Vacation / Project Runway Recap / Dukes of Melrose

Everyone Needs a Vacation

I’m heading to Florida for sun and family.  If I don’t manage to get daily blogs posted, at least you’ll know I’m enjoying myself 🙂

Project Runway “A Sticky Situation” by BB

Last episode Benjamin was eliminated. The 10 remaining designers are: Samantha (1 Win), Tu, Stanley (1 win), Layana (1 Win), Daniel (2 Wins), Amanda, Kate (1 Win), Patricia, Richard (1 Win), and Michelle.

Host and Judge: Heidi Klum; Judges: Zac Posen and Nina Garcia; Mentor: Tim Gunn; Guest Judge: Designer Chris Benz

Richard has no roommates left so he moves in with his teammate Stanley. Kate thinks Amanda will be the next to go. Amanda thinks she keeps being saved for a reason so she’s trying to cling to that thought.

Heidi comes to the runway with a duck on a leash. His name is Fred. He is a clue for the next challenge. Farm animals? Designing for a farmer? The designers go to the workroom to meet with Tim and his guest. They see rolls and rolls of duct tape. Tim’s guest is Bill from a company that manufactures duct tape. The designers will be creating a fashion-forward prom dress out of duct tape. They will be meeting with high school students who will be voting on their designs. Their votes will count for 20%. Patricia and Samantha are not happy about the teens voting. Samantha doesn’t do prom dresses.

New teams are formed for this challenge. As last week’s winner, Stanley gets to choose first. Stanley chooses Layana as his teammate. Richard is a little put out about that. Richard says Stanley may be sorry because his specialty is prom dresses. But Stanley says he has designed prom dresses too. As Tim draws other names from the bag, Kate chooses Tu. Amanda thinks that’s because Kate thinks that if they land in the bottom, Tu will be the one going home. Michelle chooses Amanda. Michelle may be doing the same thing Amanda is accusing Kate of doing. Richard chooses Daniel. That leaves Patricia and Samantha. Samantha’s not thrilled. Nobody seems to want to work with Patricia.

The designers go around the room and choose different colors and prints of duct tape. Richard takes all the gold tape for his team leaving none for the others. The others talk about how rude that is. They are expecting totally 80’s from Daniel and Richard and are already predicting they will be on the bottom.

Layana is whining about not having gold duct tape to go with the black they have, and Stanley tells her he doesn’t want to hear it. Stanley wants to use hot pink and Layana is still whining about not having gold. Layana goes and picks out some black and white zebra print tape. Stanley is OK with it. I think he just wants her to shut up.

Kate takes the lead and likes that Tu pretty much follows her direction. He seems to agree to and do anything she tells him.

Michelle made her own prom dress and she thinks girls don’t want anything that looks like somebody else. Michelle wants to use cammo and Amanda wants to use tie dye. They use neither and decide to create a new print.

Patricia is using her cut-out pattern technique again. Samantha is very nervous and doesn’t understand Patricia’s vision. Meantime Daniel thinks his dress looks like a big potato so he decides to make fabric first then work it on the manikin.

Tim meets with Stanley and Layana. Tim likes the skirt, but thinks the top needs more of a pop. Tim is not concerned about them. Patricia tells Tim she’s scared to death. Tim wants to know why he’s looking at so many different pieces and asks them if they are working smart instead of hard. He doesn’t think they are collaborating as a team and it looks like bride of the tin woodsman.

Tim meets with Daniel and Richard next. Tim tells them to have fun and be playful. He tells them to make a statement and theirs looks like a wow. Daniel and Richard are happy. Tim tells Amanda and Michelle they need to kick their design into high gear if they want to finish on time. Kate thinks theirs looks more like a costume than a prom dress. Tim tells Kate and Tu he has a problem with them pretending their dress is fabric rather than duct tape. Tim sees a flat lackluster effect and it’s forgettable. Kate is freaking out when Tim tells them they are not even remotely there yet. Kate turns to Tu for ideas about what to do.

Time is running out. Samantha thinks Patricia has talent but they don’t combine well. The models arrive. Daniel and Richard are very happy with their dress. Samantha thinks the added ruffles made their dress go from great to really bad. Amanda is hoping the right kind of kids show up to judge their dress. Kate doesn’t think the high school students are going to have much bad to say about their dress because it’s the most realistic. It’s time to go to the high school event. Patricia is worried about her and Samantha’s futuristic look. It looks totally different from everyone else’s design.

Daniel and Richard’s dress is all gold. Kate and Tu have a shiny denim blue dress. Michelle and Amanda’s dress is red and black. Patricia and Samantha’s dress is bright blue and silver. Layana and Stanley’s dress is black and zebra print with a big hot pink bow. I can’t wait to see what the high school kids think of them at the preview show. All of the designers are a little worried about how the teens will receive their designs.

Tim is the emcee for the preview show. He tells the students the designers just had one day to design the dresses out of duct tape. After the models come out and model their dresses, the students come over to see the dresses up close and ask the designers about their designs. Different students like different dresses so you really can’t tell which dress is the most popular with the students. The designers are listening to the critiques in case they decide to make some changes before they go before the judges the next day. Amanda and Michelle seem to have the least amount of teens commenting on their dress.

The next day, the designers tweak their designs before they have to go on the runway. Tim tells them to do whatever needs to be done to knock the judges’ socks off. Michelle and Amanda both love their dress but think they may have taken it a little too far, but Michelle doesn’t want to change anything about it. Daniel calls Patricia and Samantha’s dress the jiffy pop dress and Kate thinks Michelle and Amanda’s dress looks more like a costume than a prom dress.

Here we go. Heidi tells Patricia and Samantha they got the most votes from the students. Michelle and Amanda’s dress is a cool looking red and black which is shorter in the front and longer in the back. I really like it. Stanley and Layana’s dress is very pretty with black, zebra print and a big pink bow. It’s very girly. Daniel and Richard’s dress is all gold with ruffles at the bottom. It does look a little 80’s. Tu and Kate’s dress looks like a traditional prommy-type dress. It’s the only long dress and it’s in a mermaid style. Patricia’s and Samantha’s dress looks like something either an alien or a super hero would wear. I personally don’t like it, but it got the most votes from the teens. I just wonder how many of those teen girls would actually wear it to the prom; very few I would guess.

Patricia and Samantha’s model comes out first. They explain their design. Heidi loves their dress. Nina says the back is just fabulous and she’s not surprised it was a hit with the students. Chris thinks the proportion is a little tricky for him but he loves the idea of it. Zac loves the textile of the bottom and thinks it’s fun. The judges liken it to a Katy Perry look. That’s probably why I don’t personally like it. Samantha tells the judges Patricia should win if they are the top design because she came up with the idea.

Heidi asks Tu why theirs a long dress and he said he deferred to Kate. Heidi doesn’t respond to the dress at all. Chris calls it old fashioned and square. Nina tells them long is so old fashion and wonders why they chose that color for the dress. Nina says it’s such a cliché. Zac disagrees that the length is a problem but he doesn’t get any fantasy from it. Nina and Zac argue a little, and Zac tells Nina he designs for proms all the time, so there. Again Zac doesn’t have a problem with the length, it just doesn’t have enough pizzaz. Heidi says they are making it very hard because it’s Kate’s dress but Tu didn’t speak up so it’s not his design at all.

Stanley and Layana explain their dress. Nina says wow, so lovely and it’s very smart and three dimensional. She loves the bow, she loves the styling. Heidi thinks the girl who would wear that dress is a cool girl. Heidi doesn’t like the color of the petticoat. Zac thinks it’s terrific. Chris likes all the strange layers of inspiration it has. The designers say it was a collaborative effort from them both.

Chris personally loves Amanda’s and Michelle’s dress. Zac thinks the shape is fantastic. His only comment is he doesn’t like the side cut-outs. Nina tells them their dress is Gwen Stefani and the model is definitely a cool girl. Heidi tells them she’s really into the dress and they definitely had to do some math. Who should get the win? Amanda says it should be Michelle, but Michelle says it was 50-50.

Daniel and Richard are last and we know where this is going. Heidi tells them it looks like it’s from 20 years ago. She likes the tailoring, but Zac disagrees. The bust doesn’t fit well. Chris thinks it looks like old clothes. Nina says they went from heroes to zeroes and calls it la mariachi prom. She thinks it’s a train wreck. Heidi asks them if they think they make a good team. They both think they make a great team and love working together.

After the judges deliberate, I still don’t know who the winners will be. The judges seem to wondering about Tu the most and just who he is as a designer. Kate at least took credit for her dress and stood by it. Chris kind of understands where Daniel and Richard were coming from but they didn’t push it forward far enough. Zac is getting worried about Richard and Daniel.

The winning team is . . . Michelle and Amanda! Just think, Amanda came within an inch of going home last week and probably should have. Michelle is declared the winner of the challenge. $5,000 goes to Autism Speaks, which is cool. That means Patricia, Samantha, Stanley and Layana are safe and leave the runway.

The losing team is . . . Kate and Tu. Richard and Daniel are safe with their 80’s dress. I think we all know who is going home this week . . . Tu. He seems to be getting lost in the competition even though Kate was the most responsible for the look that night. Kate starts crying on the runway, but Tu is OK with it and thinks he deserves to go home. BIG SURPRISE! Kate is also out. I didn’t see that one coming!

The other designers can’t believe both of them are going home and they are in shock. Tu is not as upset as Kate about it. Now there are only 8 designers left and the competition is getting more difficult. The remaining designers really need to bring it from here on out.

Next week the models and clients are male dancers from Thunder from Down Under. Eye Candy!

Dukes of Melrose by Jill

Oscar and Felix, there’s a new odd couple in town.  The “Dukes of Melrose” allow us mortals a peep behind the scenes of the high-end consignment world. Decades owners Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos dish the sass and class while selling amazing designer pieces to the rich, richer and richest customers on Melrose.

Christos Garkinos

Christos Garkinos

Christos aka “The Robin Hood Of Fashion” does not appear to be “robbing” the rich to help the poor. Instead, he does a great job finding new homes for the neglected items that have been forgotten amongst the Gucci’s and Pucci’s in the biggest closets of Beverly Hills.  Prying the stylists’ fingers off a dazzling 2006 Prada bag, while surrounded by dozens of other designer bags, did not elicit a tear from viewers but it is fun watching it happen. Christos knows what he wants to pay and he gets that and more with every successfully obtained piece. There is a real glee in his eyes the moment he knows the bag is his.

Cameron Silver

Cameron Silver

On the flip side, Cameron is definitely more Duke, waiving his royal scepter, declaring a win no matter the cost of the piece.  One client brings in two stunning designer gowns with a suggested consignment purchase price of over $50,000 for the pair.  Did you hear the audience gasp at the price? That’s the cost of 2 very nice new cars. The Duke’s carefree style and keen eye for fashion is how he spots a true find that could end up turning into a grand profit for the store.

Christos frugal high-end wheeling and dealing might not be enough to counter Cameron carefree whimsy and unrestrained spending.
Their ying and yang relationship over running the store and trying to make a profit, heck just trying to pay their bills, requires a delicate balance.

Screen shot 2013-03-07 at 11.44.18 PMAs the previews for the season show, fights over money being spent and not enough coming in, create strain and tension between these two.  One thing you can guarantee is there will be so much fashion eye candy on the show that viewers will tune in for a weekly fashion catwalk.  It was fun to hear Rachel Harris dish about being a constant worst dress list nominee, but she keeps coming back. If their celebrity clients and friends continue to appear, maybe we will get to see a few more fashion hits and misses prior to their red carpet walks. So pull on your Jimmy Choo shoes and adjust your Chanel jacket because this season of Dukes if going to be one fashionably bumpy ride.

Good morning everyone. TGIF. I got to work at home today. Woo hoo!!! So happy about that since I had to go in yesterday for a meeting. It’s snowing in NYC to Massachusetts. How are you NYC & Jersey ladies? Have a great day. 🙂

    • Boobah says:

Good morning Powell, we have a nice amount of snow. It’s very pretty looking. But it’s that heavy, wet snow – it stuck to everything. I think it’s supposed to keep snowing til noon. Not very windy. I don’t mind this one bit!

That’s awesome you get to work from home! How’s you weather?

      • Powell says:

Boobah I’m glad you’re ok w/the snow. I only like it if I get to stay home & work. 😉 We have sunny skies, no snow-thk you, but it’s very windy & cold.

I hope you have a great Friday. 🙂

        • not THAT Jill says:

Just put my daughter on the school bus and finished shoveling the driveway…it’s still snowing pretty good here…hope it stops soon!! I don’t want to shovel again this year!!!

          • Boobah says:

Yeah, the shoveling takes the romance right outta it, doesn’t it!? LOL! I bet this is it for this winter. But I’m not putting away the boots, scarves, and gloves just yet! It’s still coming down here also. I’m just so glad that it isn’t a windy blizzard type of snow.

          • Powell says:

JNNTJ I hear you about the shoveling. Do your no more shoveling dance. 🙂 Have a great day.

          • LaineyLainey says:

That’s hard work, lady!!! You must be in good shape!

        • Boobah says:

Thanks, and you too!! Hope the wind dies down and the air warms up for ya soon. As much as I don’t mind the snow, I think I’m ready for spring. I’m with ya on that!

          • Glad to hear you guys are making it through the storm! *No shovel envy here!*

Boo….thanks for your rain jig yesterday….we are getting a bit of it now and it will supposedly go through out the day, but it is short lived as it will be gone by tomorrow. But, at least it is a bit of moisture and we can use it! 🙂

            • Boobah says:

That’s awesome news about the rain, Mardrag! Too bad you couldn’t have another day of it, but I guess some is better than none!

              LOL! No shovel envy! 🙂

              • Thanks Boo! Some is definitely better than none! 🙂

              • not THAT Jill says:

The snow finally stopped and Thank God I didn’t have to shovel again!! I have a looooong driveway and I only did half-enough room for 2 cars….hoping the rest will melt by morning!! I’m having a big party tomorrow night and I really don’t want to shovel the whole thing!! Kevin is working (he is always working when it’s time to shovel) so I have to do the work-but I’m not going to the gym today, shoveling is enough of a work out!!

                • Boobah says:

YAY!!! It stopped here also. I’d say you can skip the gym – you’ve worked out plenty already! 🙂 Have fun at your party!!!

                • Powell says:

Hmmm. My cousin is a Kevin and just gets there when the shoveling is done. What does that say? 🙂

  4. Powell says:

NMD have a few Mojhitos & Margaritas for me Florida style. Enjoy your much deserved vaca. Party on. 🙂

    • nohausfrau says:

      ITA, enjoy the warmth!

    • WindyCityWondering says:

Recharge your batteries, relax and take in the sunny warmth and make sure you eat too much and drink enough so it feels like a vacation – a tan is optional!

    • trudie says:

Agreed. Do Not even think about writing blogs while you are gone – it is a vacation. We can take care of ourselves. We promise to bring in the newspapers and mail in your absence.

  5. AZGirl says:

Have a great vacation NMD! You certainly deserve it! Stormy here in AZ. Crazy weather. Sunny and 80 yesterday and now waking up to lightning and thunder.
    Happy Birthday PChick!

    • Powell says:

AZGirl I am so jealous. 80 degrees? Ahhhh. Bummer about thunder & lightening today though. I don’t like either when it’s very very loud. Kind of scary. I hope it stops so you can Have a great day.

    • iceNfire says:

Hi AZgirl – Kid got home from AZ interview last night and he said it went very well AND he said he can see himself living there. It reminds him of Bishop CA. which is a world class rock climbing area. I told him I’d go with him but he said “yeah I don’t think so” LoL

      • AZGirl says:

I am so glad the interview went well. Oh but Ice you will come and visit Kid and we will head over to the LivingRoom (which is a cougar hangout) and have some fun. Shhhh.,,,we won’t let Mr.AZGirl know…he,he,he,

        • iceNfire says:

Shoot I just woke up (again) Middle Kid drove KidRock to another interview this morning. Since it’s possible that all 3 sons will be living in different cities/states I’ve come up with a master plan. I will buy each kid a house and they will reserve 1 bedroom for me. Husband and I will not own a house of our own…..going to buy my lottery ticket right now.

      • Powell says:

Mmm mmm. You’re staying home mom. 🙂

    • Rebecca says:

It hailed up here in Scottsdale again. Puppy was scared this morning!

  6. Powell says:

Jil most definitely want to watch the Dukes for the fashion catwalk. I’m looking forward to you blogging.

    • WindyCityWondering says:

ME TOO! I think this show will be both educational and funny at the same time so I will be watching it as well.

  7. HuskerHuny says:

HOOOOORAAAAAAAY!!! Project Runway finally found a way for the designers to use color – duct tape! And what pretty designs they were (for the most part)! Congrats to Husker girl Amanda – she and Michelle worked well together. Although the final design was Michelle’s idea, Amanda was smart enough to veto the orginal camo tape. Nina would have eaten them alive for that one. I think it was a total team effort.

It’s going to be a 50+ degree day here in Huskerland with rain coming in for the weekend for some much needed moisture in this part of the world. I’m wearing shorts to work, but that has more to do with my menopausal state than the weather. But I do feel very spring-y! Can’t wait to see tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and lillacs!

Happy Friday and weekend to all.

    • Powell says:

Husker I haven’t been watching but they did that very early on when PR was on Bravo. I have to start watching again.

It’s a rainy day there which will lead to those springy flowers. I love blooming flowers. Have a great day. Oh & shorts huh? 🙂

    • LaineyLainey says:

The kids liked the dress that got the designers eliminated…they kept saying this one is more prommy than the others. Amanda and Michelle’s dress was not prommy at all; but Nina liked it so….boom. That’s the winner. That seems to happen a lot.

      • Other than Patricia and Amanda’s dress getting the highest number of votes from the HS students, we don’t really what the students *really* liked – or not. We only know what the editors let us see of the student comments….

I think what’s considered “prommy” varies a great deal from region to region in this country – and from year to year. The only one of the judges that I think had some sense of what’s going on in the world of proms is Zac Posen, who actually designs and SELLS prom wear. And maybe Chris Denz – his fashions really seems to skew towards the young crowd with lots of color and prints.

        • dang – “we don’t really KNOW what the students “….

          • LaineyLainey says:

Yes, PastB, I understood what you meant. I think I actually heard a student or a couple of students say “this is the most prommy dress”…that’s what I based my comment on. Also, they showed an initial curiosity/interest in Amanda’s/Michelle’s dress but then no one was talking to them later…Amanda expressed that (I don’t think it wasn’t just editing)…she said something like…”no one is talking to us it’s crickets.” That too, is what I based my comment on that it was the least prommy. I’m no Zach Posen (Zach didn’t hate the dress that got eliminated, right? I really like him, by the way), but my daughter went to prom four years in a row and people are still borrowing her prom formals or emailing me/texting me to find out where we bought her desses. She was on the dance team, so so now the little sisters of her peers are in H.S. and we are still friends(ish) with those families (lots of high school girly girls). That’s another thing that I was basing my comments on…our personal experience. We are in Texas and long dresses or really feminine cocktail length are what the kids wear to prom here. Not punk dresses. Not spacey dresses not fetish-ish dresses. Maybe other regions are teeming with punk, space and fetish prom dresses…but not our part of Texas. But Nina believes otherwise, so that’s really what matters on this show. doesn’t mean I don’t like Nina..but she’s quite decisive. There’s no budging there, but I guess that’s why she’s the editor of a big fashion magazine. She looks at the work with an editorial eye, for sure. I personally liked Michelle and Amanda’s creation – it was super creative and I could actually see it for the red carpet like maybe for MTV…maybe? But not for prom. But that’s my opinion. Oh and sometimes I really like something on PR and then the judges say: “That’s so Old Lady.” gulp. I hate when that happens. LOL!!!!

            • shamrockblonde says:

both of my daughters went to their proms in long gowns – at the time nobody went in a short dress – I will have to go on line and look at the dresses – the twins love using duct tape to make purses and wallets – they will probably love this episode!!
and people laugh cuz I carry a roll of duct tape (zebra striped) in my purse!! – now I can use to whip up a shirt for those days when I manage to ruin my clothes at work! I only hope my taping abilities are significantly better than my alleged sewing abilities!!

          • Powell says:

I know what you meant. 🙂

      • HuskerHuny says:

Amanda’s and Michelle’s dress was something I definitely would not wear to prom – back in my day or now. But it was fashion-forward and they made a design/print with the tape, so it was eye-catching. I just don’t get Nina’s aesthetic sometimes. She and Zac Posen seem to clash much more than she did with Michael Kors. That makes it more interesting.

  8. Dwight Schrute says:

Daniel and Richard should have been called out more for taking ALL the gold tape and refusing to share. As someone pointed out it was the equivalent of 250 yards of fabric and there was no way they were going to use all. I actually liked their dress before the ruffles were added. I’m glad Heidi told them that they were BARELY safe. Hopefully that will dent their egos a bit.

  9. L.A. Chica says:

Happy vacation, NMD and many thanks to you and BB for blogging! 😀

  10. SoutheastVA says:

Happy Birthday to Pghemchick & Majnon!

  11. Good Morning! I am waking up to a smattering of rain this morning. Yeah! Thanks for the *rain jig* Boobah!

NMD, have a wonderful vacation…you deserve it! Have some margarita’s for us and rest your weary blog fingers! Know that we appreciate you so very much!

BB, I thought I saw you say you are traveling too and visiting family. Wishing you a wonderful time too on your much needed break. You are so appreciated as well!

Project Runway was good last night…I loved the challenge. But, tho I loved the winning dress, I thought Layana & Stanley should have won because it looked more like a prom dress. Sometimes, I have no idea where the judges heads are at. Next week, it looks like Nina finds her teenage squeal! LOL!

New post, “A Message To My Readers”. is up at my place. Enjoy!

  12. T-Rex says:

Which part of Florida you coming down to????

  13. I woke up with BOB on my mind..weird… and of course an ear worm…so here’s your

Hope Mr. Ford has a good appt.

Did you both enjoy your pizza? I hope so especially since it was you 1st paycheck treat. Have a great flashback friday. 🙂

    • Boobah says:

I hate that!!! Just when you finally find something you like or that actually works – they change it or take it off the market!!

Sorry to hear about your back…I understand. Having a back problem is such a pain the ass – even the slighest thing can knock you out. Hang in there. oxox

      • Kansas Girl says:

I think of it as the bra syndrome. Just when you find one that fits, they discontinue it. 😀

      • Boobah… maybe soon I will be able to afford getting injections in my spine again..had to stop awhile back because I just couldnt afford it…. I do walk around at work to be sure my back doesnt stiffen up… maybe over did it this week catching up with going to the laundry mat and other stuff….

mr ford back from dr… pcp is worried about him being knocked out for this surgery..wants to talk to cardio dr more before he will agree to sign off on it… I asked mr ford should we update our wills..he laughed..said I can have the riding lawn mower and all his tools… lol lol
pcp wants another echo done to see heart rate function…. so guess that may or may not be done on Monday….mr ford says he’s wiling to do the surgery just to be out of pain… and for him ..the pain must be pretty bad for him to say that…. cortisone at this point is not an option , unfortunately…. so let’s hope this all works out ……
off to get lunch for the patient and then shower for work…

        hugs and peace

        • Powell says:

My fingers are crossed for your back pain to end and for Mr. Ford’s knee pain to end. Diva are you holding each other up? 😉

        • Boobah says:

Thoughts and prayers to you and Mr. Ford so that you get the green light for the surgery. I hope you are able to get the shots again soon. I know quality of life drasically improves when the pain is minimized or gone. So go easy…oh hell, you know the drill. 🙂 In fact, I’ve learned a few things from you, so you don’t need me to tell ya! 😉 But I do hope the pain goes away for both you and Mr. Ford.

Hey, btw are you signed up for the L’Oreal Rewards Program? It’s really cool, after you enter 5 codes, you get a coupon in the mail for a FREE box. Along with using coupons that are in the Sunday paper frequently, it’s a great way to keep haircoloring costs down.

  16. L.A. Chica says:

Ok, I have an issue with what is considered appropriate for prom wear these days. Well, actually since the 1980s when short dresses became the norm.

At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, I do not like short dresses for prom. To me a short dress may be a cocktail dress, but it’s NOT formalwear. Don’t the guys still wear tuxedos to proms or is that no longer the case? If your date is wearing a tuxedo, you should be wearing a gown. Tea length, floor length, it just shouldn’t be above the knee or it’s just a party dress.

Another factor for me is that when it comes to fancy affairs little girls wear short dresses. Imho, part of the idea of wearing a formal gown to prom is to dress more like a young woman, to express through your dress that you’re growing up and entering adulthood. Maybe I’m assuming too much there but I thought that was part of the subtext.

And the idea of extending childhood really bugs me. They are legally an adult when they turn 18, teens should be encouraged to embrace the concept of developing maturity and entering the world of grownups, not encouraged to be stuck in a holding pattern within childhood. Symbols are powerful, and clothing is symbolic.

    • LaineyLainey says:

The long formal dress is alive and well in Texas, L.A. Chica. 🙂

    • Powell says:

The long dress is alive & well all over the country. It’s just many girls preference to show off their legs. I don’t care one way or the other. What I care about is girls wanting to look 25. No cleavage, no thigh high splits, no cuts way below the butt crack & no coochie crack(don’t like you but thks Kenya) showing.

      • L.A. Chica says:

        ITA, Powell!

        • L.A. Chica says:

Maybe except the no cleavage part. Some girls can’t help it, but I do think that there are ways to have classy cleavage and not be tacky about it. For instance, definitely no Laura Bennet-style Vs down to your naval. I’m not crazy about that look on 25 or 35-year olds, let alone a teen. But that’s just me.

          • L.A. Chica says:

            Navel, not naval. 😆

          • Powell says:

They have to have the right dress for their body type. When my mom’s GFs daughter went to prom that was 5yrs ago now, we helped her get dressed. She had a strapless dress. She small frame but big boobs. No cleavage was showing cause her mom bought the dress for her body type. You of course saw the top of her bare chest but no cleavage showing.

My cousin’s daughter has prom this yr. She’s tall, full figured and big boobs. I have no idea of what she will wear but she will try to dress like she’s 25 I’m sure. I hope not. That’s not good.

I was in Heaven last night!! I love duct tape and I kidded my daughter for years to let me make her prom dress out of duct tape!!! I also tease her that I can make her ComicCon costumes out of duct tape…she is not completely sure if I am kidding or not and I’m not sure either, lol. When she came in last night and saw what the challenge was we lol’d….

One time a friend of mine wanted me to recover a window seat cushion for her son’s room and all she had was the dust ruffle…..I could not figure out how I was going to sew it and not have a big seam down the middle, then it hit me DUCT TAPE, so I just wrapped the cushion and duct taped it to the bottom/back, it came out great and she was thrilled!

My older daughter had a hole in her back pack and finding a back pack this time of year is not easy!! My husbands solution….DUCT TAPE!! Of course my daughter has every imaginable print of duct tape-zebra,plaid,purple,pink,checks and polka dots but they decided black was the perfect color-it is holding up very well!!!

If anyone goes over to reality tea, jac lauritas home is in ore foreclosure. I actually double checked zillow myself (since I went in an ad hoc HWs tour a few yrs ago and still had the address in my gps ) and it appears to be true!

I am running out and don’t have time for my real comment, so I’ll just throw out a few cliches…glass houses, stones, karma…I would never laugh at others misfortune and I have sympathy for her and her kids, but she was so vicious about the giudices problems…this is why you don’t count other people’s money.

How long before the Gorgas are in the same boat? I give it a year.

    • lizzle says:

Wow! That’s bad and explains her misplaced anger at Teresa. I agree with all of the cliches you threw out there. It pretty much sums it up. I am actually surprised at my own emotions regarding this news… I feel horrible for her and her family. I hope they can somehow turn this around and keep their house.

    • LaineyLainey says:

She WAS vicious. Jac is Wack. or is it whack?

    • Powell says:

Exit that is sad for the kids. So now when it is brought up, I hope at the reunion she will say its not like what Teresa’s was or whatever to not just say it’s true and that she shouldn’t have said what she did & wished upon T.

Thank you NMD, BB, and Jill for a great blog today! Much appreciated. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

NMD – I am happy that you are taking a day off! You deserve some R&R. Big Time! Hope you have a lovely time. Maybe you should consider doing what Lynn used to do…which IIRC, she didn’t post a new Sunday morning blog. Saturday’s blog carried over. Then she would post a Let’s Chat blog for the RH’s show for Sunday evening. I think that’s how it went. 😀 Just a thought…

  19. Exit4 says:

Oops, forgot to add, I didn’t put the address in my comments because I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate. If no one objects (or gets to it first) ill give it to you. I know it’s public record, but I wanted to be fair. Not that she deserves it.

NMD – Enjoy your vacation! Thank you for all you do. And to BB and the other bloggers. I love reading this site everyday. It is my 5 minute escape several times per day.

BB – thank you for blogging Project Runway. I loved the winning dress by Michelle and Amanda but I also loved Stanley and Layana’s dress too. I think it could have gone either way. I was also surprised how much the Judge’s liked Patricia and Samantha’s dress. I didn’t care for it at all. I think Kate could have been knocked over with a feather after being sent home. She was in shock!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  21. KTinCT says:

Happy Birthday, Pghemtchick!! And an early wish for a Happy Birthday to you, majnon 🙂

  22. Lulu says:

Hello everyone!! It’s been awhile again! I’m finally settled in after the mess of A: finding a renter to get out of my lease and B: finding a rental. Now that that ordeal is done and over with I need your help in crafting a plan. We don’t have a fenced yard and our neighbors let their dogs roam loose. They use our yard as their toilet. I on two occasions tried to talk to the neighbor but the ignore me. What would you do!! DH forbids me from taking action 😦 What have you done? What can I do?

On a side note I finally caught up on the (douche) Bachelor. I love that someone finally put him in his place! He is nothing more than a frat boy playing the field. What an Arse! I hope in the letter he reads that he is dumped. What a jerk.

NMD ENJOY your vacation!!!!! Live it up and brag about the beaches, sunshine, sleep, margaritas (sigh!) sleep!!

    • L.A. Chica says:

Leave the dogs’ poop on the owners’ porch? I’m a serious dog lover but hate it when irresponsible dog owners don’t clean up after their pets. It’s not the pet’s fault, they don’t know any better. The human _should_. Anyway, I’d bag it and drop it at their front door. No need to set it on fire. 😉

      • iceNfire says:

I’ve seen this action cause an all out war, the dog owners became more obnoxious they even put flood light on there house and directed them to shine into complaining neighbors living/bedrooms.

        • L.A. Chica says:

That’s terrible! Obnoxious is as obnoxious does, I guess. I mean, to not even be responsive to a polite request as Lulu attempted is bad enough.

      • Powell says:

LA Chica that’s what I said as the 2nd option sans putting it on fire. 🙂

      • pat says:

“No need to set it on fire.” Thanks for the LOL!!!

    • L.A. Chica says:

      Oh— and welcome back! 😀

    • Rebecca says:

Grab a shovel and relocate the poop back into their lawn – maybe the front step.
      It belongs to them.

    • Catseye says:

Well, if you already talked to them and requested they stop allowing their dogs to run loose, I’d say it’s time to call animal control if it bugs you that much. I live in the city and not only pick up other people’s dog’s waste along with my own dog’s, I pick up a lot of litter carelessy strewn around by humans. I know how irritating it can be. I’ve been trying for 20yrs to get the old man next door to stop using a blower to blow crap into the street that comes back onto the sidewalk as soon as a car goes by.

      • Catseye says:

(*OOps, never mind about calling the authorities, I forgot you mentioned your DH doesn’t want to stir up trouble.) My neighbors across the street planted a bunch of tall, messy looking grassy stuff around the perimeter of their yard to keep dogs away. Can you do something like that? Lavender might be a better choice, since it not only smells nice, it grows, w/o a lot of care.

        • Powell says:

That Lavender is a great idea Catseye. Very diplomatic. See I ask nicely like Lulu then I’m not going to continue to be so nice.

    • WindyCityWondering says:

Find out the ordinances where you live regarding cleaning up after one’s pets, pets off leash, etc. Call them in everytime their dogs go in your yard and they don’t pick it up. Next, any places they (the dogs) especially like to do their business in should be liberially sprinkled with red pepper flakes.

    • Powell says:

Lulu I’m glad to see you. I asked last week if anyone had spoken to you. This question is right up my alley sinceI had, had being the operative word the same problem. I don’t know why I have to have a jerk living next door to my, but I digress. My mom scooped up their dog poop and put it right in their yard. They
ever let that dog poop in our yard again. If they had the next time it was going to be on their front step. The neighborhood had previously had a problem w/their 1st dog which was too big for them rome the neighborhood and the dog tore up my Sunday paper and I confronted them about that. So when the dog pooped & my mom put it in their yard I think they got the message. This is the same idiot neighbor who when they 1st got the dog it was when we had over 100 degree weather. I came home from work & saw they had the dog tied to a tree. I called animal control ASAP & that stopped that. My mom & I saw the owner out one day & we told him he can’t do that. We can’t stay out in that he and neither can pets. He said his wife bought the dog to which he objected. My mom told him it’s your dog. They got rid of the dog and bought a smaller one.

      • L.A. Chica says:

People who mistreat their animals really upset me. We license dogs but I think we need to license the people before they’re allowed to get a dog.

        • Powell says:

Yes. I think they need to take a class and be certified. Some people just don’t have a clue.

    • catmom1 says:

Assuming you don’t want to put up a “real” fence, here’s a alternative cheap and easy option. Go to Home Depot/Lowes/Menards and look in their fencing area. You should find rabbit fencing and chicken (sort of metal mesh) fencing. Both are relatively inexpensive and come in varying heights and lengths. You can either buy the metal fence posts in that area or look at buying lengths of rebar (metal rods used in concrete work) to use for the posts. The rebar usually comes in 4′, 10′, and 20′ lengths and can be cut to the length you need – say you get a 20′ and cut it into 4 5′ lengths. I love rebar, use it to stake dahlias and tomatoes. It’s sturdy and lasts darn near forever. Good luck with the dogs.

I have a duct tape story for you. In our long past good ole’ days, my DH and I were canoeing in the Canadian wilderness – real wilderness. We had a rental aluminum canoe because we didn’t want to scratch ours badly in the rough waters we were going into. Well, at one point we got a tear in the “nose.” “Never fear dear. I have duct tape.” So on we went on our merry way.
Three years later we were on the same river, in our own canoe. We stopped at a campsite and my husband called me, “Look at this!” On an opposite shore he found that same old canoe. Someone had abandoned it – but the duct tape was still on the nose!

Good morning peeps. It’s Saturday!! Hip hip hurray!!! I hope everyone is having better weather today. All sunshine.

I was looking at Adrienne’s website that ice posted. There’s one thing I really hate that people and biz need to pay close attention to is the content on their sites. That’s one of my pet peeves w/Bravo. A’s website has very little content, outdated content and a whole lot of empty space. She has 2012 pic w/Paul when they wrnt to Disney. She has a link for her shoes & only 1 style came up. Under projects she has that she’s working on something w/DreamWorks which is good. If she’s going to grow her biz then her website(s) are apart of that biz. She does know its 2013 right?
