Real Housewives of Atlanta – Has it Gone Too Far? by NMD
Phaedra is having an identity crisis. She thinks Aiden is a prince, and calls her younger son Mr. President. She’s enlisted the help of Dwight to throw an inaugural ball for the little one – that is half Presidential and half Royal. Because everyone knows Phaedra’s storyline is throwing fancy parties. Of course it’s difficult to watch this without wondering what Apollo is doing off-camera – allegedly.
Cynthia is glad that she and Peter share a workspace so that she can “download” gossip any time she needs to. Today they chat about Kandi saying she knew sketchy things about Peter’s past that she hasn’t shared with Cynthia. Peter is never one to back away from a challenge, so his chest puffs up and he says bring it on in a manly voice.
Kenya has given up on finding a husband – even though she claims to be dating someone. Her fake storyline is that she’s trying to get pregnant. Unfortunately, she gets the news that at 47 her eggs are diminished. The doctor seems sincere as she goes over the options for Kenya. For some reason, Kenya seems to think that a visit to a sperm donor bank is in order – because she was just told that her eggs were probably too old to produce a baby. I’d be confused if I believed any of this is real – but since I don’t – meh.
Next she takes Miss Laurence with her to a sperm bank. They start in on their lines when a hot man walks in and distracts them, and tries to sell Kenya on using his sperm. Run hot man, run. Hey – sperm costs $475 per sample. I thought you couldn’t sell human parts – or is that a Canadian thing. The people at the sperm bank know this is just for the cameras, and can barely keep a straight face as she lists off what she’d like in a donor. Instead, they give her essays to read and she nixes a candidate for poor grammar. Then we get a tour of the place, including a look through the microscope at sperm. A plus for originality. C minus for acting.
Kandi is meeting with her A-Team – Todd and Don Juan – to discuss the play. She still wants Porsha in the production – because you need another housewife to get maximum camera time. Don Juan isn’t convinced. Then someone brings up Chris Williams. This gives Kandi an opening to tell Todd that Natalie called him an opportunist (like she didn’t tell him that the night she got home.) It’s hard to take any of this seriously because Todd is sitting in an oversized hot pink chair as they are having this conversation, while Kandi is behind her desk acting very Donald Trumpish. Goodness those chairs are pink.
It’s inauguration time and only Kandi has shown up for the event – solo. Unfortunately that means she has to spend some time with Dwight, who asks to see her ring and then makes a sour face. I am so over these superficial fools. It’s a ring. She loves it. Get over it. The dance is a 2-step “flash mob”. Apollo refuses to take part in the nonsense, so Phaedra has to dance with Dwight, who drops her. Apollo doesn’t seem to understand that he’s got a microphone on, because every chance he gets he whispers complaints under his breath to Phaedra. Phaedra just ignores him. Then he refuses to make a toast, so she says -“for once Apollo is at a loss for words and I’m grateful.” If they were miserable before, I can’t imagine what is going on now that he’s been charged with fraud and identity theft. I guess they need to stay married so that they can’t testify against each other.
NeNe is throwing a “pillow talk” party for couples – although Porsha is there with her sister, and Lexi and Malorie are there solo. NeNe’s invited Chuck and Monique and Chris and Natalie as well. NeNe – who is usually quite prudish, has hired two scantily clad servers and is wearing a skimpy nighty. She prances around talking a mile a minute and mentions some of Kandi’s toys. Kandi interviews that NeNe seems “geeked” up – which I believe means high. She does seem off.
All is going sort of well – except that Kenya (miss I’m always on time) is late and Chris and Natalie are giving Kandi the stare down. Chuck and Monique are there as well, and apparently this is let’s get awkward night, because the game is to pull a question from a stack of cards and answer it. Guess what? “Are you comfortable being around someone who has slept with your partner” is one of the first cards drawn, and Kandi just shakes her head.
Q for Porsha – “would you be comfortable if your partner was bisexual.” At this point, everyone knows NeNe is stirring the pot.
One hour into the event, Kenya and Brandon show up. NeNe slams the door in her face and starts yelling at her in front of everyone. (Clue one that something has been planned).
Q – “would you judge your husband if he looked at another woman.” Porsha – I wouldn’t want my husband to go to a strip club. Peter jumps in and says he goes to strip clubs, and sees Apollo and Todd at strip clubs. Peter claims he looks but doesn’t touch, and Kandi says she’s seen women on his lap and doesn’t feel like covering up his lies. Cynthia is steaming.
Then all of a sudden Apollo jumps up and talks about how he was in a bad place when he got out of prison and spent every day in strip clubs. He’s all excited and talking really fast, and says he has the right to go to strip clubs and spend 3 or 4 thousand dollars of his own (allegedly stolen) money. He points to Phaedra and says it’s not her money. So where is he getting this money when he’s right out of prison. Oh wait – I think I know. Allegedly. Of course everyone has a problem with what he’s saying and begins to talk all at once with NeNe talking about hookers and blow jobs in strip clubs and says he should spend the money on his kids. But she’s proud of working in a strip club.
Natalie says Chris doesn’t have to go to strip clubs because she dances for him. Next Natalie brings up the “common law” wife thing and gets her finger all wagging as Chris tries to say that they’ve already talked about this. (Clue two that something has been planned.) Forced into a confrontation by Natalie, Chris walks over to Kenya to confront her. You can tell he’s psyching himself up for this. He starts to confront her, saying he doesn’t know what medications she’s on. She says – same as you, Chris. (She says to Brandon – “I thought we already talked about this.) Kenya stands up and starts to walk (not lunge but slowly walk) towards Natalie saying something like she’s not back peddling on what she said. That’s when Chris grabs her arm as if he wants her to confront him and not Natalie. Up until that point things have been very calm – in other words – the fight did not start because she stood up – it started when he grabbed her arm. As Chris grabs Kenya, Brandon gets up to get between them and defend her.
Then all of a sudden people are holding Brandon back – mainly Peter and Apollo, but Apollo is punching – really punching – Brandon, who is being held down on the couch by Peter. The crew and the rest of the men break them up. Brandon is in shock. He’s asking what happened in a dazed voice. (I think the poor guy is an actor and friend of Kenya’s and wasn’t expecting a real fight.) Chris is sort of calm, but Natalie turns around and starts to tell Brandon that it’s all his “friend’s” fault for what she said about her marriage to Chris in the vineyard. Natalie is a nut job IMHO.
(see detailed break down of the fight below)
Then NeNe starts to yell at Kenya and says it’s all her fault for standing up (Clue three that something was planned by Kenya went “off script.”). Sorry, but it’s NeNe’s fault for setting this up and lighting the fuse with her questions. But I’m still confused about why Apollo got into it. It’s like all his frustration against Kenya boiled over in roid-rage (allegedly) and he went into a bad place. Were charges filed?
Nene of course tried to take absolutely no responsibility:

Was it me or was big talking Chuck hiding behind his wife? Oh.

Just so we clear, I was trying to break up the fight. I’m holding 1 dude down thinking the other REAL MEN in the room would grab the other 1

Previews show Brandon explaining that his rib was broken and that’s an automatic felony. They also show the fight continuing. After Apollo takes off his mic he shrugs off all the men holding him back and it looks like he’s going to take another swing at someone. Todd and Kandi are fighting, and Kandi is yelling at Cynthia. What the heck is wrong with all of them? Did NeNe slip something into their drinks? Why were the men on WWHL last week??? I would not want to be around Apollo. Ever. Scary stuff.
Detailed breakdown from Pghemtchick:
Rewatched observations: play by play
*notation 1: Kenya appears to be on the floor on like a bean bag. She is significantly lower than those on the couch.
1. Apollo is jazzed up due to the strip club.
2. When Nene brings up Chris and relationships he puts his head down and scratches his head.
3. He then gets up to avoid being next to the GF.
4. Nene says “you leaving” he says no
5. Porsha gets up and says what sounds like Sir and “you must take your seat please” his woman says no he’s going to stand for this then Porsha smiles at Kenya.
6. Med comment made.
7. Gf says don’t back up now, Kenya gets up walks over saying she’s not backing up it’s front peddling. As she passed Chris he turns and grabs her under the elbow and pulls her back.
8. As she turns to say something Brandon gets up and as Kenya pulls away he pushes Chris’s hands off her saying not to touch her. Chris then grabs the friends arm restraining it and saying “Don’t you ever put your hands on me”. Peter gets up to separate them.
9. Peter breaks them apart. When Chris’s hold is broken on Brandon he does that lunge thing at him. Peter pushes him back trying to restrain him.
10. Apollo gets up and shoves Brandon down by the neck. He then starts punching Brandon (body punches to the body). Peter joins in like a little bitch and starts choking Brandon while Apollo beats him and Kenya and Phaedra try to pull Apollo off.
11. Greg and Todd take Chris out while other dude (white shirt chills).
12. Production steps in to hold back Kenya (she was pulled off Apollo’s shirt by production dude)in the corner and to hold back Brandon from going after Apollo when he finally leaves the room.
13. Production is holding Apollo aside. Kenya goes to look for Brandon.
14. Nene goes after Kenya.
*closed captioning put on now*
15. Interesting scene w/Apollo and Phea. His excuse is “Man that mother f**cker hit me in my mother f$$ckin eye”. (Great now I need to rewatch)
16. Producers let Apollo back in the main room.
Peter tells Todd ” you know the rules” Todd said “what rules”.
Watch What Happens Live with Cynthia
Andy asks Cynthia if she’s talked to Phaedra since the charges were filed. No – she hasn’t, but Peter has talked to Apollo and they think everything will be all right.
As for the fight – Cynthia apologizes on behalf of the entire cast. She thinks Kenya “started it” because they were all upset about the questions, but when Kenya got up then Brandon got up and then everyone else was standing and things got out of control. She also said that Peter wasn’t part of the fight, he was trying to hold Brandon back and didn’t realize Apollo was fighting until it was too late.
Andy asks if NeNe was an instigator. Cynthia starts off almost saying something about how it was shown (versus what really happened) but then backs up and says that the purpose of the party was to put everything on the table to move past things, and things were going fine until the fight started.
(Of course Cynthia is NeNe’s best friend and will see things the way NeNe sees them – so it makes sense that she’d answer like that.)
