S13E9 “American Girl Doll”
By Princess Pindy
I am splitting up my “The Roosevelts” watching tonight, watching the first hour at 8pm and then I will catch the 2nd hour at 11pm, because I am a giver. I really have no desire to watch Project Runway tonight, especially knowing that there is a high quality television show playing at the same time. At this point in the season they might as well just send Emily, Char, and Alexander home. The judges don’t like anything they do. I am proud of Emily for keeping it together thus far. I would be a puddle of tears if someone talked to me the way Nina and Zac talk to her. They are especially mean to her. I don’t think she is as bad as they make her to be, or not to be, that is the question. I also think that Tim wasted his “Tim Gunn Save” on Char because there is no way she is going to win with these judges. I like her work but I don’t see her winning. It is obvious that they think the world of Sean, Sandhya, Amanda, and Kini. Although I don’t think Kini is their actual favorite but his construction abilities keep him up there with the “cool kids”… How funny that I forgot all about Korina…hmmm, what do you think that means?
This week’s product placement is brought to you by “American Girl” books, dolls, clothing, and accessories. My daughter loved the books. Her favorite was Addy (… and Molly, and Kit, and Felicity, and…) From the time they were little I talked to my children about money and the cost of things we bought. I wanted them to be aware of “needs” vs. “wants”. So when it came to American Girl dolls she knew that it was not a “need” but a “want”. Somehow we got on the AG mailing list and would receive catalogues. So I would sit with her and we would look and she would pick out what she would buy “if she had a million dollars.” I just have to say, “What a racket!!” IPPHO
The designers are challenged with designing “stylish, age appropriate looks” for the American Girl dolls based on their story and history. The dolls are from different time periods and I would like to see them in updated looks, could be fun. The first guest judge is Heather Northrop from American Girl. The guest judge is Elizabeth Moss. The Google Machine tells me that she was Peggy Olsen in Mad Men, I didn’t watch so IDK. The only thing I personally would know her from is “The West Wing”, she was Zoey Bartlett. In other words, she is one of the many actresses that are around the same age that I have no clue of their name or what they have done. It’s not my fault they got rid of the studio system and the huge PR machines and these girls have to fend for themselves to get their names out there. And don’t get me started about “sex tapes”…let’s not go there!!!
So on to this week’s episode, there is no longer immunity for challenges which is the hot topic at the apartments along with laughing at Sandhya’s outfit from last week. That was just the guys. The designers meet Tim at the American Girl store. American Girl was started in 1986. Each designer is paired with a doll and a young girl who will model the look they come up with. “Beforever” is American Girl’s new line. They are making the “modern look” for the young girls, not the dolls. I didn’t know they had clothes for young girls but I shouldn’t be surprised. The girls tell the designers as much as they know about the doll’s story. American Girl is supplying fabric but they don’t have to use it. They have one day for this challenge.
Off to Mood to get fabric. I wonder if anyone will use the AG material. Back at the workroom they each have their AG doll and a mini mannequin. The designers talk about what they played with as kids. As they are eating they discuss if they have made children’s clothes or not. Most have not. Emily has a daughter and makes clothes for her. She thinks she could win this challenge. Oh Emily, I don’t think that is going to happen, but I haven’t seen what you are making… we shall see.
I won’t be able to keep track of these dolls, so I will just watch what happens, oops wrong network.
Sean’s doll is out of the 70s, Tim thinks his idea is adorable. But is it too “retro”? Tim tells him to remove the fringe from the jacket, so bossy. I think Kini is using AG fabric. Kini is stuck and doesn’t know what to do. Amanda’s doll is Addy and Tim is so happy that she escaped slavery. Alexander is also using AG fabric for his “Depression Era” doll. Tim is so moved by the AG dolls’ stories, they are very “real”. Tim thinks that Char’s look is “Cheap and Tawdry.” He is nervous, I think he really regrets using his save, just saying. Sandhya’s design looks awful again but I’m sure she will win, lol! It is so bad. Tim is trying to tell her how bad it is and he feels like he doesn’t do her a service and he doesn’t understand her designs and the judges keep loving her work. Join the Club, Tim!!! She insists it will be beautiful. So he says, “Carry on.” The Tim Gunn brush off!!!
Awwww, look, someone’s crying….(gravel, gravel) This week it is Sandhya. She thinks people don’t like her. I don’t think it is that as much as her crap keeps winning!! She just wants compassion, she thinks just because it is a completion no one should get hurt. She is barking up the wrong tree. Winners get no compassion, sorry babe, welcome to reality.
IPPHO: Korina; The model is better than the look. Sean; IDK, not impressed. Amanda; cute model sells it. Alexander. I don’t like it. Char; the dress is cute underneath all the fringe on the vest. Sandhya; another clown outfit, but better than her original design. Omg, the look on Tim’s face is priceless!!! Kini, great jacket and dress. Emily; yeah, she is probably going home. Alexander and Amanda are safe.
Sean; Zac says it isn’t “groovy”, needs to be more funky and the peace sign is wrong (it is a Mercedes Benz sign). Nina doesn’t mind the vest. Thinks he missed a opportunity. Heidi thinks it looks like a McCall’s pattern. Elizabeth didn’t hate it, wishes he used 70s colors. Korina; Hiedi thinks it is clever, Zac likes it, fun. Elizabeth likes it…wait till up close look. Nina likes it. Sandhya; Heidi thinks it is for a one year old. Onesie for a baby. Not age appropriate. Nina thinks it is the wrong challenge. Sandhya is dismissing all their comments. Circus flamingo. Not mature enough. Not great fit. Sandhya still likes it and all the designers are smiling. Kini; Heidi is in love with it. Channel for kids. Heather like it. Zac thinks it sensational. Elizabeth thinks it is cool and wants it in her size. Nina loves it, “Perfection.” Char; Elizabeth thinks it is fantastic. They love the fringe. The look on Sean face when they say they liked the fringe, he looks ill!!! Emily; Heidi is on the fence. Heather thinks it is frumpy. Nina thinks there is no joy. The colors make it look dark. Zac thinks it is “Oy vey.” Elizabeth is confused.
Top Three Char, Korina, Kini. Bottom Three: Sean, Emily, Sandhya.
It feels like Nina is trying to find reasons to keep Sandhya over Emily. Heidi does not agree.
Kini is the winner!!! YAY!! That is two in a row! Sean is safe. WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
Sandhya is OUT!!! WOWWWWW!!! AMAZING!!!!! About time!!!
