Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles
Episode 2 – Last Laugh
Josh Altman arrives at Josh Flagg’s office to present a lowball offer of $9 million for the Benedict Canyon Beverly Hills mansion featured in last week’s episode. Josh F. is highly insulted at this offer, feeling the land itself (approximately 1.5 acres) is worth $14 million alone, regardless of the house. Josh A. is incredulous that his offer won’t even be presented, according to Mr. Flagg. The two brokers part on acrimonius terms.
Madison arrives at a new client’s home, a very nice half -acre home in Malibu Canyon with beautiful ocean views. His initial consultation is continually interrupted by the two young children present. Madison truly has the patience of a saint! He negotiates with owner Cynthia a good starting point to list the home of just under $1.5 million.
Josh A. meets with an attorney who represents a foreign client who just so happens to want to purchase a unique property near the Beverly Hills hotel. Money will be no object, but Josh advises the attorney he will need to see proof of funds before he will work with this unknown client. Josh is excited, as the highest priced home he has ever sold is $17 million…could this potential sale be the high watermark of his career so far? Josh continues to dig to find the perfect property for the unknown wealthy investor that would be in the range of at least $20 million.
Josh F. and his boyfriend Colton have a purchased a flip property. Colton will do the redecorating and Josh of course will handle the sale. Josh feels that this project could keep Colton’s mind off the idea of the two of them adopting a child, for the time being at least.
Madison’s new Malibu listing has become a hot one; with the new photos it has attracted many brokers. He looks forward to a quick sale of this lovely property.
Josh A. has received an offer of $13.5 million for the Beverly Hills estate. He presents the offer to his client David, but David is disappointed as he feels that this is too far removed from their initial listing price of just under $15 million. They agree to be patient and hope a higher offer is made before they attempt to counteroffer.
Josh A. has found his blockbuster of a property of a home to show his unknown client: a stunning $58,000,000 home owned by Yolanda Foster’s ex-husband Mohamad Hadid. It is truly exquisite. Josh can’t even imagine what the sales commission would be in his pocket on this home. The attorney/representative is impressed, but is possibly looking for something with an even better view. Can’t win ‘em all, Josh.
Josh F. visits his adorable grandmother, who asks how things are going with the Beverly Hills estate sale. She advises her grandson to lay low, and not pressure the client.
Madison has two offers for the Malibu property to show his client: one for $1.1 million and the other for $1.4 million. Their strategy will be to counteroffer BOTH offers at $1,450,000.00.
Josh A. has found yet another Beverly Hills area in Beverly Park home to show his Unknown Client. Hey, look here, it is the home of the late movie producer Richard Zanuck. Showing the home is Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member and Richard’s daughter-i- law Marisa Zanuck. We had seen this four-acre home briefly in a BH episode, and boy it is beautiful; in fact, I shall be rewatching this episode to get a second look at all the details. The handpainted tiles in the kitchen were to die for; there is a 4,000 lb. crystal chandelier, and Arnold Schwarzenegger designed the gym. The landscaping alone cost $7 million. Unfortunately, the home has only ONE huge bedroom! Marisa advises the home is being listed for $26 million. The attorney/rep of Unknown Client is concerned about the lack of bedrooms but agrees to think about it.
Madison has an accepted offer for the Malibu Canyon property, but the agent Tim does not want to wait for the other agent to respond to the counteroffer; he feels the deal is done. Madison does not receive a second response within a reasonable time, so a deal is struck for $1,450,000.00.
Josh A. is waiting for a counteroffer from Josh F. on the Beverly Hills property of an initial offer of $9 million. Josh F. says their counteroffer will be full price and nothing less. Josh A. can go up to $10 million, take it or leave it. Josh F. tries to convince his counterpart that his client has no problem waiting for a full price offer; in fact, he already has another offer of $13.5 million that far surpasses Josh A’s. Josh A. is convinced that Mr. Flagg will ultimately fail his client and then he will step in and take the listing. Time will tell!
Miami Blogs Blogged
First off, thanks to NoMoreDrama for the opportunity to blog the blogs this season & to BehindBleuEyes for the great recap! I didn’t want to recap the entirety of the blogs since all of the ladies wrote this week & anyone who wants the whole thing can just go to Bravo’s site. This was getting long enough with just my thoughts. Now, on to the blogs…
Lea jumps right in, addressing the comments made by Alexia in her talking head. We all know Alexia’s son Peter got into some trouble for assaulting a homeless man. Alexia said that Lea stated Peter should go to jail for 25 years, though Lea denies making that statement. Lea goes on to say that Alexia knew that Lea had never made negative comments but repeated them anyway. In this case, I’m inclined to believe Lea since she does run a charity that helps keep troubled kids out of prison. I did Google the terms cited by Lea & found the article she referred to. There were no negative comments made about Peter or Alexia.
Now for what I really wanted to know – what happened between Lea & Adriana? They were BFF’s for the first two seasons! Lea believes that the rift began when Adriana didn’t think she had her back during the fight with Joanna. To which, Lea says “A true friend has the guts to tell you when you’re wrong, and Adriana, you were wrong.” I could not agree more! It’s just idiotic to be mad at someone because they didn’t agree that your physically assaulting someone was ok. Lea says that Adriana has now joined “the hater club.”
Lea didn’t attend the luncheon at Lisa’s. Her excuse is that her son was on spring break & that she didn’t want to air all of her dirty laundry in front of everyone. The spring break thing seems like a flimsy excuse, but I can agree that hashing something out in front of a group may not be the best idea. Especially since we all know would be taking sides & issuing opinions, as Lea pointed out.
Based on her “stay tuned”, I’m assuming that we’re in for a one-on-one confrontation. Maybe we’ll get a little more clarity on Adriana’s perspective then. Lea takes the high road regarding Frederic’s “mean-spirited” impersonation of her by simply thinking him for mentioning her handbag line. She closes out with a shout-out to her designers and to “Expect drama, lies, betrayal, turmoil, raw emotions, laughs, giggles, fun, outrage, fake outrage, fake friendships, and much more.” “You can count on me to be straight with you.” I may not agree with Lea all of the time & she can get on my nerves, but she does seem to always be straightforward.
Adriana de Moura
Let me begin with a disclaimer: Adriana drives me crazy! I understand the need to bring the drama so she’ll get asked back for another season, but it’s just too much for me. Her over-reactions to everything seem fake.
Adriana begins by attempting to explain the married/not married controversy. Of course we now know this is just one of the many versions she’s told since the news came out. She & Frederic got a marriage license “many years ago.” They had been dating for just a few weeks. Frederic called it off a few weeks before the ceremony because her son wasn’t ready for her to re-marry. I seem to remember her stating, in season 1, that he had proposed after a few weeks but that she wasn’t ready to be married again. There was no mention of a planned ceremony or the idea that it was her son who wasn’t ready. Her son seemed comfortable with Frederic and their relationship.
She goes on to explain that they both had mixed feelings about the first wedding and that she “still had many issues to work out within me due to failed relationships in the past.” The failed relationships, namely her first marriage while ended badly, are the reason she has always given for not marrying Frederic. She then says that she didn’t feel married because they didn’t have a ceremony. I can understand not feeling completely married because you didn’t have a ceremony, especially in certain cultures or religions. But if you sign the marriage license, you are legally married. Why not just explain that from the beginning? She states that she didn’t hurt anyone, but it certainly hurt her credibility with me. How are we supposed to believe what Adriana says about anything when her story is constantly changing?
She doesn’t really address the feud with Lea, which was kind of disappointing. Not that I would believe her side, but it would have been nice to hear. To completely disregard it makes me wonder if her side has no merit and that she’s just blown a disagreement out of proportion.
“I’m so excited to be back as a full-time Housewife and be able to share my miracle with you.” I think that Alexia did the right thing last season & took time off to care for her son. Last season she addressed Frankie’s injuries & it’s great to hear about his improvements. He truly is a miracle & I think that his condition has made Alexia realize how much of the drama isn’t worth her time. As she says, “your life can change in one second.”
Finally, she gets into the Adriana scandals/issues. Is anyone else noticing that all of the drama surrounds Adriana so far? She states that Adriana informed her of the marriage license after it was released in the press. Apparently Adriana wasn’t telling anyone until she was forced to. I agree with Alexia that Lisa brought it up at the bridal show because she wanted Lea & Adriana to work it out. Though she doesn’t think either one wants to. “Adriana explains herself very well. She is sincere and convincing, at least to me!” Adriana’s explanations sound like a lot of backpedaling & excuses to me, not at all convincing. I think Alexia has aligned herself with the anti-Lea group & is just sticking with them. As for Lisa’s luncheon, Alexia took Lea’s absence as her opposition to making up with Adriana. I’m not so sure about that. If I were Lea, I’d want to address Adriana one-on-one, without other potential pot-stirrers around.
Though Joanna appears to play nice with Adriana in front of the cameras, she takes this opportunity to let us know that she isn’t over last season. She’ll be around Adriana because she has to. “Life’s too short to hate and be jealous or envy others, but I guess not everyone follows that motto…” If she’s insinuating that Adriana is jealous of her, I think she’s off base. Adriana thinks way too much of herself to be jealous of anyone. “In a perfect world I would never see her again, as I don’t need people around me that talk behind my back and try to hurt me intentionally.” It seems like Joanna has a tendency to push away the people who are true friends to her, like Lisa & Marta.
Joanna confirms that Lea, supposedly Adriana’s BFF, was not aware of the marriage license. Joanna feels the right to make a judgment on Adriana’s lies because of comments that Adriana made about Joanna & Romain’s relationship issues. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think that tit-for-tat attitude (most recently exhibited in the OC) is childish. But, I think Joanna has the right to point out a fact – that Adriana said she wasn’t married when she actually was. Joanna points out what has really been bothering me about the whole marriage license scandal, “She has played the victim for years to Lea as if she is this poor struggling single mother when this whole time she was married.”
In typical Joanna style, she goes on about an issue that doesn’t really involve her. But, I guess that’s part of the housewife job – to give opinions on what your castmates are saying & doing. While I may not always agree with how outspoken Joanna is (I’m a southerner girl & we’re a little more laid-back), I have to agree with her points on this one. Adriana led Lea to believe that she wasn’t married and gave several different excuses once she got busted. She also clears up that Lea felt both women were in the wrong after their altercation last season and that Lea didn’t take anyone’s side.
Marysol opens by acknowledging her status as a ‘friend” of the Housewives. It’s obvious that Marysol has been through a lot this year & she lets us in on exactly what happened with her mother, Elsa. A few days before filming, Elsa was found unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital. “As you can imagine, this has been the most painful crisis I have had to live through in my life.” Having seen how close their relationship is, I cannot even imagine the terror that Marysol felt.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors informed Marysol that Elsa needed immediate brain surgery. She turned to Alexia for advice since Alexia had been through a similar situation. They proceeded with the surgery & Elsa had months of recovery ahead. “If I had not had my company to run and the filming of this season, I would have fallen into a horrible depression caused by the personal tragedy that occurred in my family this spring.” It’s amazing to me that Marysol can remain so positive and see the blessing that she still has, despite being in such a painful & trying time.
She only touches on the Adriana marriage scandal. She presents the Latin culture’s view on marriage – that you aren’t “truly” married until you have a ceremony. Again, while I understand that, I still don’t think it excuses Adriana’s lie by omission. It doesn’t surprise me that Marysol chose not to comment on the Lea/Adriana feud. She seems to want to keep out of the drama & has had her own issues with Lea. She could have taken the opportunity to trash-talk Lea, but she took the high road & stayed silent, very classy!
In my opinion, saving the best for last! I loved Lisa last season! She was fun, sexy & didn’t get too caught up in the drama! Hopefully that will last.
As to the end of Lea & Adriana’s friendship, “there is a whole list of reasons why it ended. Egos, betrayal, and new alliances with the other’s enemies to name a few. I personally think it’s much deeper than we see in this first episode and has a much longer history than we may know.” I agree. These women have been friends for a long time. Lea supported Adriana during the end of her first marriage. I can’t see the fight between Adriana & Joanna causing this big of a rift. Again, the whole ‘you didn’t take my side when I was wrong so I’m going to be mad at you’ seems a little childish.
You could almost see the tension between Lisa & the other ladies at the bridal fair. I love that Lisa makes no apologies for addressing the “elephant in the room,” aka Adriana’s marriage. She points out what Adriana also did, that there is a difference between a marriage license & the ceremony. She accuses Ana of talking down to her. Ana did make a ‘just try to keep up’ comment, among others. “If I needed her ‘help,’ I would have asked, but I only ask for advice from people who are winning in life” Haha! Can’t say I blame Lisa for feeling put down. Lisa may not be a lawyer, but she seems like a pretty smart lady who doesn’t need helping keeping up with a conversation.
Anyway, Lisa claims that she knew Adriana would appear at any moment, so she wasn’t talking behind Adriana’s back. That fact was common knowledge at the time, Adriana was on her way, and I don’t honestly think Lisa meant any harm. She immediately addressed the situation as soon as Adriana arrived. I believe her when she says that she “simply wanted to get it out into the open while giving [Adriana] a fair opportunity to tell her side of the story.”
Lisa then addresses the change in friendship between herself & Joanna. Last season they seemed to be two peas in a pod. However, Lisa points out that she often feels their friendship is one-sided. In my opinion, Lisa has been a very good friend to Joanna, for example hosting Joanna’s PETA shoot. “When something or someone is important to you, you make the time and effort.” I know how it can feel when you’re always there for someone but they don’t seem to have time to listen to your problems. I hope that Lisa can express these feelings to Joanna in the future & that Joanna will be receptive.
Lisa pulls a quote from the Jill handbook, calling herself a “connector,” though I don’t think she means it in the egotistical, I-know-everyone-worth-knowing way that Jill did. I think that Lisa just wants everyone to get along & will do whatever she can to make that happen. “It’s also not enjoyable have to listen to every side repeatedly.” I can’t imagine how old it must get to hear everyone’s side of every story over & over. I like the idea of getting everyone together to hash things out at once, though she might be a bit over-optimistic when it comes to Lea & Adriana. She notes that all of their silly fights become insignificant when you compare them to what Marysol is going through with Elsa.
