Here we go.. The show opens with the fans being taken to their destination via a boat. The returning suspects are arriving in two helicopters. The producers introduce each of the favorites and show us how it was they got sent home the last time they were on or what it is that cost them the game (Malcom couldn’t complete the hold the stick together thingy (Did I just say that?) and Skupin won immunity guaranteeing him the spot in the final 3). Of course, we meet the newbies as well (I wish it was ALL newbies) but I don’t care much about any of them yet because I don’t know who they are.
The first to arrive to their destination is the Gota (fans) tribe. On the way the producers show us all the dangerous animals in, I assume the lagoon (but probably not). Probst greets them on their mat and tells them they are about to meet their opponents. The copters land and dust up the ‘fans’ pretty good on the beach and then as each steps out they are introduced. Probst hands them their buffs (Gota- Orange, Bikal (faves) Purple. It’s already challenge time (they have to get their stuff)
The game involves two tribe members racing out to a pole holding a ring and then racing back to the flag pole while two members from the other tribe try to stop them and I assume steal the ring.. The first tribe member to reach their flag pole with the ring and grab the pole, wins a point. 4 points needed to win, the reward, is Fire. Probst notes that the returning suspects knows how important that is in the game. The winning tribe also gets 20 pounds of beans, that the others will not have. The challenge takes place entirely in the water and Probst tells them to figure out what they are going to wear. Already I’m thinking this isn’t going to be pretty. Let’s see what happens, Shall we?
One man one woman from each tribe at a time. For Bikal, Erik and Dawn, for Goto, Julia and Shamar. Out of the gate, Erik takes off like a bat out of hell and is the first to grab the ring. Now he has to get it back but he has to go through Shamar (not going to happen, he’s a big boy) so he tosses the ring to the other end of the court. Dawn and Julia are after it but Julia gets it first. Dawn manages to knock it away from her and it’s up for grabs again. Shamar reaches it first and gets to the flagpole with it. One point Goto, Bikal, zippo. Next round. Hope and Eddie (Goto) vs Brandon and Andrea (Bikal) (Brandon wants to tackle somebody). Okay, I thought only one could go to the pole with the ring. Not true. As long as a player has hold of the ring, and the pole, they get a point. When they begin the round, it is Eddie who reaches the ring first and he launches it down court. I think I would have my partner waiting there for it but that would only work once. At one point, all 4 have hold of the ring and it’s a wrestling tug of war to get to one pole or another. It is Andrea who manages it first so now the score is 1:1.
Third round.. Sherri and Michael for Goto, Brenda and Phillip for Bikal.. Ummmm, Couldn’t Phillip have brought a swimsuit? Is it really necessary that he stand there in his pink tighty whities? I fear what is to come from this guy (Blue Speedo anyone?– Okay I won’t mention that again).. It is Michael that gets to it first. Phillip is there waiting for him when he starts to come back and it is those two who are wrestling to the flag poles. Meanwhile Sherri and Brenda are in their own match to help their teammate. In the midst of all this, Shamar hollers out ‘Break her wrist!’. That stops Probst in his play by play as he says ‘WHAT?’ Shamar tries to correct himself by telling Probst he meant break the wrist hold. I guess that satisfied him because we get back to the action (I think it was a bitch thing for Shamar to say).. Back at the ring, All 4 have hold of it. Phillip lets go of it and instead, grabs Micheal’s leg and begins pulling the entire bunch toward Bikal’s flagpole and when he’s close enough he grabs the ring, puts his hand on the pole, claiming the second point for Bikal (faves). Round 4.. Matt and Laura vs Cochran and Francesca.. All 4 just walk through the water to get to the ring. Fran (I’m going to call her this for the duration) and Matt proceed ahead while Cochran and Laura stay behind to fight it out. Matt is basically allowed to take the ring and Fran begins her challenge to him. Then again, all 4 are on the ring tugging it down to the flagpoles. Even Cochran is in on it. They get down there and it is Fran who reaches the flagpole first. Score, 3 to 1..
Round 5.. Malcom and Corrine vs Reynold and Allie.. Faves need one to win, fans need 3 (I hope this doesn’t go on 3 more rounds).. Malcom and Reynold both take off like bats out of hell sprinting to the ring pole. Reynold gets it first and tries to toss it to the women. Malcom blocks the through with a flying cross body move (wrestling fans know what that is).. So the two of them are fighting for it and at some point the women add their best to this fight. It is Malcom that reaches the flagpole first and wins the 4th point for his team. Oh yes, Both fellas lost their shorts in this fight. Reynold is going to give Malcom a Serious run for his money. The reward is handed out and each team is sent to their camps to begin on the shelters. I’ll say this, the fans didn’t lose for lack of effort but, that’s the way it goes. One wins, one loses.
Okay, it is now officially day 1. The tribes get to their camps, Goto is shown first and they are greeted with a machete and rice but their water is almost gone for some reason (one canteen). Probst told them to go back and build the shelter but they also need fire to boil water. Matt right away begins on the shelter and others begin to help him. Shamar (the Ex Marine Iraq veteran) doesn’t think that’s needed right now. He thinks it’s more important to get a fire going but is doing Nothing to get that done (Don’t combat Marines know how to rub a couple sticks together creating friction for enough heat to ignite a flame in some kindling? It may be some serious physical work for a few minutes but shouldn’t be that difficult for an ex-marine to handle if fire is what he wants). Already, I’m thinking Shamar is going to be one of those lazy phucks who thinks everyone else should carry His weight and thinks his brawn is going to intimidate everyone in to doing it. I say, Shamar doesn’t eat that night. While they are arguing about who should do what and what should be done, Shamar tells Matt to shut up. Shamar in the end though finally gets off of his ass and helps them build fire but, only after watching them do it wrong for quite some time.
Over on the other side, things are going pretty smooth and there is more alliance and strategery talk shown than getting things put together. Phillip (somebody please give that man some swim trunks or something to cover those pink drawrs.) says he’s playing a Boston Rob type game. He sets his alliance and a couple others so he has a place to jump to. The Goto tribe is doing about the same thing now that they have themselves sort of squared away. I’m not going to go into who is with who because very few alliances survive the first tribal council. Besides, some are just kind of feeling their way around their groups to see where everybody is at. On the Goto tribe, there are quite a number of braggarts. These are usually the first to go. Cochran is roasted bright red. Dude should have brought some sun block, he should know better than anyone how quickly gingers burn. Also worth noting, that while sleeping on night 2, Reynold and Allie appear to be hooking up. This doesn’t go unnoticed by the others and I think at one point I saw him grope her chesticle. You know, while they were all huddled together to stay warm..
Immunity Challenge time.. The object is, for 2 from each team go up a floor at a time on the tower. Once both team members are there, they are to toss 3 crates holding sandbags over the edge to bust the crates open. Then they slide down a pole, go back to their mat, next pair goes. Once all 12 crates are over the edge, the remaining 2 members of the tribe, collects the sand bags and they must toss one in to each of 6 holes. First tribe to do so, wins immunity. Also, if the Fans win, they will receive fire.
Okay just the highlights. The first 4 pairs go for each tribe and until the 4th it’s dead even almost. The 4th set however, Fave’s have a clear lead as Malcom and Dawn are collecting sandbags before the fans complete the tower. Malcom does the bag toss for Bikal and Reynold for Goto.. It’s pretty close until Reynold catches up and while Malcom tries to get his 5th one in, Reynold sinks his 6th one, winning immunity and fire for his tribe. A come from behind victory. Malcom, there’s a new kid on the block and he’s gunning for your spot on the MVP list. Faves are going to tribal council that night, and only 9 will return to camp (day 3). Probst excuses them and they head back.
Back at camp, Bikal returns and TH Fran says that it came down to luck, they should have won (My words not hers), if it had taken 10 seconds longer for Reynold to get the 6th bag, then they would have won. Maybe so, maybe not but it is still Bikal going to council. She and Cochran are sitting in the shelter (earlier, she had approached Phillip about aligning and letting bygones be bygones, clean slate. He told her it’s all good and apparently the two are on one of Phillip’s alliances) and she says that he is the first one who should go (you need strength to make it to the merge and you need friends to make it to final 3 and at any point, you need to out play (screw over) all of those around you). The next name that comes up is Corrine, as she’s bringing him a wet buff so he can cool himself off. He likes her, Fran doesn’t really trust her. In fact, he feels pretty good about everybody there. Brandon is the next to stagger by along with a few others including Andrea. So it’s assumed that everybody, at least 6 are on board with sending Phillip home. However, Andrea runs and tells Phillip what the plan is and of course, he wants to send Fran home, first, for a second time. Eventually, the discussions turn to splitting the vote because Phillip may have an idol (Really? Already? IS there an idol? I haven’t seen anyone look for it or a clue). Once again, before the head to council there is no clear cut decision. Fran is talking of splitting the vote between Phillip and Corrine. I don’t know why her name came up. I personally think it’s pretty stupid to second guess yourself like that in this game. There are too many combos and possibilities for votes for anyone to really be able to feel what’s going on. I didn’t lay out the alliances earlier because as I said, they never last the first council. Dawn is in Cochran’s ear about the two of them going to the end, al la Malcom and Denise. Erik has told Brandon and Fran that he’s definitely voting for Phillip because of the trip that Phillip laid on him about being with, or against.. He has the numbers either way and Erik is still pissed about that conversation. As long as Phillip is wearing those pink drawrs, I would mind seeing him go home either. Now, Brandon and Erik, after assuring Dawn she’s safe, talk to Fran about Andrea telling her that Andrea has a big mouth (basically) and that she’s telling EVERYONE what the plan is. So now the plan is to vote Her out but not tell anyone what they are doing. I get the feeling that Fran is leaving first. Let’s see what happens.
Tribal time.. Probst ushers them in, instructs them to get fire and the Probsting begins. He asks Brandon if there is a clear boss or if everyone is running around doing their own thing. B answers that there are 10 chiefs and no indians. He says that nobody wants to get done like they got done the last time. Probst says it’s going to happen to one of them, tonight. He turns to Fran and brings up whatever rivalry there was between her and Phillip. She says he’s learned to pronounce her name so it’s all good. That is, until he mockingly says her name (correctly) 3 times and then says ‘you’re welcome’. Her eyes rolled and I think I saw a little steam come from her ears. I don’t know if she’s fully aware that he knows of her plan. He’s called her a great strategist and that’s why he wants Her gone. Probst notes that while she is a returning player, she is also the least experienced. By the way, Phillip know how to pronounce her name all along but he didn’t do it the night she went home in lieu of expletives.
Probst turns to Cochran and asks him about what’s happening noting that even with all the strategery, things can change even at council. Cochran notes that being a returning player has it’s advantage because they already know what needs to be done first. He notes that surprises can come at any time, things like Boston Rob tapping someone on the shoulder he wanted voted off.. Malcom reaches across and puts his hand on Cochran’s shoulder. They aren’t shocked about where they have to go to the bathroom and they already know how to open a coconut. Stuff like that. Time to vote. Brandon is first. We get to Fran, her vote is for Andrea. She votes for Fran..
All the votes are in, Probst goes to collect them. Usual stuff, this has happened once a week for now 26 seasons. I guess an idol does exist, he just asked for it. As he is reading the votes, the first six are split between Andrea and Fran, three each. Now it’s 4/4. Are we heading for a true split (it’s a nail biter folks).. 9th vote read, Fran.. 5/4.. 10th vote read.. Any guesses? Are we going to have a blackball vote? I’ve never seen one and want to. However, I won’t get my wish. The final vote is for Francesca. First one gone, again..
I won’t bother with who voted for who but, Cochran, voted for Fran.. I think he may have been that swing vote. It just goes to show that you can’t guess who is going home (well, we probably did in this round) who will be voted off of the game. Fran says she made some sort of history, I guess (because my player stopped at this point) for being out first, twice. She still doesn’t have experience with the game. She strategerized herself right out, first, again. Next week, Brandon channels his uncle, Russel Hantz. See you then.. You can watch at CBS.COM or contact me here on the blog for the freebie players (that sometimes don’t work) to see it commercial free to save 28 minutes of your time.
