Lauren Foster was in episode 11 of the Real Housewives of Miami and uttered a one liner that went viral, ”I won’t be bullied by that housewife with a wiener!”

Lauren graciously agreed to an interview for our blog to answer questions that ranged from her relationship with the other cast members to being a trailblazer for the transgender community.

Lauren grew up in South Africa in the 1960′s and is today one of the world’s most recognized transsexual women.  After undergoing sex reassignment surgery at 18, she embarked an international modeling career, becoming the “It girl for the transgender community” (Holly Woodlawn).

More on Lauren can be found in this interview with the Huffington Post.

“Lauren is a beautiful, passionate and smart woman who has not only helped our organization, but our entire community,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. “Bravo has long had its pulse on pop culture and we hope to see more of Lauren on their Real Housewives franchise. We think it would be a powerful decision for them to include her and represent all women, including those who are transgender.”

Below is my interview with Lauren Foster.  NMD

Q. You were part of a drama-filled scene on the Real Housewives of Miami where Elaine Lancaster confronted Marysol Patton. Your initial reaction was to walk away, saying, “I can’t be part of this. It is so unladylike.” Can you tell me what was going through your mind at that moment?

A. I was a bit taken aback by the turn of events and a little scared by what had happened off camera. The camera does not show what had just occurred. I didn’t want to be a part of something that could get out of hand. This was my opportunity to get away from anything that could turn ugly.

Q. On Twitter you’ve said that you are Marysol Patton’s BFF. Were you attending the event with her? How long have you known her?

A. Yes, I consider Marysol to be one of my dearest friends. She is like a sister to me.  We have been close for about 3 years. I was originally invited to the lunch on Star Island by Lisa Pliner but went with Marysol. We have a lot of fun together. She’s the ideal girlfriend to hit the town with. I don’t drive, so we went together.

Q. There are pictures of you with Ana Quincoces on your Facebook page. How long have you known her?

A. I have formed a close relationship with Ana since the show started filming its second season. All 3 ladies (Marysol, Ana & Alexia) came to New York a few months ago to support a GLAAD event that we hosted together. They are elegant, gracious women who support the LGBT community. I’m honored to be close with them.

Q. After Marysol walked away, Elaine chased her down to continue the confrontation. This time you stayed by Marysol’s side, and even got a few words in of your own with Elaine, after Elaine said, “No one wants you here, Lauren.” How well do you know Elaine Lancaster? Do you two have a history?

A. Firstly, everyone knew I was coming, including the producer. Please, we were wired like mafia rats! He was the person who didn’t want me there because he knew that I would defend Marysol. I originally met James in the 90′s when we hired him to perform at “Snowball”, one of the events Jeffrey Sanker produced, during White Party Week. I worked with Jeffrey for over 10 years. I’ve known James/Elaine since then but our friendship always seems to be in some form of “Purgatory.” We both misunderstand each other a lot. We always figure things out and I wish him the best.

Q. You had the best line of the show. “I won’t be bullied by that housewife with a wiener!” I’m curious why you called Elaine a housewife. Was it known at that time who the cast of the show would be?

A. Some times my brain works faster than I would like and my filters take a vacation. Social media is fiercely viral and that line has taken on a life of it’s own. More than I would like. Yes, the cast was known at the time of filming. I don’t know if James/Elaine is an official part of the cast. He appears often on the show.

Q. I consider the Bravo network socially progressive. You are considered one of the world’s most recognizable transsexual women. Do you think the Housewives Franchise would be a good platform to bring transgender issues to a national audience? Would you consider joining the show as a cast member?

A.  The producers (Purveyors of Pop), the Bravo network and Andy Cohen have an extraordinary positive vision for the American viewing audience and it is exciting to have been part of it. As the first transgender woman on the Housewives Franchise, I have been approached by journalists to speak about the experience and overwhelmed with responses on Twitter and other social media sites, commending my appearance and seeing it as a step in the right direction. I realize I can use this platform to educate and help bring about LGBT awareness. I guess my answer is a resounding “Yes. I think the Housewives Franchise would be an excellent platform to bring transgender issues to a national audience.” I am proud to say that I will be working with GLAAD, and their president, Herndon Graddick, on some new initiatives. I would be honored to be a cast member.

Q. Will we be seeing you on any future episodes of the Real Housewives of Miami?

A. I only filmed one additional scene, at the 10 year anniversary of The Patton Group. I think that is 2 episodes away. I think there are 4 more episodes from this season.

Q. How do you feel you were portrayed? Was that the real Lauren Foster we saw on the show?

A. I feel it was the real me, yes. I forgot I had a mic inside that little Chanel dress so a few comments fell out of my mouth that would normally have been reserved for a closed conversation. I can be a little wicked but it is always delivered with a dash of glamour and a smile.

Q. What’s next for Lauren Foster? Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

A. I have been the Director of Media Relations for The Miami Institute for Age Management and Intervention for 9 years now. I moved from New York when I was offered the position by the founders, Steve Watson and Dr Julio Gallo. It’s an exciting place to work. They are true visionaries. Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you.

  3. TexasTart says:

Very good questions, NMD and all the replies seem so very honest. A little puzzling about the first answer. From what I remember seeing I thought Elaine was overwhelmingly agressive and hoovering over Marysol. I wonder if perhaps Lauren was vaguely alluding to she feared that would get physical?! IDK, but it was left open to imagine IMO.
