NJBev Meets NeNe Leakes on Broadway
NJBev headed to Broadway last week to watch NeNe Leakes in Cinderella. She splurged on 6th row center seats, full price, and was rewarded by a fantastic show and an equally fantastic experience meeting NeNe by the stage door.
Below are her photos and a short recap of her experience:
I just wanted to tell you that Nene was extraordinarily good in the play.
She was so good, that I forgot Nene was in the play within two minutes of the show. I started to get annoyed with myself because I was so into the play that I forgot that it was Nene and I wanted to get pictures.
She was so gracious, at the door she came out and spoke to every single child that was there. This is not the woman I know from the show.
She signed everybody’s program. I never saw so many people at a theater door in my life.
I was about 5’8″ tall with my heels on. I was astounded at her graciousness. I never expected her to be so kind. The way she was with the little children and talking to them and saying things about her character in the play, I will forever be impressed.
My daughter, was so happy, throughout the entire event. Even before anybody came on the stage my daughter at 22 years old kept saying “I’m so happy, I’m so happy”
The Celebrity Apprentice
“Nobody Out Thinks Donald Trump” S7/E2
Remember, the premiere episode:
The task was a fundraising task which involved creating and selling 2 types of celebrity pies made by each team. Geraldo steamrolled over the men’s team to name them “Vortex” – Which to me, is just a swirling bunch of wind – But he also lead them to victory beating the women’s team “Infinity” by securing almost just almost twice as much in donations. Keisha was fired because she didn’t call Bill Cosby to ask for a donation. Brandi was asked about her Boardroom comment about Kate being “lazy” – and she explained that on the day of the task that Kate just stood around and talked to people. Geraldo realizes that people will do or say anything to get a leg up on each other. He realizes that it’s in people’s vested interest “to whittle away at Geraldo” but that it’s not easy to “whittling away at Mount Rushmore is not so easy.”
The teams must create rival commercials for Neat, a technology company that solves paper and digital clutter.
George H. Ross (Just had his 87th birthday on Tuesday, January 6th – He is so my favorite…lol)
Donald Trump, Jr.
Kevin immediately steps up as Project Manager (PM) for the men’s team because he already knows about the product. Kevin creates a timeline so people know what they’re supposed to be doing and when they’re supposed to be doing it.
They get into vans to travel to where they will be executing this task. Geraldo’s feelings are hurt because he wasn’t allowed on the cool kid’s van. He remarks, “The kids are getting one over on Dad.” During a planning phone call between vans, Geraldo becomes absolutely insufferable with his, “Neat – Sweet” proposed motto – and he repeats it like 294 times in 8 seconds. Kevin recognizes that, “Neat – Sweet” says absolutely nothing about the product. Sig could NOT help but laugh at Geraldo and wasn’t sure if he was being serious or if he was just trying to get under Kevin’s skin.
When the representatives from “Neat” came in – Geraldo was the rudest, most insufferable ass that you have ever seen. He continued talking on his cell phone very loudly and purposefully walked about 2 feet around the table where everyone else was talking and planning. Even when Kevin banished him to the other side of a large room, Geraldo kept talking loudly. It was horrible… To me, he was clearly trying to undermine the PM. He should be fired for that… These are executives, you idiot.
Kevin assigns Lorenzo as the director, Ian as the producer, Gilbert as the focal point of the commercial, and Geraldo as the writer.
Meanwhile, the women’s team is having problems even identifying a PM. Nobody feels confident about a technology challenge. In the end, Kate reluctantly volunteers even though technology is a weakness for her. I think it’s a huge mistake. But again, no one else is stepping up for the task. Why aren’t they in trouble for this? Kenya isn’t around for the 1st day of the 2 day task… but that doesn’t come up again… It’s weird.
It is quickly clear to the women that their PM doesn’t know squat about technology. It’s tough for Kate to be an effective PM since she is technologically disadvantaged. Leeza steps up and becomes the de facto PM. They quickly hone in on the concept of “organizing your digital life.” Shawn has an idea for the commercial and they all just run with it.
While everyone else was eating lunch – Brandi and Leeza hash out how they’re going to execute the task. They observe their PM is busy chatting and having coffee. This pisses them off but they want to win the task. Kate keeps asking Brandi for her opinion before she does things – and it just starts getting to Brandi. She wants her PM to make her own decisions. Kate thinks that Brandi is panicking unnecessarily and that she should calm down. Kate doesn’t think things get accomplished well when you panic or become dramatic.
Execution of Task #1
Women’s Team – “Infinity: “The Neatologist Saves the Day” – The Neat executives are already smiling before they even see the commercial probably because they incorporated Neat’s own organizational jargon into the title of the commercial. Leeza introduces the commercial. She really is a pretty awesome spokesperson.
The men feel very confident with their commercial. They receive a lot of good feedback from Neat executives. Kevin, as PM, was the one who made the spiel. The guys seemed to capture both a personal and corporate application of the services. I really liked how they had a whole bunch of different people in the commercial – that was a real surprise because I didn’t see that when they were filming. I only saw Gilbert freaking out about a mass of paperwork at his desk…lol.
Kevin is asked if Gilbert should be be fired. He says, “Absolutely not – Every time he’s asked to do something – he does it with all his heart.” Kevin said everyone on the team was pulling their weight.
Kate is asked if they won the challenge. She responds, “We met all of the criteria.” Trump presses her, “Did you win?” Kate finally says, “Yes.” Trump isn’t convinced that Kate thinks they won. He asks Kate who should be fired if they lose. Kate tells him she thinks that Brandi should be fired because she was a distraction at times. Kate explains that Brandi felt pressured and that she panicked which was a distraction.
Brandi explained that she panicked for the entire team – but that she thinks it was a good thing. Trump is not convinced people can panic in a positive way.
The executive’s feedback on the women’s commercial: They liked the commercial because it focused on where Neat was going and not just on where they’ve been which is very important. But they didn’t like that there were only 2 women in the commercial which really limited who the commercial was targeting. There was no diversity.
The executive’s feedback on the men’s commercial: The use of Gilbert was brilliant – He portrayed the audience. They liked that the men used more of the team (and some extras) – And they thought the commercial was fresh and engaging. But they didn’t think the commercial went far enough in featuring the neat cloud service. Also, the logo wasn’t used and they thought that was a huge negative.
Trump announces that the executives really liked both commercials a lot – but the women won! $40 to Camp Barnabas…
The guys are asked who should be fired. Ian says that Geraldo should be fired because he slowed down the process. Terrell says the PM should be fired. Johnny doesn’t know.
Keven decides to bring Ian and Geraldo into the Boardroom for the firing squad. Trump asks why he’s bringing Ian back? Kevin honestly responds, “Because I feel like we’re a unified front.” Clearly, it’s because he wants to force Trump to fire Geraldo.
Kevin says that Geraldo was a detriment to the task – that he just wouldn’t let things go – and tht he tried to steamroll. Geraldo said that once the script was done that he was shut out of the task. He had nothing to do with shooting the commercial or with post production. Ummm… You can’t be involved in everything, you gooberhead.
Geraldo was also called, “A momentum killer.” Trump wanted Kevin to bring in the Director (Lorenzo). Trump poses the question to Kevin about whether Ian should be fired over Kevin. Kevin responds, “Yes.”
Geraldo tried to take credit for using Gilbert in the commercial and Ian quickly corrects him that it was already decided in the vans before they ever talked to Geraldo’s van. Trump wants Ian to say that Trump should fire Kevin because he brought him into the Boardroom. Really? Shouldn’t the guy who tried to sabotage and continuously undermine the PM be fired? Ian sticks to Geraldo because he thinks the firing should be based on merit. It really looks like Ian’s days are numbered.
And then the bomb drops. Trump says, “Kevin tried to outthink me and no one outthinks me.” Trump continues, “Kevin, you’re fired.” Wow… are you freaking kidding me? Trump’s ego just caused Kevin’s 4.3 million Twitter followers’ TVs to simultaneously click off. We’ll have to watch the ratings for next week. I’m shocked. What a short-sighted move – And in the exact age demographic that is being targeted by advertisers. Hilarious.
The receptionist just looks at Kevin as he leaves – Wishing she had asked for his autograph on his poster hanging above her bed.
The teams must create a Luvo bistro – They will put on an entertaining and informative product tasting that will highlight Luvo’s brand and their products. The presentation will focus around an original branded theme, slogan and tasting menu based on an existing array of Luvo food products. They will be judged on brand messaging and overall presentation, and will serve a menu of Luvo products to diners. The winning PM gets $50,000 for their charity.
Lorenzo encourages Terrell to take the PM role and he accepts. The men’s planning process goes pretty well. The taste testing of the products also goes pretty smoothly. Terrell and Geraldo script the product slogan and everyone writes their own part of the presentation. The only problem is that Gilbert likes to improvise and isn’t really great at writing things down and keeping to a script.
Vivica quickly steps up for the woman’s team. She really wants to focus on staying organized throughout the task. They seem to quickly identify a plan of action that they will present the product in pairs and in costume. Shawn and Kate go to buy props while the others stay and taste the products. Shawn and Kate head back to the testing kitchen after shopping for over 6 ½ hours and of course they’re criticized for it.
Execution of Task #2
The men seem to be doing a good job during their presentation of the products. Their brand messaging seems to be, “Eat lean, live long… Luvo for a delicious life.” The guys really thought everything was going great… that is until Gilbert’s turn comes… lol.
Gilbert steps up and introduces his product, “And now we’re presenting Luvo’s Strawberry Frozen Yogurt and I assure you – It tastes fattening – but it’s not!” Okay, the timing on the joke seemed to be off – and Gilbert unfortunately continues, “Now, I have 2 children – and I look at them every day as a miracle… The miracle is that a woman had sex with me twice – So in your face!” Geraldo wishes he had one of those hug hooks they used to have to shoo someone offstage during the Vaudeville era. Gilbert thinks he did great – and if he got one laugh out of THAT crowd then considers himself to be successful. The executives are so not amused by Gilbert.
For the women, the beginning of the presentation is going well. Everyone is in costume… They’re really depicting the slogan well – “Love yourself one bite at a time.” However, the product tasting part of the program is not going well for the women.
They only have 2 microwaves to warm up all the food and things are going very slowly. Shawn seems to be getting the blame for not starting the warming up process earlier. Vivica goes back out and is comic relief for the crowd while they wait. I really believe this is a PM issue (Not to be confused with a PMS issue which will come up later… You’ll see…lol). It’s a timeline issue to me – You have to know the order of the products that you’re presenting and take into account the amount of preparation time required for each product. How is that any worker bee’s responsibility?
After presenting various scenarios where Luvo’s products could be especially useful, the women finish strong with Brandi saying, “Be good to yourself… and love yourself… One bite at a time.” The whole team repeats it – and it really drives home their motto. And then Vivica leads a repeating a cheerleading chant that involves audience … “Love yourself… Love Luvo… Love Yourself… Love Luvo!” Boy, I think that just sealed the deal for them! Wow…lol.
The Donald and his red tie sits down and immediately asks Terrell if he won the task. Terrell, of course, thinks he did. Why? He felt they met the criteria of brand messaging and because they did a great job overall in their presentation. Trump then specifically asks if Gilbert did a good job. Terrell physically starts coughing and says they never know what to expect from Gilbert but he’s been their entertainment for a number of tasks (Umm… you’ve only had 3 so far…lol) and that Gilbert is Gilbert. Wow – Now that’s a resounding vote of confidence, right? Lol.
Captain Foreshadowing Trump asks Vivica if she would like Geraldo to replace one of the players on their team and Vivica surprisingly says she that would replace Shawn. Vivica really doesn’t think that Shawn wants to be here. Whoa… Where in the hell did that come from? Vivica asserts that Shawn checked out on her for this task. Later it comes out that she said that basically because Shawn had acknowledged to her that she had spaced out at one point for a couple of moments. Puhleeze.
Vivica actually, in Donald Trump’s Boardroom says of Shawn, “She had a monthly problem that was bothering her and she wasn’t herself.” Okay…Vivica TOTALLY just broke girl code for sure… Yeah, we saw Jamie complain a little – but I don’t think we really saw her not participating, did we? Heck she ran around for over 6 ½ hours alone with Kate getting props and costumes – I personally think she deserves an award for not smacking Kate upside the head, no?
Kate defends Shawn but Kenya throws Shawn under the bus. Vivica says that Shawn had no energy and that she was quiet the entire time. See, I hate this. I think quiet people are often undervalued and unappreciated. Just because someone is quiet doesn’t mean they don’t have something significant to say – And often people are too busy flapping their jaws and flexing their ginormous egos to stop to listen to their perspectives. Oh, and by the way, just because someone is quiet it doesn’t mean they’re moody or mad, as it’s sometimes misinterpreted. (Sorry… took a lil tangent there…lol – I love quiet people…and we loud mouths have got to learn to shut the heck up…lol…) Trump seems embarrassed that we’re talking about periods in the Boardroom. I’m embarrassed, too.
Trump asks Kenya if Shawn had a right to check out and quickly Kenya says, “No, we’re women – We rule the world… There is no reason for us to ever have a moment in time where we’re weaker than any other period of time. No pun intended.” [Insert gratuitous, prewritten and rehearsed eye roll here.] Jamie then talks about how rude Kenya is and Kenya totally interrupts her… But moments later, when Jamie tries to say something while Kenya is talking – Kenya calls her rude. Lol…
Eric Trump reports what the Luvo executives thought about the women’s team presentation… The positives: They did a great job embracing the Luvo message. They thought Leeza was an unbelievable spokesperson and that she really knocked it out of the park (OoooooooOOo no positives about Vivica? Wow…) The negatives: They thought the execution on the serving of the items was off. Some of the items didn’t come out on time and some of them were cold when they did come out. They also wish the team had focused more attention on actual product detail – for example, on nutrition details, product packaging, etc. They thought that was a very big miss.
Ivanka reveals what the Luvo executives thought about the men’s team… The positives: They thought your professional service was incredible. They loved the fact that you took it slow. You allowed people to enjoy the food and to taste the food and that they didn’t feel rushed. They also loved that you represented yourselves and that you tied your own personalities in with the Luvo brand. The negatives – The slogan was hard for Luvo, as brand, to defend – as ultimately these are hard claims to prove and substantiate. That you’ll, “Eat lean and live long” Also, they felt that you had to emphasize a healthy lifestyle ultimately and it’s not just about losing weight. Secondly, they thought that Gilbert’s humor wasn’t necessarily appropriate for a family brand.
Trump announces the women’s team won the task!
The women are back in the suite celebrating their win. Shawn tells Vivica directly that she loves her… She stood behind her… She thought she was a wonderful PM… She’s way entitled to her opinion to say that Shawn was the weakest link… BUT how dare you she call Shawn out in the Boardroom as to why? ooOOooo Shawn is pissed off… lol. Vivica is sorry that she hurt Shawn’s feelings – Shawn instantly corrects Vivica that she didn’t hurt her feelings but that what Vivica did was trashy. I totally agree – It’s girl code – I don’t care if you’re in a freakin’ competition. Who wants Trump to be talking about menstrual cycles? I mean, you know, unless it’s because Trump wants to his perpetual and alleged “irritable male syndrome” to be in sync. Sorry, we were just talking in one of the FB groups about how men have their own “cycles” and versions of PMS… lol.
Back in the Boardroom, Gilbert is asked if he thinks he should be blamed for the loss. Gilbert knows that in the past he has gotten in trouble for his humor – but that still, no one has died from an off-color joke. (but they may get fired…lol)… Gilbert thinks that it’s more important to get a laugh than anything in the world. Well, I’m guessing if anyone actually HAD laughed at Gilbert’s jokes during the presentation – they wouldn’t be there right now…lol.
Ian thinks the PM did a good job. Geraldo is asked what he thinks is worse… getting the slogan wrong or telling an off-color joke. Geraldo doesn’t want to respond and that Trump should ask someone other than he, Terrell or Gilbert since the answer could influence the firing decision one way or another.
Terrell quite predictably brings Gilbert and Geraldo in front of the firing squad Boardroom.
After Trump confirms that Terrell really wants to be here, he asks Geraldo if he wants to stay. Geraldo launches into what seems to be a 45 minute soliloquy about having been a survivor 12 times in Afghanistan and Somalia and blahditty blah blah blah and finally confirms that he’d love to stay.
However, when Trump asks Gilbert, he changes the question to, “Would you want to go home?” That’s kind of interesting, no? He asked everyone else if they wanted to stay… Gilbert, because he’s a comic and not a fighter, as expected answers very ambiguously when he says, “Yeah, I don’t know – I look upon it as a game and I play to win…” which of course, really doesn’t answer Trump’s question. Talk ensues about being inappropriate and how many people have made millions of dollars by being inappropriate. Trump acknowledges that he himself has been inappropriate at times and does not want to fire Gilbert just for being inappropriate.
Trump tells Gilbert that he’s done a very good job. He asks again, “Would you want to go home?” Gilbert says that he’d like to stay – but that if he has to go, he has to go. Rut roh. Trump says that a lot of people are going to like Gilbert now even more than they did before after seeing him on this show. The bottom line is that the executives didn’t like what Gilbert did – but that Trump thinks Gilbert is terrific. “Gilbert you’re fired.”
Gilbert’s parting comments were that he’s heard the words, “Gilbert, you’re fired” several times in his career. He muses, “I had to be fired [just] to be on the Today Show – I don’t know if it’s worth it – But it’s press.”
Note: I thought it was hilarious that the receptionist, who is usually very straight faced, actually smiled this time. Fortunately, I was able to capture a screen shot of it! lol…
Amusing Stuff that Happened
While the women are trying to get their product out to the audience, Kenya grabs a tray right out of Jamie’s hand because she says that Jamie wasn’t dressed appropriately (She had her workout outfit on from their presentation segment)… In her talking head, Jamie laughingly says that she’s not like this that but she almost could have punched Kenya right in the face (Welcome to my world every single time I watch Real Housewives of Atlanta…lol)… When Jamie tells Kenya to her face, “Don’t be so frickin’ rude” – The towering Miss America…oops, sorry… Miss USA (never, ever make THAT mistake – as we’ve learned…lol) and her oversized crown actually physically puts her hand on Jamie’s shoulder – who is about 8 feet shorter than her. But you know what? My money is on the snowboarder if they ever get into a fight. Kenya said she was sorry. Jamie says that her apology doesn’t mean anything and that she should say it with a little passion. Have I mentioned that I love Jamie?
Jamie continues, “Who the hell raised you?” In Jamie’s talking head she wonders what makes Kenya thinks that she is this woman who can treat people so terribly. And then unfortunately, she also says of Kenya, “Haven’t you ever seen, like Oprah? Have a little fricken respect.” I think that’s a wonky comment made by a white woman to a black woman that can really be taken in a bad way for Jamie. Perhaps I’m just being too racially sensitive – but it just hit me wrong.
“If she’s not on TV yelling at her kids, what is she going to do?” Brandi talking about Kate not being a business woman and squirming out of calling her “lazy” in the Boardroom.
“If we go a day without food we’ll be fine – Have a lollipop and get to fuckin’ work.” Brandi says this as she complains about everyone else sitting around and having lunch while she and Leeza are planning how to execute their task.
“Don’t default to drama!” Kate says because she thinks Brandi is panicking about the task. .
“Obviously, Kevin, Lorenzo and Ian have conspired against me – but if you push me, I’ll push you back.” Geraldo complaining about not being chosen to be the voice over for the commercial.
Well, that’s it for this week – It looks like they’re doing back-to-back episodes from here on out. Thanks for reading and until next time… Happy trails!
