree makes when it snaps, he will never forget it.

    • LaineyLainey says:

We, as mere humans, are so small and helpless in contrast to the power of mother nature. Glad they are safe, so far. Keep us posted about your brother in law.

    • BB says:

Sounds scary Especially if you’ve never experienced anything like that before. Hope they’ll be OK. I hope it’s all over soon everywhere. I know the aftermath won’t but I hope the storm is over soon.

    • Boobah says:

PrincessPindy- that just scared the bejesus outta me! I am sorry about that happening to ur BIL. He must be scared as hell! The snapping of trees can rattle a person to their core.
How are you doing? I read that ur daughter is at. LegoLand? I hope that means she’s on the mend and it stays that way.

  66. cocfarm says:

For those of you who are Chicagoans, even though this storm will effect us very little compared to our friends out east, this is a great service to sign up for to get alerts:

They even give alerts for traffic if you want them. The weather alerts are so helpful.

  67. BB says:

I’m turning in guys. Before I go to sleep, there will be a prayer said for the safety of all who are experiencing the wrath of Sandy. Good night.

haha they just showed that clip of danielle singing on WWHL. who would have ever thought she’d be the best singer to come from the franchises (minus kandi of course)

  69. Exit4 says:

Ok here. Dreading waking up to the damage at the shore tomorrow. We really got slammed down in the AC area. Got a few videos via Facebook and the waves at the beach i sit on are breaking ON THE STREET!!!! The shoreline is in the damn street! So insane! I think it weakened quickly when it hit land, because there is a sigh of relief. It was supposed to be worse and I can’t imagine because it was pretty bad!

  70. California35 says:

    Finally home, home sweet home,

What I missed ? Madona in Ellen, Bethenny in WWHL, and I still have shows from last night. I will try the good wife and revange tonight.

  71. Nancy says:

Sorry AZGirl. I’m telling you that the 49ers can’t be beat. 🙂

  72. Kansas Girl says:

I got an email from Butterisafruit. She’s ok, but it’s still storming. She said a tree fell across her road and the neighbors called it in. All she knew was that there was a thump when the lines pulled off the house. The fire dept came out to check on her and the electric company has her on the reconnect list for soon. She’s got her wood-burning stove going, sterno for food, and lots of knitting to work on. She said this storm sounds different from others — the wind is more of a constant blare. But she’s doing fine.
