Flipping Out S7E8 “Out Of Bounds” by BB
Jeff’s Design Projects: Jeff and Jenni are at Lisa G’s and Gary’s house. She’s the client getting the exterior of her house done. Lisa has very limited tolerance or patience. Jeff is ready for it to be over because he has other more important jobs to do. Lisa thinks talking to the landscaper is very boring and she’s having a hard time making any decisions. I can identify with Lisa as I get impatient with the little details. I’m a big picture kind of person. Jeff is tired of waiting and he’s going to make some decisions for them. He wants this job finished and doesn’t want to have meetings every day.
At the La Mirada (Chaz Dean) site, Jeff is checking with Mark, the contractor, on progress. There is a time crunch and if everything is not done on time, there’s going to be a real problem. Jeff notices all the crews are not working that week (electrician, plumber, HVAC guys). Mark tells Jeff not to worry about it and there is not a problem. Jeff is worried that Mark doesn’t seem that worried about it.
At the office, Gage tells Jeff that Mark has requested an advance. Jeff says no, he’s not advancing anyone money for work that hasn’t been done. Next Mark submits a change order. Now Jeff has been driven over the edge by Mark. He tells everyone he wants them up Mark’s ass from that point on. Jenni calls it “Operation Terrorize.” Mark is not going to get away with anything. Andrew and Megan show up and nobody is at the work site, especially the HVAC guys, who are definitely supposed to be there. Andrew calls Jeff to inform him there is nobody there, even Mark. Andrew wants a promotion and he decides to focus on La Mirada to show Jeff he can do more. He keeps checking up on Mark for the next few days. When Jeff and Jenni check back after a couple of days, they are pleased with the progress that has been made. Andy’s constant pressure on Mark apparently worked. Chaz and Nuria are also pleased with the progress. Jeff thinks Andy is very good at what he does and gives him props for his handling of La Mirada.
Office HR Problems: Jenni’s back from maternity leave. Everyone seems to be seriously working at Gramercy when Jeff asks Jenni if her nanny is attractive and if she’s worried about her husband being around her. Now that Jenni has given birth, Jeff Lewis can do nothing to upset her. She refuses to answer Jeff’s rude questions. Later, Zoila is twerking and Jeff tells Jenni she hasn’t lost enough weight to be wearing tight dresses. Jenni tells Jeff to keep his thoughts to himself. She has a baby now. She’s used to screaming, fits of rage, and anger. She’s stepped from one colicky baby at home to another at work, that’s all.
Jeff’s paint line has taken off and he needs additional office help to deal with it. He hires an intern, Romy, to assist with the paint company work. Gage shows her where to sit. She is asked if she has a boyfriend and if she’s on birth control, and warned not to get pregnant. The staff, including Jeff, talks about Jenni’s birthing experiences (tearing) and her taking a lot of potty breaks. Jeff tells Romy the bathroom rules (including no number two allowed). At lunch, they discuss Vanina’s breast implants, penis reduction surgery and wet t-shirt contests, in front of Romy. Romy quits after the first day. I can’t say that I blame her.
Jeff asks Megan to research ordering him some Ralph Lauren underwear online. Jeff goes to get a sample of what he wears and proceeds to put them on Megan’s head. He tells her he wore them to the gym that morning and they’re sweaty. Jenni thinks the HR position is no longer a joke and all the joking could turn into a lawsuit. This is the final straw for Jenni and unless Jeff changes his behavior, she will resign from the HR position.
Jeff and Jenni meet with Dr. Donna, Jeff’s therapist, to discuss Jeff’s inappropriate behavior in the office. Jeff calls Jenni a buzzkill. Jenni gives Dr. Donna some examples of what’s been going on. Dr. Donna calls it a hostile environment. Jeff is setting the tone for everyone and Dr. Donna calls it abusive. He’s setting a very bad example as the office leader. Dr. Donna tells them to have a meeting to let the staff know what is and isn’t disrespectful. Jeff and Jenni know the staff is not going to take them seriously. Jeff knows he needs to change and has become more self-aware. Jenni doesn’t know if he will actually implement the changes needed.
Jeff and his family go out for a boat ride with Jeff’s dad’s attorney for his birthday. Jenni and Jonathan are also invited. Jeff’s family is very outspoken and talks openly about anything. Jenni notes the difference between what’s appropriate among family and what’s appropriate in a business environment. Next week’s Human Resources meeting with the staff should be very interesting.
Southern Charm S1E8
“One Of The Lost Boys Leaves Netherland”
It’s the season finale, and I’m disappointed! They may be over-the-top southern stereotypes, but I’ve come to enjoy the little glimpses of the south that I know & love. The central storyline has revolved around Kathryn Dennis, who isn’t even a main character! Last week, Whitney (aka Chuck Bass) admitted to TRav (Kathryn’s BF) that he did, in fact, hook up with Kathryn. As much trash as Whitney talks about Kathryn, I have to wonder why he didn’t fess up from the beginning to ruin the relationship. I don’t understand Whitney. He claims to be TRav’s friend & only want the best for him, takes every opportunity to offer unsolicited advice, and then lies to his face. Not my idea of a good friend.
Anyway, Whitney has pulled TRav aside just before bedtime & admitted to the hook up. Whitney keeps saying that he feels bad for lying & that he didn’t want to hurt TRav. But he’s said many things to hurt TRav & hasn’t blinked an eye. Whitney then uses the opportunity to warn TRav away from Kathryn in terms of politics. Why isn’t TRav more upset that Whitney, his so-called-friend, lied to him repeatedly?
The other kids are hanging out in the back of an SUV & talking about the future. Craig asks about a nearby town & the crew is confused as to why he’s asking. He explains that he was planning to invite a girl, but told her that it was a guys only weekend. He’ll make up for it later. Which I’m sure will go well, until she sees that he lied to her & then admitted it on national TV.
Kathryn approaches Whitney & TRav, just as Whitney is telling TRav (again) to use good judgment. The two go to bed to have a “chit-chat.” Anytime a guy wants to have a chat, it’s never good. TRav says that he wants to go to sleep, but sits in the bed in his clothes. He asks Kathryn if she has anything to tell him. She says no & gets out of bed. She’s behaving very defensively, but denies knowing what TRav is referring to. She says that she won’t defend herself against something she didn’t do. TRav, point blank, tells her that he knows about her & Whitney. Took him long enough to get to the point! Isn’t that what guys complain about? Kathryn looks “shocked” & asks if TRav believes it. She never denies it. Poor Kathryn, her past is coming back to haunt her. In such a small group, you can’t hide forever. She finally admits to hooking up with Whitney after TRav left her. Despite her constant lies, he holds her while she cries about it. Seriously? Why does he let people close to him continually lie to him?
In the morning, the girls are the first ones up. Craig has left his mud covered high-tops outside, so the girls hand them from a tree. Whitney now realizes that telling his great friend, TRav, was the way to go. Whitney sees this as TRav’s way out of the relationship. I don’t see TRav walking away so easily. Everyone loads up to go home. Shep is relieved that it was a calm, successful weekend. Danni remains behind to help Shep clean up the cabin. They seem to be slipping back into a relationship. I hope that she isn’t sticking around in the hopes that Shep will change. She seems like a sweet girl.
In the car, the group (minus TRav & Kathryn) are laughing about Whitney’s hook-up with Kathryn. He says that it was just an after-thought, not even a moment of passion. I feel bad for this girl. She’s just getting used all over the place. Cameran jokes that Kathryn should go on Maury. Or should she go on Jerry? TRav seems ok with the hook-up since it didn’t happen when they were together. Kathryn feels like Whitney is trying to sabotage their relationship. TRav sees Whitney’s admission as integrity. But he doesn’t seem all that concerned by the original betrayal. As the older & wiser party, TRav thinks that he knows what’s going on. I’m not sure about that. He’s mad that Kathryn lied, but not that Whitney did. They weren’t together, who she slept with shouldn’t matter. But didn’t Whitney break the man-code by hooking up with TRav’s ex?
Back in Charleston, Whitney has Shep over to give him the bad news about the restaurant. Shep doesn’t seem concerned that nothing is happening on the restaurant front. Whitney points out that his heart isn’t in it & that he’s been talking to other people. Shep is hurt that Whitney is moving forward without him.
Whitney brings his mother to see the bachelor pad. She is not impressed. She knows that he likes the architecture, but calls it a dump. She thinks the furniture came from Salvation Army. Look, there’s not wrong with getting your furniture at the Home Depot. I like Whitney’s place. It’s spacious & full of natural light. Patricia just wants her baby home with her.
Craig is off to pick up a date, Karen. She’s wearing red because it’s his favorite color. They’ve dated on & off. Craig doesn’t think that she’ll take him seriously until he matures a little. He likes that she is also career-minded. They talk a little about the future. Craig loves litigating, but also wants to have a family. He’s 25 now, but doesn’t see himself settling down for another 8-10 years. I’m a lawyer & I’ll admit that it’s very difficult to start a successful litigation career & also have any semblance of a life. I’ve chosen to leave private practice so that I’m not chained to my phone (& clients) 24/7. While I’m on the rant – his chosen path – a litigator because he likes being in court. The vast majority of attorneys spend little time in a courtroom. It’s not like Suits or the Good Wife.
TRav goes to meet with his pastor. His family has attended the church since the late 1600’s. To have gone to the same church for generations is a very Southern thing. TRav feels pressured because he’s the last Ravenel & has already tarnished his family name. The pastor is also familiar with Kathryn’s family. Also very Southern – to have people be familiar with your family name & inquire about “your people.” TRav admits to some anxiety about Kathryn. His pastor tells him that his head is more important than his heart. Very good advice! TRav feels pressured to settle down & have children. His pastor points out that it will be difficult to keep up with a young woman in the future. Why hasn’t TRav been talking to his pastor instead of Whitney?
Whitney is having a housewarming party. TRav is concerned that Kathryn may not be comfortable there, but she has no shame. Whitney is shocked that TRav hasn’t broken up with Kathryn. I’m surprised TRav hasn’t broken up with Whitney. Shep is all decked out for the 4th of July. He’s brought 2 girls & Danni is there. Recipe for disaster. I’m sure that all of these girls didn’t enjoy being on an episode of the bachelor, especially when Shep is the prize. Poor Shep is confused as to why Danni is upset. She points out that he’s invited a harem. She tries to explain how immature & short-sighted he is in general. She feels like he has potential for success, but Shep sees success differently. It’s easy to view success as having a good time when someone else is footing the bill for your life.
Never one to let a good time pass, Shep directs everyone to the roof for fireworks & sparklers. TRav & Whitney remain inside. TRav isn’t sure where his relationship is going, he just wants his personal life in order so he can follow his political dreams. Whitney wants to see his friend succeed. Even though he’s done everything in his power to put his friend down. Why does TRav appreciate this guy?!? Jenna’s man is in Nantucket with his family. Spending time away from him has made her realize that she wants to be with him. Whitney comes upstairs to play the guitar for everyone. I’m sure his neighbors are going to love him!
TRav needs to talk to Kathryn face-to-face. Uh oh. He’s been thinking about who he wants to settle down with. He tells her that loves & respects her. TRav tears up as he tells Kathryn that sometimes love & chemistry aren’t enough. The two are in different places & he doesn’t think they’ll last. Kathryn loves him regardless of his age. Wow, just like that, it’s over. Kathryn collects her computer & leaves. I hope she got the rest of her stuff that she’d moved in. As we all know, this isn’t really the end for TRav & Kathryn as they have a beautiful new baby!!!
