Real Housewives of Atlanta – Angry NeNe Returns by NMD
NeNe has managed to hold it together this season, pretending to be above it all. It’s clearly an act – and tonight we see the return of ANGRY NENE – but first is the setup ….
Kenya drops by for a kiki with Marlo in Lawrence’s hair salon. Kenya is fully coiffed, but Marlo is getting her hair straightened. As Lawrence turns his attention to Kenya, I worry that Marlo’s hair is burning. Is that steam or smoke? In what is a completely non-scripted conversation, Marlo and Kenya talk about NeNe and their troubles with her. Marlo spontaneously tells us about her falling out with NeNe over being a bridesmaid – apparently they didn’t talk for a month. Kenya has an idea to make up with NeNe – she’s going to hold a charity event and donate all the proceeds to NeNe’s favorite charity. She’s sent her an e-vite and is sure she’ll come. Kill her with kindness she says. I almost feel sad for Kenya. It’s obvious no one else will film with her so she has to resort to Marlo for her scripted nonsense. But that is step one in her plan because she knows Marlo will be on the phone to NeNe the moment the cameras stop rolling.
Filler scene: It’s time for Kandi to continue her casting call. Porsha is up. Kandi has a history of taking her less than talented cast mates and given them an opportunity (Kim Zolciak anyone?). I guess it’s Porsha’s turn. Porsha can’t memorize a script, but she can knock out a tune. They make it seem like Porsha isn’t a shoe -in, but of course we know she is going to be in this play no matter what.
Next set up scene for the NeNe takedown: Kenya has found a bustier that is five sizes too small and squeezed her busom into it. She’s entertaining Cynthia and Mal (have you ever noticed that Mal stands on half step behind Cynthia at all times) and Marlo. Their job is to interview bachelors for the charity event. Cynthia makes them all take off their shirt because Peter is 52 and a massive disappointment to her. Unfortunately only six guys show up for the interview (and they aren’t that hot). Of course, this invests Cynthia into the event. That tidbit becomes important later.
Jumpy editing to the next step in the set up: Porsha has invited the girls to a party at the roller rink. What is she? 8? Porsha is on pins and needles until Kandi tells her she got the part – and Porsha doesn’t fail to disappoint by not even knowing the name of the character she’s been cast to play. Groan. Cynthia, Porsha, and Kenya give roller skating a try, while Phaedra and Kandi sit and judge. At least they showed up – NeNe refused to even come to the event. This is important because she isn’t there to hear Kenya’s apology, or get an in-person invitation to Kenya’s event.
Second story line: Kandi is watching Apollo’s video to get into shape when Carmen walks in. Someone’s been talking smack about Carmen and Todd, and Carmen called them to ask them to stop. In return she received a voice mail from mama Joyce that was hostile and threatening. Seems like mama Joyce is trying to set up Todd. Kandi is disappointed – again. I’m not sure what is more disturbing – Mama Joyce’s threats or her trying to frame Todd.
Mad NeNe makes an appearance. Cynthia has the bad luck to have to film with Mad NeNe. Mad NeNe is talking really quickly and claiming that she knows nothing about Kenya’s ball (charity event) and hasn’t had any contact with Kenya since PJ night, and does not want to go to the ball that everyone has told her about but she hasn’t heard about. Cynthia for some unfathomable reason really wants NeNe to go to Kenya’s ball. You see – Kenya’s ball is all about a charity NeNe supports so she HAS to go the ball that Kenya sent her the e-vite to or she’s letting everyone down.
Back to the other story line: In yet another unscripted conversation, Kandi and Todd sit down to talk things over. First Kandi tells us that Porsha’s lawyer has sent in a long list of demands if they want her to be in the play. Really? That has to be a joke. Then Kandi fills Todd in on the Carmen – Joyce drama. Todd is finally done. Joyce trying to set him up and take pictures of it is just too much. Todd tells Kandi she needs to check her mom. Kandi starts to cry and asks if Todd is going to leave her. Todd doesn’t fall for the crying, and tells her that no man is going to be in her life if she lets her mom set them up and show them disrespect. He suggests Kandi go to counseling to figure out how to deal with her mom. Kandi agrees. FINALLY!
Back to the set up: Kenya’s getting ready for her party when Cynthia calls and tells her that NeNe is thinking about not coming. Kenya is astonished, dismayed, and aghast. She can tell that NeNe opened the e-vite and had the audacity to ignore it and not even send an RSVP. Everyone else must have figured out what was going down, because Phaedra, Kandi, Marlo, and Porsha had RSVP’d NO – which left only Cynthia stuck in the middle of this hot mess.
Main Show: It’s the night of the ball and everyone is having a great time. They all look great too. The big question is – will NeNe show or not? Drum roll. SHE DOES! The producers must have forced her to come – but she interviews that Cynthia phoned her no less than 50 times begging her to go because the event was to honor NeNe. You see – NeNe has an ego. Unfortunately, even though she has somehow been convinced to come to the event, she’s already in a horrible mood. When Cynthia and Lexi try to tell her the event it to honor her – she explains that the event has NOTHING TO DO WITH HER. Sure – the charity Kenya picked is one she supports – but that’s about it.
Kenya is such a little sneak. She makes it seem like she’s all sweetness and bubblegum, as she gives a speech about the event and picking the charity because it’s one that NeNe supports. Then she calls NeNe up to the microphone to say a few words about the charity. This is when NeNe should have turned it around and been gracious. But no – she’s in a foul mood and makes the shortest, tersest speech in the history of housewives. Really NeNe? Never let them see you sweat!
Peter tells Cynthia he wants to leave. NeNe and Gregg decide to leave as well. It’s obvious NeNe thinks that Peter is on her side, but the second they are out of the main event he tells Cynthia that he thinks NeNe behaved horrendously. She overhears and storms over to confront him.
Now comes the fight between Peter and NeNe. In all fairness to Peter, he was quietly talking to Cynthia when NeNe stormed up and confronted him. Then she went off the wall and started yelling. And she’s a lot bigger than him. But still – he probably shouldn’t have gotten involved. NeNe tells him that “none of the bitches here are on the level I’m on and I’m not going to argue with them.” or I’m up here they’re down there. Ugh – that is NEVER a good thing to say when you are a housewife.
That’s Game and Set to Kenya. Let’s see who wins the match.
PS Tamara Tattles thinks that Kenya really is dating an African Prince. Go Figure. Here’s er blog on it.
