I Dream of Nene Part Two plus Should we feel sorry for Melissa Gorga? by NMD
Jezebel has posted an insightful review of Melissa Gorga’s new book. Most of us have read the first chapter – because it was available online free of charge. The reviewer for Jezebel read the entire thing, and the summary was one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever read. You can read the review here. Either Melissa is the most manipulative sneak we’ve ever come across, or Joe has such control over her she thinks he’s normal. Here’s some insight into his violent streak:
“If he gets one ounce of flack from me, he flips a switch and goes off. I know it’s not really about me, so I don’t get riled up. I supposed I could get angry back him for getting the bulk end of his problems. But then again, that’s what a spouse is for. You get to release your stress on someone you trust, who you know won’t hold it against you. He’ like to yell at a colleague, client, or employee. But he yells at me and doesn’t screw up a business deal. I can take it.”
She uses sex to keep him moderately in line.
“In the beginning, Joe wanted to have sex every single day, at least once, if not twice or three times…If I didn’t give it to him once a day, he’d get upset. I can do something that pisses him off on a Monday, but if we had sex on Sunday night, it blows over more easily. But if we haven’t done it for two days and I give him attitude? It could be a huge fight.”
He seems to have her convinced that if she says “no” too much he’ll stray, and if he strays it’ll be her fault.
“The way I see it, if a wife is a puttana, her husband will never feel the urge to go outside the marriage to actual whores, or strip clubs. He won’t hit on women in bars, or drool over his friend’s girlfriends or the secretary. He’ll rush home to his wife, who makes sure he’ll have a good time (the best time) in the comfort of his own home.”
The entire article is full of disturbing quotes. It’s hard to believe that Melissa would pen this and Joe would approve it – unless she wanted to expose her nightmare life and he really can’t read. I now see why a publisher allowed it to go to press. It’s a ticking time bomb.
On the other side of the universe is NeNe Leakes –
As I watched NeNe prepare for her marriage to Gregg, I couldn’t help thinking about how strong and independent she is. The show started off with NeNe in New York in Donald Trump’s boardroom. She reminds us that she met the Donald when she was on Celebrity Apprentice. They have some sort of fake conversation about getting married – he’s clearly just there for the camera time. I struggled through this scene because the man disgusts me and I couldn’t care less what he has to say about anything, much less marriage. For whatever reason NeNe, who is executive producer on her show, thought we’d be interested.
Gregg and Peter Thomas are driving somewhere, and having a man talk about all their kids. Peter is a soft hearted ass. He’s also dad to five kids outside of his marriage to Cynthia Bailey (who has a daughter). He says that if he has to choose between his kids and his wife he chooses his kids – 10 out of 10 times. Gregg says he’s never choose – he’d just manage the situation. For Gregg that means keeping them separate.
NeNe is back in the ATL and she gently confronts Gregg about not talking to her since they met with the therapist. He says he needed time to “percolate”. She explains that’s not good enough, he needs to communicate. I’m wondering what NeNe would say about Melissa Gorga’s book and what advice she’d give her. I’d love to hear it.
But back to NeNe and Gregg. He says he’ll bring NeNe and the kids together – and she voices over that the meeting will be moderated by the therapist. NeNe has a scene with her youngest son Brent, who is getting all grown up. Wowza. He was home schooled last year when they were bi-coastal, but wants to go to regular school. She explains that he can stay in ATL with Gregg then, but she has a job that requires her to work on the west coast. He says that’s not good – she’s more fun than his dad. It was cute because like I said – he looks all grown up but he’s still a kid inside. I love that age!! NeNe voices over that she’s a mom and takes that seriously, but she also has a career and takes that seriously as well. Again I think about Melissa Gorga and the comparison.
Gregg also meets with his brother and sister. He hasn’t seen them for five years. They are happy to reconnect, and they all promise to keep in touch weekly from now on. Apparently Gregg went MIA for the last five years (since he’s been on the show??) but wants to be a decent brother again. They seem like great people and his brother tells him to work out all his issues before getting married again – to make sure the marriage is strong.
Disclaimer. I had a long work day yesterday and got home late after a night meeting. I only had time to watch the show once, and missed some of it. But of course I have no idea what I missed so I won’t be able to fill in the gaps. I’m afraid you’ll have to bear with my excuses for a while longer – my schedule is crazy crazy.
NeNe is at lunch with three of her bridesmaids – Diana (she was the one who went to Miami to argue with Kim that year), Cynthia Bailey, and Marlo Hampton. Diana and Marlo get into a huge fight – NeNe is just sitting there annoyed, and Cynthia has to take charge and tell them to knock it off. At one point Cynthia says “this is about NeNe” and Marlo snaps back – “No, It’s about me.” Oh my. As expected, Marlo trash tweeted Diana all night.
Later NeNe and Diana are driving, and NeNe is trying to get Diana to back off. It turns out Diana wants to be maid of honor and not in the masses of bridesmaids with Marlo. NeNe says hell no – she’s not going to give anyone that honor. I’m afraid I missed the meeting with Gregg’s children. NeNe tells us that two of the kids were older and out of the house when she married Gregg, but he had custody of three of them. Then one day he didn’t and there was no explanation. She also makes it clear that she didn’t break up the marriage. The oldest son has been vocal about her (not positive) and the previews show him saying things in a loud voice. I suspect all is better now. Not one mention of NeNe’s sisters. That’s probably because she’s executive producer of the show and didn’t want it mentioned.
Throughout the time she was filming this, they were tweeting back and forth trash tweeting. NeNe pulled in 1.5 million viewers last week with this show. That’s more than Kim’s spin off, more than Tamra over the last few weeks – although Tamra did well – in the 1.2 million viewer range – and far more than Kandi’s unsuccessful Kandi Factory.
I’m curious if this will really wrap up in three episodes or if I just assumed that because that was Tamra’s formula. We’re no where near the wedding yet – still working on the marriage. Gregg must love NeNe to the ends of the earth to bare his personal business like this on national TV. I’m not sure if it was necessary – she must have had enough drama with Marlo alone to keep us interested – but I am enjoying a deeper, more substantive housewives show. I definitely wish I could dream of NeNe, and wipe the Gorgas out of my brain, but I’m afraid Melissa’s situation has gotten under my skin.

Real Housewives of Miami – S3E07
“La La Land”
This week begins with Joanna, Lisa & Lea’s trip to Los Angeles for wedding planning. Lea is all dressed up for the flight, while Joanna & Lisa are a little more low-key. Holy cow – Lea’s ring is ridiculous! I would be nervous wearing a diamond that size in public! Mimosas are flowing on the flight, so I’m sure this will be an interesting trip. There’s some fun footage of the ladies being silly on the plane. Lea tells us that they spend the summer at their house in LA, but it’s more laid back because she doesn’t have to manage a staff or charity. Her life in LA is “scaled down.” I think Lea’s definition of “scaled down” is a little different than mine. Joanna also leads a “bicoastal life” due to her work.
Lisa has three suitcases for three days, she has not yet “mastered the art of packing.” The ladies get a tour of Joanna’s house, which is beautiful! It’s much more homey than the Miami house. As we learned in her blog last week, Joanna has begun an animal rescue organization. It seems like she’s keeping all of the rescue animals in her house for now. Lea is staying at her own house, which is over the hill from Joanna’s. Slight dig there as Lea implies that her house is in a more desirable location than Joanna’s. I’m not sure what it is about Lea that makes her feel the need to constantly remind us how important, wealthy & fabulous she is.
Back in Miami, Alexia is working on the cover shoot for the celebrity issue of her magazine. Peter is there, working as a photographer. Alexia is trying to give him more responsibility to counteract his destructive behavior. She admits that she’s guilty of spoiling her children to make up for the lack of a father-figure in their lives. The shoot is going well until a taxi drives by. The driver flipped off Peter, Peter chased down the taxi & hit the vehicle. The driver gets out & Peter starts yelling obscenities. He comes off like a spoiled rich kid looking for trouble. Alexia says that she needs Peter to take responsibility for his actions, but she covers for him when the police arrive. That isn’t really making him take responsibility for his actions.
Joanna, her mother & Lisa are having cocktails outside around the fire pit that Joanna can’t seem to light. Joanna’s mother lives in the LA house. Their conversation, as typically happens with Joanna, turns to sex. Lea joins them the next day to scout a wedding location. Lisa is a little hurt that she hasn’t been asked to be a bridesmaid yet. They get to the location of the ceremony. The view is stunning. Lea gets emotional thinking about Joanna’s story – the Polish girl who arrived in America with nothing & made it big. I’ll admit that it’s a pretty impressive story, I just wish Joanna was a little more humble & less in your face about her struggles.
Adrianna is at her ceremony location too. The ballroom reminds her of Versailles. Frederic is happy because it reminds him of home. Adriana announces that, between the church and the reception, guests will be required to change into 1920’s attire. Seriously? You expect your guests to dress up like Great Gatsby for the reception? The wedding planner takes that idea much better than I would have, simply saying that she’d never heard of that before. Alex asks the practical question – where will everyone change, in their car? The wedding planner solves that quickly – there is a room available upstairs for guests to change.
At lunch in LA, Joanna asks if Lisa plans to be in Adriana’s wedding. Like Adriana, she gives an ultimatum – Lisa must pick one of the weddings. Joanna refuses to share Lisa as a bridesmaid. That’s just immature – can’t Lisa be friends with everyone? The ladies make a stop in a jeweler’s to shop for Joanna, but Lea & Lisa . This is what I love about this show – getting to see the extravagant lifestyles that these women lead!
Alexia tells her mother about Peter’s explosion during the photo shoot. She agrees to have a conversation with Peter in front of her mother, the psychiatrist. That way her mother can help determine where the communication issues lie. Peter starts by saying that he didn’t know his father until he was 5 and Alexia points out that is because his father was in jail. Alexia kept that information from her children & Peter only learned of it last year. Peter seems really hurt that no one told him the truth about his father, but Alexia doesn’t understand how knowing about his father’s past would have made a difference. Peter blames Alexia for keeping the information from him. He says that his father has talked to him about it, indicating that the two still have a relationship. Peter says that he’s a “little replica” of his father, and that it hurts when Alexia talks about badly about his father. Alexia apologizes for speaking badly about Peter’s father. It’s obvious that Alexia was simply trying to protect her children. Her mother offers confidential sessions to Peter.
Back in LA, Lisa arrives at Lea’s house. Her house is much more modern than Joanna’s. Lea says that this house is more her taste. It’s somewhere she can relax & host fabulous parties for her celebrity neighbors. Personally, I like Joanna’s house much more than Lea’s. Maxime arrives with his huge collection of Birkins. Lisa wants Lea to help her get another Birkin bag. It’s explained to us that you have to be an established customer with Hermes to get a Birkin. Lisa is not yet, but hopes to become one. Lea makes a call & Lisa will have her blue Birkin within a few days.
Meanwhile, Joanna & her mother are wedding dress shopping. Joanna wanted her dress to show some leg & boobs. Her mother wants something more traditional. Joanna’s dress will be traditional, but short in the front. On to dinner at Koi with Joanna’s LA friends. She says that her friends in LA are different than her Miami friends. Her LA friends have all accomplished something on their own – little dig! Is she implying that the Miami women haven’t accomplished anything? I think Joanna speaks before she thinks. Two of the three ladies are bridesmaids. One of them announces that she has recently purchased a dog, which thrills Joanna. I thought Joanna was all about rescuing animals, not purchasing them? Joanna reiterates that Lisa can’t be a bridesmaid for both Joanna & Adrianna. Joanna’s mother tries to reason with Joanna, telling her that she’s not being nice & that there’s no reason Lisa can’t be in both. Joanna needs some time to think about it.
