Real Housewives of Miami – S3Ep12
“Bridesmaid Breakdown” by HydrangeaHussy
This week promises to bring another confrontation between Adriana & Lea, as well as some bridezilla behavior from Joanna. I’m hoping that the lead-up to Joanna’s wedding will have a little more punch than Adriana’s, which was disappointing to say the least. To be honest, I just can’t get invested in this season at all. I highly recommend NMD’s opinion on why this franchise hasn’t taken off like the others.
We begin with Joanna making wedding plans. She keeps getting calls from vendors in LA about the wedding. I know that it’s hard to plan a wedding from a different location, but doesn’t she have a wedding planner to coordinate all of this? She tries to decide if she wants to add a floating runway & florals to her wedding, which will double the floral budget. Who needs an 80-foot floating runway? She doesn’t have time to be in LA before the wedding, which stresses her dress designer. Now there’s an issue with the number of guests. The venue just isn’t big enough. She leaves a voicemails for Romain & Marta, super pissed that they didn’t answer. Joanna comes off like a spoiled child, expecting everyone to drop what they’re doing for her.
The World of Lea Black is in full swing. Lea describes her vision as helping women look good, feel good, have fun, be fabulous & have a wonderful life. Her line currently includes facial products & handbags. Lea is making plans to expand her facial care internationally. She says that people are amazed that she looks so good without surgery. Hmm…I didn’t know who she was before this show, so I’m not sure the average person is going to trust her skin care expertise. Her handbags are large & sparkly, not really my cup of tea.
Lisa & Adriana are visiting Alexia at home. Note the blue birkin! Lisa tells the ladies about Lea’s huge family in Texas. In the TH, Lisa notes that Lea doesn’t like people to know how emotional she is. Adriana is hurt that Lea never told her about her family, despite their long friendship. Adriana says that she wishes the two could move forward. Lisa says that she thinks Lea is also upset by the rift, but doesn’t want to admit it. She & Alexia agree that the women need to talk & try to move on. Alexia points out that they should be careful not to dwell on the past.
Lea has her handbag launch party at Rene Ruiz. It reminds me of the launch parties held by other housewives (Ramona’s skin care, Lynne’s cuffs & Gretchen’s bags) for products that never really took off. There are only two bags for sale on Lea’s website right now. Joanna attends, even though she’s super stressed about the wedding. Lisa & Alexia also show up to support Lea. Alexia makes a good point – Lea doesn’t even like fashion! Remember when she tried on clothes over her clothes? Lisa chooses this moment to bring up the rift with Adriana. Not the time I would have chosen, as it’s supposed to be Lea’s party. Lea says that she doesn’t want Lisa involved. She gets defensive when Lisa brings up the wall that Lea puts up.
Lisa runs to Joanna to talk about Lea’s refusal to talk. Lea is called over & states her position. Joanna questions why Lisa is playing the peacemaker. Again, Joanna gets very upset about a situation that doesn’t involve her at all. Joanna then goes off on her own issues with Adriana. Alexia notes that Joanna loses control when someone disagrees with her or doesn’t back her 100%. I agree! Joanna always has to be involved & cause a scene. She needs the attention. Joanna has turned a situation that didn’t involve her into a screaming match at Lea’s party. I agree with Lisa that everyone needs to grow up, but she needs to include herself in that statement. All of these women need to mind their own business. Lea tries to explain that she will handle her relationships herself, but Lisa doesn’t seem to hear it. Lisa leaves & is followed by Alexia. I think both women were being unreasonable. Lisa brings up the hassle of Joanna’s wedding, Joanna says that Lisa’s pouting, I’m exhausted. Lea tells Alexia that she is open to hearing what Adriana has to say.
At home, Joanna vents to Romain about her fight with Lisa. She says that Lisa was protecting Adriana. I’m not sure that’s what happened. Lisa was trying to make peace between Lea & Adriana. She wasn’t defending Adriana’s actions, though she did get very defensive when Joanna started yelling. Joanna was the one who kept bringing up the past, which she claimed to be over. It’s amazing how quickly things spiral out of control. Joanna realizes that she blows up when angry. She then moves on to how overwhelmed she is because Romain hasn’t helped with the wedding & Marta hasn’t visited. Romain tells Joanna that she can’t blame Marta’s absence on him. He also points out that she is probably taking her stress out on Lisa.
Lea is throwing a party to unveil the renovation of her ballroom. All of the ladies attend. The ballroom looks amazing. I love how open & airy it is. They move on to the kitchen, which has been opened up as well. What a difference lighter colors make! Cue the celebrity name-dropping – the guest of honor is country singer John Rich, who performs for the group.
As for Lisa & Joanna, Joanna admits that she over-reacting by cutting Lisa out of the wedding. She isn’t sure what to do about it. It seems to me that Joanna isn’t used to having to deal with the consequences of her actions. Lisa doesn’t want to confront Joanna at the party & tries to avoid her. Joanna pulls Lisa to the side to discuss their fight & hopefully make amends. Lisa doesn’t Joanna off lightly & makes Joanna admit that she lost her temper. Lisa tells her that she was very hurt by being kicked out of the wedding. Joanna apologizes & admits that she’s really upset with her sister, who isn’t coming to the bachelorette party. It’s nice to see Joanna taking some responsibility for her actions; I just wish she would think before she opens her mouth. There are only so many times that a person can forgive a huge blow-up.
Adriana is attending because she misses her friendship with Lea. Both women seem to be going into this party with good intentions & with some admissions of fault on both sides. Adriana is greeted warmly. Alexia tells Lea that Adriana feels truly sorry & that the women should truly forgive each other. Lea tells Adriana that she has moved on & that she wants everyone else to. They walk away from the group to talk privately. Lea doesn’t want to feel snubbed by Adriana every time that they meet. Adriana says that is because she feels Lea is being phony. Lea admits that is maybe true because she feels Adriana is listening to what others have to say. She admits to saying things about Adriana & apologizes. Adriana apologizes for letting Lea down with regard to Ana’s accusations. Adriana expresses her feelings without being confrontational. Both women are crying. This might be the most real that I’ve ever seen either of these women. It’s obvious that they truly cared about each other & had a real friendship. They agree to peace & move on.
Real Housewives of Miami – Blogs Blogged
Week 11 by HydrangeaHussy
The blogs are pretty short this week. This seems to happen later on in the season or when not much drama is going on. Again, nothing from Marysol this week.
“Lea’s Walk Down Memory Lane”
Despite her condescension toward all things Texas during the episode, Lea writes that “It was fun seeing family and some of my girlfriends from years back.” I’m still not convinced that Lea actually stayed friends with any of the women she had lunch with. It seemed like a set-up so Lea could show what a great business-woman she is. The whole thing appeared forced. “Now you all know I’ve worked my entire life — contrary to the hate club members who say I married for money.”
As we all saw, RJ is “mesmerized by the hats, boots, belts, and country music” of Texas. I think it’s great that Lea takes her son to see his family, but I wish she would tone down the critiques in front of him. “I had fun with Lisa, and my family loves her. RJ and she act like they have a sibling rivalry.” I thought it was cute to see Lisa & RJ interact. She’ll be a great mom someday.
“Meet Joanna’s New Puppy!”
“The best part of Romain’s surprise dinner was when he surprised me with little Darla, whom he rescued from the humane society in Miami.” Joanna tells us that she missed her dogs in LA, so Romain found a puppy for Miami. Glad to know that he adopted, rather than bought, the puppy. I can’t even imagine how Joanna would have reacted if the puppy came from a breeder. Unfortunately, “The plan to have her as our Miami dog didn’t work, because as soon as I brought her to visit the rest of the zoo in LA, they all got along so well and she loved her new brothers and sisters so much that I couldn’t bring her back to Miami to be alone without them.”
Though she didn’t mention it in her blog, Joanna commented on Lea’s trip home in an interview with OK Magazine. She says that she was surprised by how laid-back Lea’s family is. Though Lea’s family was never mentioned on the show before this episode, Joanna said that Lea did tell her about losing her sister in a car accident.
“Lisa Loves Texas”
Lisa begins by apologizes for the missing blog last week. She had a long week with WWHL & the Reunion filming. “The reunion, which is never fun to film, was stressful. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be home.” I’m sure the reunion was stressful. Lisa seems to be on everyone’s radar this season due to her involvement in all of the feuds.
“I had no idea that I would fall in love with Texas, but I did. The people in Texas and their southern hospitality truly remind me of my hometown Toronto, Canada.” Lenny has a connection to Texas as he “lived in Texas after beginning his medical career.” She tells us that he attended LSU Medical School (located in my hometown, Shreveport, Louisiana!) & did his surgical training in Dallas. “I mentioned that Lenny and I were having tension in our relationship. I wish I said that differently.” It’s always good to see a cast member look at her appearance on the show & admit that she was wrong. Oftentimes they just try to make excuses for their behavior. “For the most part I would say about 90% of the time my relationship with my husband is wonderful. Whenever you see something play out on TV, it just becomes magnified.”
Lisa comments on her increasingly close relationship with Lea. “I was flattered that Lea trusted me enough (even though she puts up walls occasionally) to go to Texas with her to meet her wonderful family.” Lea’s family did seem warm & welcoming. Lea keeps her past pretty quiet so I can see why Lisa was surprised to be invited to meet them. “I see where Lea gets her big heart from. I was also deeply saddened to discover that she had lost a sister not too long ago. My heart goes out to them.” I find it surprising that Lea & Lisa have such a close relationship, but Lea never mentioned her sisters or her sister’s death. “Meeting with her girlfriends in Texas was such beautiful, positive moment highlighting women empowering one another.” I agree that it is great to see women supporting & empowering each other. I just don’t think that’s what was going on. It seemed to me like a suck-up-to-Lea session. Lea has said that she doesn’t go back to Texas much, so I can’t imagine that she’s still close to these women.
“Alexia’s Anniversary Celebration”
“Sorry I have been missing in action!” Alexia also begins with an apology for her absence last week. Unlike Lisa, she addresses Adriana’s wedding since she didn’t write about it before. “As far as the wedding goes, it was beautiful and Adriana looked breathtaking.” No mention that Adriana kept everyone waiting for hours. Despite professing that she is friends with everyone, she seems to be much more forgiving of Adriana than Lea.
This episode saw Alexia & Herman celebrate their wedding anniversary. “Herman and I decided to invite our immediate family over for dinner at our home.” I thought it was nice to see the whole family celebrating. Interestingly, we saw Herman’s kids for the first time. “As a typical Cuban family, the dinner was all about eating, laughing, drinking, crying, and just inputting thoughts. It was so special for all of us to be there that night. I feel like we have been through so much as a family, so the celebration was much needed.” I would have liked to see them focus more on the marriage & celebration than Frankie’s recovery & Alexia’s past.
“I can feel Marysol’s pain, because I’ve been in a similar situation.” As I’ve said before, Marysol is lucky to have someone who understands what she is going through. She’s also lucky to have a friend who will stop celebrating with her family to be there for Marysol.
