S6E6 “The Family Business”
This week we begin with the Gorgas at the car dealership. Melissa wants to overhaul the big, blue garbage truck that Joey purchased. She thinks that the motto “going green gives you wings” is great and wings could be added to the truck. The dealer isn’t impressed. He suggests painting the truck black and adding a logo. It looks professional, much more so than if it had wings.
Amber and her kids are making cookies. She still feels betrayed by the twins and Melissa, so she’s focusing on family. Amber is using a house-shaped cookie to explain that their dad helps people buy homes. A group of media people arrives to preview the commercial that the family shot. We’re treated to the cheesy commercial for Jim’s quickie-loan company. Amber doesn’t care if her acting was good, as long as she spent time with her family. Hmmm, I’d be more concerned about the acting if it were my commercial.
Rino is at work. His family arrived in the US in 1969 and have been in the restaurant business ever since. Rino and Teresa A. took on the renovation of his family’s restaurant, Ponte Vecchio, in Brooklyn and he’s proud of their work. It was nice to see him walking around, greeting customers and having fun at work. If you don’t love what you’re doing, the money isn’t worth it. The twins have invited everyone to dinner. Well, everyone except Amber.
The twins tell Melissa that they haven’t spoken to Amber. She tells them about lunch and that Amber didn’t apologize. Melissa doesn’t feel bad about telling Nicole what Amber said. She wants to get out of the situation. It’s between Nicole and Amber now. Nicole says that she would forgive Amber if she apologized. I don’t see that happening, but stranger things have happened. Nicole agrees to meet with Amber.
Nicole is all over Bobby before dinner. She’s been more expressive of her love since Amber’s comment that Bobby wouldn’t marry her. Juicy arrives with some home-made wine for Rino. Kathy brought cannolis. Rosie has brought her new girlfriend, Ellen. She seems really happy and says that they are really comfortable together. Ellen is the girl that Richie introduced Rosie to at a bar last season. The two take some good-hearted teasing and seem to really care about each other. I’m glad to see Rosie happy. They’ve been together the same amount of time as Nicole and Bobby. Rosie makes a toast to Ellen, thanking her for inspiring some change and for being a wonderful friend. I like the softer side of Rosie!
After her divorce, Nicole had to find a more lucrative job to support her family. She is a private jet broker, making all of the travel arrangements for the wealthy. She’s one of the most successful jet brokers. Nicole calls Amber from her office to invite her to lunch. Amber seems hesitant, but Nicole assures her that they need to clear the air. Amber is worried that Nicole will get aggressive in a restaurant, but Amber is the one who gets defensive on the phone. Nicole makes is clear that she is upset that her reputation is being smeared. Nicole tells her that she’s at work and isn’t going to argue right now. They agree to meet for lunch.
At Teresa’s house, Milania is causing trouble. It’s Gia’s 13th birthday and Teresa wants to know what her friends at school did to celebrate. Gia is a typical teenager and wants her mom to leave her alone. Teresa sees some of herself in Gia. She’s proud of the young woman that Gia is becoming. Gia didn’t want a party and Teresa is respecting that. She and Juicy give her a ring, which belonged to Teresa’s mother. It’s a huge diamond ring! Teresa gives Gia & Juicy their own time. Juicy notes that she is the oldest and is a role model for the younger girls. He wants her to stay on track. It’s really sweet to see Gia opening up to her father. She admits that she has kissed a boy, but won’t tell Juicy who it was. I can’t believe how much she has grown up.
Teresa A. and Rino are visiting their new restaurant site to check on construction. Taking over an existing location is easier and less expensive, but they couldn’t find a location that they liked. Rino says that he hopes to leave this restaurant to his son – he sees this as a learning experience. Teresa will run the front. Teresa’s father is a builder, so he’s helping with the construction.
Joey and Melissa are going to the destruction facility. He wants her to understand the business so she can effectively sell it. Joey thinks that having a beautiful woman selling his product will bring in business. They tour the facility with a “scientist,” who shows them a device that burns the waste instead of burying it in a landfill. The gas spins a turbine, which produces power. Melissa follows him around with a blank stare. She’s never met a real-life scientist before. The scientist isn’t convinced that Melissa understood him. I’m not either.
Teresa is visiting Dina to make a vision board. She made a vision board when she was married to Lexi’s father. When they divorced, she paced the board away. Years later, she found it and the board had everything that she wanted on it. She wants Teresa to imagine where she and Juicy will be in the future. She’ll then put everything on the board to focus on the future. Teresa appreciates that Dina is trying to lift her spirits. Teresa has been looking at new, smaller homes because the court case has been financially draining. Is she really being responsible about money? I’m impressed!
Teresa A’s son is learning to drive in the city. She feels like she did a good job raising him. She admits that she freaked out a little in the car. They meet Rino for desert. Gio will be graduating soon and plans to go into the restaurant business. Rino is really proud of his son. They discuss the future of the New Jersey restaurant. Rino plans to pass the baton to Gio once he learns the ropes.
Finally, we get to the meeting between Amber and Nicole. Amber has Jim drop her off. She thinks that Nicole is a good person, but has a lot of bad around her. Jim calls her a “Shakespearean tragedy.” I wonder if his BFF Bobby knows that he talks badly about Nicole. Bobby drops Nicole off. Tensions are high because Nicole doesn’t know if she’s getting nice Amber or nasty Amber. Amber is glad that they’re meeting. Nicole says that she’s over the anger and is now just hurt. She asks why Amber, who was supposedly a friend, would slander her name. Amber gets defensive, and says that they “were” friends. The past tense isn’t lost on Nicole. Amber says that she wants to go way back and that she heard from many people that Nicole had an affair. Nicole says that is a lie, but Amber refuses to call it that. Wow, way to believe a rumor over your supposed friend. I would be pissed if a friend listened to nasty rumors about me and didn’t stick up for me. Nicole is sad that Amber doesn’t believe her. She wants to focus on Melissa telling the Nicole, rather than admit that she was wrong to perpetuate rumors. Nicole points out that Amber would want to know if a friend was talking behind her back, but Amber keeps the focus on Melissa. She admits that she told Melissa about the rumor, but it wasn’t in a malicious way. To me, it doesn’t matter why or how it was said – if my friend repeated a nasty rumor about me, they were in the wrong, period. Nicole points out that it was wrong of Amber to repeat and perpetuate the rumor. Amber doesn’t feel bad about hurting Nicole, despite saying that she does. Her whole demeanor shows that she doesn’t think she did anything wrong. She admits that she shouldn’t have repeated the rumor, but says that Nicole was wrong for not hearing Amber’s side first.
Nicole tells Amber that she was really hurt her when Amber said that Bobby wouldn’t marry her. Amber, rather than apologize, says that she only said it out of anger but that Nicole knows it was true. They’ve only been together nine months! Geez, give the relationship some time! Nicole says that things are good between them. Amber keeps talking about how Bobby doesn’t really love Nicole and how he’s talked about Nicole to her. Amber apologizes, though I’m not sure I believe her. Nicole hopes that things will move forward in a good direction. Nicole believes that Amber is truly sorry.
This week we find the family and Lana are gathered around the island in the kitchen. Lana is the nanny for the boys, KJ and Kash. She’s worked for them 2 years. She’s of Bulgarian decent and has a bit of an accent and an endearing difficulty with words at times. What we’ve seen so far in the season, Kim is attached to her like a family member.
Lana is listening to a motivational speaker recording. The gang in the kitchen wants to know why she listens to that. Lana says it can make you happy. Kim is thinking Lana needs a man to make her happy and not all that talk. Kroy asks if she’s tried speed dating. Lana says, “oh no!” Brielle points out that Lana has big boobs, so why not wear something low cut and show them off. Yes, the 17 year old suggested that. Lana recoils at the cleavage suggestion, saying it’s disgusting. Meanwhile, I found myself distracted by Kim’s breasts during this scene, so I guess I’m disgusting too.
Kim is suggesting to post on Instagram and Lana is trying to pose for a selfie. Brielle told Lana she needs to put on a seductive look. Kim’s eyes shoot directly at Brielle threatening her against making seductive looks of her own. Kim might find out more about Brielle from this discussion than of Lana. Lana is trying to pose with her fingers in a “V” below her mouth. Lana thinks that stands for victory. Kim said not when you hold it at your mouth! It’s carpet munching, Kim says. Lana recoils when she realizes what she was doing but also laughs. Lana laughs at herself a lot, she’s a good fit with this family.
Kim asks Lana how her most recent date went. Lana said, “first of all, I wanted to leave right away, he took out his teeth and then he wanted to kiss me. I bit him instead.” The looks on the faces of the Biermann family were priceless. Kroy is astonished and wants to know why she bit him. She said, in anger “because you’re not supposed to kiss me after you show me your teeth!” Everyone is bugging out and Kim says to Kroy “is this bitch for real?” Chuckles. Brielle suggests Lana pretend she’s her date for practice and Brielle says a lot of complimentary things. Lana complains to Kim “this is so sestistic”. That’s not a real word, but she meant too sexual. Kim said you need to be confident and there’s things you don’t do on a first date, like bite people, say the f word and do shots. Aside from the biting, I wonder how did Kim ever make it through the first date with Kroy?!
The family decorates the back porch for an intimate baby shower for Jen and her husband. Lana is very enthusiastic, she marches in with some of the decorations on her body. Sweetie begins to tease her and Kim told Sweetie to let her have her fun. There is an amazing, over the top cake. They play games and Kim has gifts for Jen. One of which, is a baby suitcase. It was not a Louis Vuitton, it was what a child’s suitcase should look like.
Lana has her hair and makeup done by Sweetie and Kim. This takes place in the kitchen too, of course! Sweetie is impressed with how Lana looked made up. Kroy explains his adversion to some women who are too made up they’re not the same person without it all. Obviously, he doesn’t feel that way about Kim.
I enjoy the between scenes on the show, with the security cameras. Kroy lifting his boy Kash to the basketball rim so he can make a basket. Lana dancing through rooms or doing martial arts moves, Jam cleaning and Kim floating about in her white robe.
Kim, Kroy and the makeover version of Lana head out in a sports car for happy hour at a Mexican food restaurant. Kim is going to help Lana find a man. Kroy mumbles, we can’t go on a date by ourselves, ever! Kim told Lana there’s no shots and no asking of penis size. Kroy brought along his spy kit and has a speaker to insert in Lana’s ear that will be wirelessly connected to a mic that Kim will have. The funniest thing was the mic was full sized with a table mount. They had it on their table in the restaurant.
Kroy and Kim sit at a table, and Lana is across the way at the bar. Lana orders a large Margarita. So do Kim and Kroy. Kim gives Lana advice (through the earpiece) of how to talk to the guy at the bar. She tells her to gracefully, spit out the gum, it makes her look sexually frustrated chomping on it. Lana is encouraged to talk to a man at the bar and she’s giggly. She’s trying to adjust to Kim talking in her ear and that is a portion of the giggling. She meets another guy and the giggles start again. Kroy spies a wedding band on this guy and Kim says “abort!” Kim continues to give advice. Kim tells her to go to the bathroom. Kim meets her in there and says she needs to pull herself together. Lana realizes that she’s drunk with her boss and can’t take care of KJ. Kim reminds her that she gave her off work for the night and it’s okay. Lana gets all mushy and picks up Kim off the ground in a bear hug saying “I love you!” If that surprised you, then think how surprised Kim was! And she did it a second time!
Back at the bar, Lana had a man who was flirting with her and she suggested they do shots. Kim and Kroy are saying “Oh no!” Of course, Lana broke rule number one and did shots. So it’s time to go! Kim is thankful she’s not single at 36. They called Brielle to pick them up since they had a few drinks too. Brielle arrives and Kroy wants to know why she brought the gold Honda? I think she did to ‘punish’ them for making her drive the gold Honda, she wants them to know how awful it is. Kroy is being a back seat driver, asking Brielle why she’s going the long way. Lana is in the front seat feeling very woozy. Kroy and Kim are kissing in the back seat. Lana is saying she’s going to throw up and starts to scream that she needs to now and the back passengers are saying “Not in the car! Out the window!” Thus it appears the screaming in the preview for the show was not a result of Brielle’s driving, but the three intoxicated riders.
Kim goes to the hospital to see her friend Jen after the baby is born and gets a little teary eyed seeing the baby. Jen feels like she was run over by a train and found an orphan on the way home. Kim talked her into the placenta smoothie ahead of time, because it helped her a lot. The smoothie is handed to Jen and she brags how good it tastes. Then asks if she has to drink it all, or are we going to do shots. Kim laughs, no we are not doing shots.
At the close of the episode there’s an excerpt of the bathroom scene with Kim and Lana at the restaurant. Kim reveals she was so focused on Lana, she left without putting on her wig! Why bless her heart. Hey, that’s whole lot of healthy looking hair with good color, why in the world tuck all that in a wig? I don’t get it!
Next week, pack up the wigs, the Biermann Bunch goes camping!
